Distant thunder now audible here in East Sussex
-
The rain was much needed down here but blimey, almost 6 hours non stop and feeling decidedly chilly at 11c.
-
The rain has finally arrived here but late enough that it didn't spoil what was a surprisingly good day and the warmest of the year here so far with 24.4c being reached.
Probably due to my age and health issues I actually found the conditions here this afternoon quite oppressive, despite being on the seafront and watching folk enjoy a bbq on the beach.
The garden is enjoying the rain and so am I now, sitting under the canopy I bought earlier this year. Still holding off from buying a patio heater at this time, hoping for a good summer !- 2

Just in case, webcams at the ready especially the Hastings one
Interesting, I'm 3 miles from Hastings pier and under blue skies though it is clouding over to my south.

Well, here in Weston-super-Mare, we got battered. Was amazing! Loads of loud bangs and rumbles, not much in the way of visible 'fork' lightning, oh and slight biblical rain.
The drain in our back garden turned into a weird garden feature too. That was one amazing storm.
That's a cracking good rumble of thunder !

Enjoying the warmest day of the year here with plenty of sunshine and a temperature of 21.7c. A thunderstorm and some much needed rain later would be a welcome bonus.

NW LONDON DUMP HOLE - hahaha!!!!
He's not wrong, I used to live just up the road from him, best thing I ever did was moving down here to Sussex by the sea 2 years ago !
After a couple of hours of warm sunshine here the cloud sheet is moving back in, feeling quite humid and 18.5c.

Thundery looking skies earlier have now given way to glorious sunshine and the temperature is responding nicely as a result. Currently 16.2c.
-
After the cloudfest that has prevailed since the beginning of the month down here at last the sun has made a concerted effort to break through and deliver a reasonble day. A max of 17.8c achieved.
The possibilty of something thundery in the next couple of days has peaked my interest, fingers crossed.

It's just easing off here now after about 3 hours of much needed and welcome rainfall. I haven't checked the totals yet but must be close to doubling the rainfall so far this month.
Edit: I spoke too soon, it's pouring down again.

I believe it's called showers.
I think you missed the point, Jo is well aware of what they are but explains in more detail in the linked article.

A lot of these statistics do not make sense.
Lisbon wetter than London? Eh?
I lived in Lisbon for 2 and half years, I can tell you now that although a Atlantic Ocean city is does not get more rain than London. With my partner being portuguese and from Lisbon I can confirm that it rains more here in the SE of England.
Amsterdam more snow than Gdansk, Warsaw and Berlin...? the list goes on!
Also it has Lisbon down as Number1 for sunlight hours with London no where to be seen.
Are these statistics from an official source?
I have no idea where the figures are sourced from to be honest, just a website I stumbled across whilst trying to get some more information.

It's been another pleasant and useable day here but still feeling quite chilly despite the sunshine with a max of 12c. The forecasted cold spell this week seems to be nothing much more than a couple of chilly nights for many of us here in the south east.
Still no signs of any useful rainfall though. On that subject I found some interesting statistics which seem to confirm my thoughts that London, the South East and East Anglia are in fact not as wet as some folk think when compared to the rest of Europe.

It's been another glorious day here in St Leonards-on-Sea with nigh on unbroken sunshine, a light breeze and a max of 15.4c. It may be boring to some but I'm more than happy with this current spell of very settled weather.

It's been a cracking weekend here and no mistake, completely at odds with some of the forecasts I saw earlier in the week.
Sunshine was in abundance despite the very visible clouds just a few miles to the west and north of my location. Winds were mostly light throughout and it was nice to see so many folk out and about enjoying the weather.- 2
-
The difference in weather conditions here today was very noticable. Clear blue skies and sunshine from the start in my location 2 miles inland, but the thick fog and much cooler temperatures persisted throughout the day on the seafront. Very localised.

What's not to like about this weather ? Blue skies and sunshine, temperature touching 16c and lot's of happy smiling folk strolling along the seafront here today.
It almost made me forget about the fabulous month I just had in Mallorca.- 2
-
A very pleasant 16.6c on the seafront here today with mostly blue skies from late morning, this is more like it.
Even so I was more than a little surprised to see folk swimming in the sea, 1 wearing a wetsuit but 3 others wearing just trunks. That is madness with the current sea temperature just 7.9c.- 2

Some nice little cluster of storms breaking out in northern France at the moment...
That probably explains the turbulence for a while on my flight from Mallorca to Gatwick this afternoon, we were in that vicinity at the time. Lightning also seen whilst driving home on the A21 this evening, around the Tunbridge Wells area.

I have mixed feelings about this forecast. Flying into Gatwick later this afternoon so it could be a bumpy ride.

I hope you all came through Storm Doris unscathed back in the UK. Meanwhile over here in Mallorca my holiday has been made complete by a cracking little thunderstorm just before dawn this morning.
That about completes my weather experience over here during my stay.
Sun ( lots of it ), snow ( on the mountain peaks for several days ), gales and now a thunderstorm.- 2

I took a ride on the very scenic Palma-Soller vintage railway yesterday and there are still patches of snow on the peaks from Tuesday nights rain/snow event here in Mallorca. Far more than I've seen back home in East Sussex that's for sure !
