  1. Thats nothing back in May i went from a hot and sunny 31c to a cold and snowy 0c just 2 days later!
  2. Most of the new snow across Canada and the USA will vanish next week as a warm plume from the south floods the priaries for at least a week or so. Temps could be 10-12c above normal.
  3. expect to see some big losses in western canada over the next week
  4. yes been a dreary -7c sun beginning to break through warming up nicely through to the weekend maybe up to +7c by saturday
  5. Had my first ice day of the season..temp never got above -4c today..looking at -12c overnight
  6. i think grey is a light covering of snow these could easily temporarily disappear or are the first fall of the season
  7. Funny thing here in Edmonton is they dont bet on white xmas because they are always white..they bet on a white/green halloween!
  8. There has been some talk this side of the pond that western canada will be snowier than average this winter but not necessarily colder...some say colder than normal some say milder?..on the whole Canada is expected to be colder and snowier than last winter..which isnt difficult as it was mild and relatively snowless last winter
  9. i think this an old article i remember reading this here in Canada on the farmers almanac site back in August..dont know how relevant it is now 2 months on?
  10. Having my first proper snowfall of the season today..currently snowing with 2-3 inch covering temp -2c
  11. expect to see some big gains across western canada early next week..forecast snow here in edmonton sunday until mid next week and remaining cold therafter
  12. nice infill of ice around northern russia..make up for the lack of movement on the canadain side of the artic.
  13. i would agree 1993/94 wasnt particularly cold nor particularly dry either.
  14. i was living in Chelmsford at the time and i slept through the whole thing probably been out on the lash the night before as think it happened mid-week?
  15. Ah the joys of Uni life..or polytechnic in my case..i left in 1991 (1987-91).. i only ever remember havin one 9 am start and that was on a monday..wednesday was a free day because i played for the 1st team at football in the university leagues. Heres a tip if you want that was given to me before i started and was true for me...the people you meet in your first week are the people you spend the next four years trying to avoid!..lol Also if your next four years are anything like mine they will be probably some of the best times of your life..mind you i did spend a lot more time in the bar and on the football pitch than i did in lectures. You make some great lifelong friends and meet some interesting people. Hope you have as much fun as i did..good luck!
  16. some snowfall overnight here in alberta Canada...heavy falls in the foothills of the rockies and a few flurries in around jasper when i was on site for a meeting...will mostly disapear again as it warms up again through to middle of next week
  17. there is a huge difference between 20th October and 25th November... will be nothing like Nov 25th 2005
  18. I dont see why somebody who predicts an average or mild winter is being negative?..and why that forecast is pulled apart as being flawed..yet if the same forecast predicts cold and snow everybody jumps up and down and says take a look at this as being the best thing since sliced bread. Me thinks a winter similar too those of the late nineties..1998-2000 is on the cards.
  19. after 20 pints of lager maybe..as for the rest welcome to the real world ...no one is indispensible
  20. has been very warm here in Edmonton too..hit 26c three days in a row thurs, fri & sat..and reached a muggy 24c today..cooling off for tomorrow be lucky to reach 12c but still nice and sunny
  21. expect snow cover to remain pretty static across Canada in the next week to 10 days..jet running across the top with warm air entrenched across the west and the prairies
  22. interesting read..but how do you decide what falls into the different categories?... i mean the great south west blizzard of 19-21st Feb 1978 is only a four yet it is by far in a way the biggest snowfall i have ever seen and probably one of the worst blizzards to hit anywhere in the UK during the 20th Century...but 12-14th Feb the same year is a five??
  23. certainly a wide spread snow event in the south and west even at low levels there were some heavy falls.
