  1. even so a damp 0c ..doesn't not equate to a dry -40c ..not even close
  2. it really doesn't get much colder than this in my location ...-46c tomorrow night
  3. looks like it will be short lived cold..models showing a return to the El nino pattern we had in Nov and Dec by early next week with it possibly getting colder at the end of the month again

  5. my school never closed in the good old days..let alone 3 weeks ..sometimes we got sent home early if it was snowing heavily ..more for the benefit of teachers than anything else.
  6. a still sunny winters day at 0c is akin to a still summers day at 22c ..good times
  7. got a little bit more snow than forecast yesterday and overnight 25cm in my location..temps on the decline further today as it continues to fall through the day from -21c now to -25c by hometime and then -40c over the weekend..a few -45c have popped up in the forecast for rural locations outside the city.
  8. my snow free paradise is about to end ..just started snowing with 15-20cm forecast by tomorrow morning..then temps plunge close to -40c by the weekend

  11. dont think 2018-19 was classed as an El Nino as there was never a 3 month period that met the threshold to be classed as one
  12. this is what i wear when it goes below -30c
  13. i doubt it ..i think -46c is about a cold as it gets and was pretty exceptional..the record is from the late 1880s when Edmonton was just a trading post for the fur trade..now its a 1.2million City so with global warming and the Urban heat island effect anything below -40c is rare now.
  14. Highs in the -20s coming as bitter Arctic air freezes Western Canada - The Weather Network WWW.THEWEATHERNETWORK.COM A bitter chill will soon spill over the western half of Canada as highs will struggle to get out of the -20s for many communities looks like we are getting it instead..was hoping it dropped in on your part of the world instead of mine
  15. yep and usually after 10 mins its gets a little too warm..but after an hour or so you start to feel the cold again mainly on my hands.
  16. managed to fire up this beauty this morning after an unexpected snowfall yesterday evening and overnight ..looks like could be worthwhile investment as it is forecast to get severely cold after the weekend with more snow
  17. tshirt.. big jumper..thermal winter puffer coat ..2 pairs winter gloves..snow pants..balaclava...fur lined hat...ordinary socks and bog standard trainers
  18. i have been out for my morning walk which last 1.5 hrs when it was -46c and a windchill of -53c..not a problem if you are dressed accordingly
  19. Just ordered myself a snow blower as a treat..cant stomach another round of snow shoveling
  20. i think the maximum gain and loss here is around the equinox of March and Sept when we gain or lose 6 minutes daily for about 3 weeks.
