Yes agreed!...I had a quiet Xmas just a few drinks and TV with just my GF, sister and aunt until the latter trumped after lunch - can I say that was a Xmas 'event'?
that sounds more like an 'eruption'!

An 'event' - I suppose it is considering how poor January's have become, Kent looks to be doing best but very small pickings. Actually got precipitation that looks like snow now rather than masquerading as graupel or hail.
I think 'event' must be one of the most overused words in the English language. Especially on here!

This is the first winter snowfall I've seen since February 2021; all the others being in spring.

Proper flakes now, coming off the North Sea. Time to go 'shopping'!

And, to think they all thought I was mad, what with my obsession with snow!

Really!?!...won't live long in my memory, maybe an event for January as they've been so useless since 2013.
I think I'll stick with 'flurry'!

What’s this “real weather” you speak of? Haven’t even looked out the window in weeks.
The actual weather. . . It's rained but it hasn't snowed. Digital/virtual weather is not the same as the real thing?

Meant to be flying out of Gatwick on 18th!Hopefully the snow will hold off till after then.Torn really as I love snow but equally been looking forward to this getaway for 6 months.Would be Sod’s Law if snow ruined getting away as we know it only takes about an inch of snow to screw the airports upTbh think latest GFS May be an outlier but let’s see.Either way I think period of 15th-20th will be most interesting period of winter so far in terms of snowGot my optimistic hat back on again.
Aye, I did that in the early 1990s -- the snow melted the day we came back. But, after 30C in Tenerife, Glenurquhart was effing cold!

Move back up to the Highlands. Its going to be toasty up there from next week I hear.
A balmy -2C here now and the skies have cleared after a mostly cloudy and raw day.Believe me, I think about it all the time!

Currently 1.2 degrees outside and the cold 850s will be moving in overnight and tomorrow. My current thinking is SE London,NW Kent and E Surrey may well get 1-2cms tomorrow but other parts of Sussex,Surrey and maybe Essex could well get a light covering. As ever with these type of situations it will be a Nowcast sort of situation but good luck to everyone in this thread who want snow, and if you get any send in the pictures.I read earlier that some of our Northern friends have made some unkind comments re possible snow in the SE-Never understood that personally as when there is a chance of snow anywhere in the U.K. I just hope everyone gets in the actionEach to their own I suppose.
4C still here, allegedly. But, anyway, epicness (almost certainly not a word) will soon be upon us: the oracles have spoken!

I’m sure it will be all over the press tomorrow Pete I can imagine the headlines ,army called out to make a snowball
Well, I spent 20+ years living in the Scottish Highlands: millions of trees blown down, nary a mention; power out for ten days, nary a mention. . . but, an icicle spotted in London, full-on panic!

I just don't get this.. -8 has served me well as 0 at ground baseline..-10 and below is definitely 0
I think it depends on (in part, at least) how far you are away from the sea: I was in Inverness in January 2010 and had sleety rain, and it's the same here; uppers of -10C are almost always okay. Sometimes, however, depending on the air source (and dps and such) -4C will do. . . asking John Holmes is never a bad idea.

For some reason, your post reminded me of the day I got my very first pair of 'Harry Potters'. But the polar low of February 12th 1969 was something else!
