  1. Radar image looks incredibly impressive in the south east. EDIT - Sorry, not sure what happened to the map underneath!
  2. Hope so buddy. Fingers crossed. Nice to see you again too. Sorry I haven't been around much. I've been visiting the site every single day but I've just had such a really bad season I didn't want to depress everyone with my ranting.
  3. After a thouroughly miserable storm season where I've manged to miss every single main event with me summing up my action so far as 8 barely audible cloud farts, one flash of sheet lightning and one flash of ball lightning (the highlight for me - shows how bad the rest of it's been) I just got a small storm an hour ago. The bulk of it missed me (no surprise there) but I did see my first cg strike of the year from the cell that tracked parallel to my west from south to north. Nice visible rain core on the northern leading edge. Didn't see any other strikes but had quite a few quiet rumbles.? Really hoping for some proper, full blown elevated stuff tonight. This seasons been the absolute worst for me, even worse than 2016.. Hoping the curse has been lifted and that we get some nice storms as a reward for suffering these unbearable temperatures all week. Can't wait for cooler weather now. Good luck for this evening everyone.
  4. I feel your pain friend. I think the thing with storms (particularly in this country) is that they're so difficult to predict, although there has definitely been a steady decline in both storms and rain around here these past 10 years.
  5. Anyone else feeling particularly storm starved? The season looked to be off to a good start at the beginning of spring with some cb spotting days and a couple of rumbles but since then absolutely nothing for the past two months here. For the past four days theres been a potential threat of heavy showers/storms for my area and although I generally take storm threats with a pinch of salt we haven't had even so much as a drop, nada. Even when there has been partially active cb's floating around they've all passed either side of me (I've literally sat there and watched them split apart on radar). Initially I thought after a so so year last year the early signs were pointing towards a better 2019, but we're almost in june now and at the moment things round here are 2016 levels of bad. Sorry, don't mean to depress anyone, I'm just venting a bit out loud I guess. I just hope things pick up soon. This area used to be amazing for storms ten or twenty years ago. Now I'm pretty sure it's the most storm starved place in the country. I'm not sure what's happened?
  6. Nice little heavy shower with some hail mixed in passed through here an hour ago. Looking to my northwest I can see a small cb developing, complete with clearly defined anvil. Did not expect that today.
  7. Thanks for your detailed explanation. Yes, that does make a lot of sense. As you say I think it would generally even out. I wasn't sure if it was picking up both ic and cg strikes or just one type? Not sure exactly how the radar detects strikes, but would enjoy learning.
  8. Seeing massive cb's like this really gives me a sense of mother natures power. Great pic.
  9. Must admit, it's nice to see the storms forum more active again after the winter off season. So far (although I've only had a few rumbles myself) april and the storm season in general has been off to a good start for quite a few peeps. Some lovely convective cloudscapes have been keeping me entertained, both near home and further afield including two cb's I spotted that had formed wall clouds on a trip back from Norfolk last thursday afternoon (sadly I was driving on the M11 at the time so couldn't stop to take pictures) and some other cb's with huge rain cores I saw on the horizon before later punching through on the same journey. The sky was really talking that day. Looks like we've got a bit of a lull coming up with a Scandanavian high moving in, but even so my confidence for a good season has been boosted by what we've seen so far.
  10. Interesting. I've also found the radar to miss quite a few strikes I've seen with my own eyes. I'm not sure if it picks up ic, cg or both?
  11. Could it be showing four forks that splintered off from one big bolt I wonder?
  12. Rugby and Wellingborough got a pasting on radar (lightningmaps) and as I'm typing this four simultaneous strikes just went up right between them, just north of Northampton. I'd love to be under that right now. Hoping my chance will come later in the night.
  13. Just heard a loud rumble from this lot to my west, right over towerhamlets.
  14. Convergence zone over london right now. Been watching the radar for the past hour. Lots of cells popping up all over.
  15. Lovely towers and cb's forming in towerhamlets this morning.
  16. Well, that was an interesting day yesterday! Gales, heavy showers, hail and in the evening heard a distant rumble - my first of the year. Radar at the time confirmed a storm to my east and another to my south so the rumble could've come from either. A great start to the season so far. Hoping for a good stormy year this year.???⛈
  17. Still haven't seen a drop of rain all week. The forecast is for us to get rain, strong winds, maybe a storm and even the possibility of a tornado in the small hours.
  18. Halfway through September and not a peep. I get the feeling that could be it for storm season.
  19. Well, this is boring isn't it? This summer has provided a few storms, but we've had very lengthy gaps of nothingness in between/months of inactivity and THAT disgusting heat. Hopefully after this quiet period September delivers the goods.
