  3. I still cant believe the current spell in Western Ireland with tropical nights going on.. Valentia in west Kerry had a temperature of 25oc at 4am on Tues morning and 24 degrees till 6am and a slight shift on wind I'm sure scuppered our national record minimum temperature and this is September.. Today its so July and wonderful weather..Wish it would go on.. Possible national record high temperature for Ireland today..We wait.. loving it..
  4. Sardinia in the firing line now.. Anyone got webcams
  5. I know its sounds weird but I believe if you put 6 inch nails in the ground around the roots it will turn them blue.. Something to do with the iron in the soil
  6. This was a remarkable month in Ireland after the dullest July on record .In early August parts of Kerry recorded 204.4mm of rain in 24 hrs of what was an exceptionally wet month and coldest on record 13.4 I believe. We also had the pleasure of tropical storm Charlie which caused widespread flooding in the east on the 26th with over 200mm in 24hrs in Wicklow . I was 15 years old at the time and I just remember that month being rotten and cold.Nothing like what we are moaning about now. I would have given anything like the weather now just to get out on my bike.. Twas bad back then and as you say, will we ever see the like again.
  7. WOW 55mm overnight in dublin currently 10 degrees ,northeast gales picking up. This is absolutely shocking and our wettest August day I think since hurricane Charley .This last 5 weeks i hope I never ever see the likes in any month let alone high summer
  8. What a poxy end to a dreadful month .Very dark and dismal grim rain and a wonderful 15 degrees.. July 2023 R I P..
  9. Can I just say that I love the fact we can have a topic like this.. So my contribution to this is that in August 1986 Whilst camping in my parents garden at the age of 16 I saw what was certainly an object that was similar to the shape of a submarine about 15ft long and 3ft deep suspended about 9 feet above the back wall .It was as Luminous as lightning ,,I had literally walked outside the back door and my brother was just behind, I froze for a second ,watched it hover and then it just went vertically at rapid speed up into the sky and disappeared .. I saw something that wasn\t natural and my brother just missed it..It will live with me forever.
  10. forgot to mention an incredible amount of mushrooms too
  11. I have noticed more moths indeed as I work as a landscape gardener and its actually quite amazing this summer the amount of small butterflies and moths I have observed this year
  12. Absolute dreadful weather .The carnival in howth suffered badly and your right in saying so in my opinion too these last 2 weekends are as bad Ive seen in July and I remember the 80s
  13. we just had 16.6mm west of Dublin in last hour ..Bergen it is at the moment
  14. That 's exactly what I said in my weekly report weather diary
  15. That's exactly what must of happened in the famous Tunbridge wells hail storm in the 50s .Incredible ice flow down slope..
  16. The 1936 July / August heatwave also in the USA is unprecedented of which many records still stand today. The town of steele North Dakota recorded 49.4 degrees on July 6th along with Alton in Kansas also 49.4 degrees which are still the hottest temps recorded in the contiguous USA outside of the desserts , Bismarck exceeded 38 degrees from the 5th to the 12th with 3 of those days reaching 44 degrees .Altu in Oklahoma averaged a max of 43.2 for the month of August and Ozark in Arkansas topped 38 degrees for 20 days in a row during the month. Towns in Texas were over 38 degrees from July 12th till Aug 27th.Even Wisconsin had temps over 45 degrees among many days over 40 .Many states suffered and night minima of 33 degrees must of been harsh when air conditioning was non existent with giant ice cubes placed in front of fans and people sleeping outside. Nothing like it has come close and that's how people coped. The media would be in a frenzy now but this was 87 years ago.
  17. Yes it was laughable when the main bbc news report yesterday on the heat in Spain .The reporter finished his report saying the south of Spain was becoming an extension of the Sahara desert a MAN told me..(WHAT MAN).. Reliable or what..
