  1. here the first 20c/25c are close together ..on average the first 20c is around 20-25th April first 25c is 1-5th May.
  2. Cold finally loosens its grip today as it gets above freezing..this after 2 weeks of -20s and -30s and lots of snow.
  3. John S2 i dont think 1984 is underrated though..very warm and relatively thundery summer esp down south..counting all the summers after 1976 and before 2003 you would be hard pushed not to find 1984 in the top 5 IMO
  4. Midlands Ice Age as of 2023 China alone accounts for 30% of global emissions..the UK accounts for 0.79%..our citizens are being beaten round the head with a big stick and being financially punished for something that is totally out of our control..soon enough more and more people will start to push back when they realize all their sacrifices and all the financial penalties have resulted in nothing as emissions keep on increasing at least until 2030 and probably way beyond as China and India etc. just do their own thing ..honestly IMO the Chinese dont give a sheet about climate change they are more concerned with global dominance by the end of the century.
  5. Weather-history Italia '90 makes this summer special ..probably why a lot of people remember this as being a good summer.
  6. In Absence of True Seasons i would be happy with a repeat of spring 2023 here ..May 2023 was beautifully warm sunny and dry and was the warmest month of the year for daytime highs got above 31c on 3 of the first 4 days of the month..April was also relatively warm and sunny
  7. -36c this morning -43c with the wind-chill..not to worry though +12c by Saturday
  8. waiting for the geese to return and the be-boo bird then i know spring has arrived.
  9. SunnyG obviously its not -30c all the time in winter..in fact -30c is about as common as +30c in summer..happens on average 6-8 times a year
  10. September is usually good for these in Edmonton ..most recent example i could find in the last 10 years only was Sept 7, 2017 went from 1.2c in the morning to 32.6c in the afternoon range of 31.4c
  11. TwisterGirl81 not really i spent all of my life apart from the last 10 years or so living in Chelmsford and Exeter so i know its a different kind of cold.
  12. ANYWEATHER coldest March temp i have experienced in Edmonton was -42c in 2011 TwisterGirl81 Spring is very short as winter tends to hang on into April and summer kicks in Mid May..summers are great often sunny and dry with no humidity temps often 22-30c from Mid May to Mid August thereafter it tends to start to cool off.
  13. Metwatch you couldn't get a more classic El Nino North American pressure anomaly for winter if you tried
  14. -30c here this morning after another weekend of heavy snow
  15. probably 1986...it was a cold year in general...obviously a very cold February was then followed by a very cold and wet April..summer was garbage outside of June...1985 was another cold winter followed by a garbage summer ..outside of the disgustingly wet and cool July 1988 wasn't too bad..June was ok as was August in my neck of the woods...1987 i struggle with because i dont remember it being too bad but stats say otherwise!
  16. 1983 never gets the love it deserves ..stonking July.. August wasn't bad either ..2005 had a very tidy June ..1982 was a very thundery summer
  17. markyo never wish your life away..you are a long time dead
  18. WYorksWeather never said they do ..its just an oddity that i live in the only area on the planet that has had a succession of colder years
  19. Don im no ENSO expert but even to me it was always going to be a basin wide strong event..think it was just wishful thinking by some
  20. damianslaw Every Strong or super strong El Nino in the past has resulted in a Mild snowless winter with the exception of 1983 which had an exceptionally mild January followed by a cold snowy February..so was always perplexed by the notion of an El Nino pattern favouring a cold winter in lots of the winter forecast for 2023-24
  21. In Absence of True Seasons sums up my winter
  22. danm look at the sheet i have to put up with ..no sign of spring here
  23. Don the scale is in very small increments thats why.
  24. WYorksWeather except in the prairie provinces particularly Alberta where i live where there have been a succession of colder than average years ..2023 should buck that trend though
