As I remember that was a Thursday night too, plus additional and notable activity on the Friday and Saturday afterwards.
If so then this time I'll remember to chase on the Friday - because the last time I stayed put til too late to see that awesome wall cloud move in across the Channel towards Kent & Sussex...
I was on the seafront in Hastings watching as that epic storm came across The Channel and barrelled into Kent and Sussex. It's the most spectacular storm I have ever seen in the UK. Here is just one of the many good videos on YouTube.

Unfortunately for me I was often away from home (badly timed I have to admit), thus I only saw about 3 thundery showers (winter), and one notable event (summer). But I have to say the way I worded that sentence was a bit vague and pessimistic--- I do apologise.
No need at all to apologise, I was just surprised by the the comment given what I witnessed and made notes of for the thunderstorms we had here last year.

it seems as if today was a bust. we just had a moderate rain shower. Lets hope for some widespread thunderstorms soon, or it will be 2016 all over again.
I'm genuinely puzzled by that remark. According to the records I keep we had at least 15 thunderstorms in this area last year, some of which were quite spectacular, including some overnighters that lasted 2 or 3 hours.

Strewth, light levels down here on this part of the South Coast today are more akin to what I would expect in the depths of winter. Gloomy is an understatement.
If there is a positive, it's the fact my small garden has at least received a much needed soaking. The proper rainfall arrived here around 5pm yesterday evening and continued until around 9am this morning. A total of 46.6mm recorded locally during that time.
Some sunshine would be nice now, but failing that a glimpse of blue sky will suffice.- 3

Thunderstorm here now, some very loud thunder and torrential rain.

Just got home from the beach and unusually not a breath of wind there but a nice light breeze in my garden 2.2 miles inland. Currently 27.2c

Funny you should mention 1976 because the more I see and read the more I think we might just be in with a chance of repeating that epic early summer spell.

Obviously it's based on personal preferences but at this time of year my preference is for sunshine and warmth, and on that basis I give today a perfect 10/10. An absolute cracker of a day.
I'm hoping to score every day of the meteorological summer on a scale of 1-10 and since I began on June 1st this is the 4th 10/10 so far. Only 2 days have fallen below 5/10 ( 6th and 11th ).- 2

Its chucking it down here and lots of thunder. The seagulls are going nuts/
Odd you should have thunder, the nearest sferics appear to be in Italy and Austria ? Are you sure it's not a stray wheely bin

A much better day than I was expecting here to be honest. I was sitting on the beach in warm sunshine, albeit breezy, until it finally clouded over at 4pm this afternoon. Just sporadic light rain here since then but feeling quite humid.

Just back from a very pleasant afternoon enjoying the sunshine and music at Day 2 of the Hastings free Jazz and Blues Festival. Although quite breezy it felt warm enough at around 19c under mostly clear skies.
Going back for more of the same tomorrow hopefully.- 2

I'm quite surprised that last nights thunderstorm has been quite often reported both here and elsewhere as a 'Kent Clipper'.
Whilst the main body of the storm appeared to track eastwards through the English Channel it was quite widely observed from locations as far apart as Dorset to the west, the London area to the north and Essex to the east.
Here in St Leonards-on-Sea it produced some of the most spectacular lightning I have witnessed in the Uk for many a year. It first became visible as distant flashes around 10.30pm but within half an hour it was apparent this was going to be something quite special in this neck of the woods. The lightning was almost constant at times, some of it practically overhead and whilst most of the thunder was just a long rumble we had several shotgun blasts that had me running for cover at the time.
All in all I would rate this a 9/10 for a brilliant lightshow and longevity.- 5

Definitely a Kent clipper. Further inland than usual though so will keep an ear out. Not sure if I just heard a rumble or not. If so, it was a very long way off.
Kent Clipper ? It's been a constant strobing light show here in East Sussex for at least an hour with some very close c/g strikes and shotgun thunder.

Well this is perfect so far. Sitting in the garden having a beer and watching the light show. No rain and only a couple of distant rumbles of thunder but my word, lightning every few seconds.

Continuous sferics heard on my trusty old am radio here now and frequent flashes of lightning visible.

Suns come back out here for last 10 mins (and across south coastal counties east of here by looks of it) after the odd touch of light rain spits for the last couple of hours with that band of leftovers that moved up from the channel. Feels very muggy here but not going to get too enthused until later on once the plume destabilises; Not liking the amount of uncertainty between forecasts at the moment so will check back later to see where things are looking favourable.
Yes indeed. Sitting in my back garden here on the south coast as I type and barely a cloud in the sky. It's an ever changing situation though and I certainly won't be ruling anything out for the next few hours.

Morning everyone! We don't post very often (I aim to change that this year) but the Hastings webcam may be about to give us a show. Nothing here in Marlow at the moment but we should have some reports tomorrow and / or Monday.
I can confirm that we recently had a brief elevated thunderstorm in the Hastings/St Leonards-on-Sea area. Only lasted about 20 minutes but produced some vivid lightning and deep rumbles, first one of the year here.

Cheers Mapantz, I will give it a try later.

Apologies for asking what is probably a simple question but just wondering how I can post weather photo's directly from my android phone to the forums here ? Yes I admit to being a complete numpty technology wise.

@Mokidugwayis also excellent at the convective side of meteorology so maybe he could take up the mantle in here
No offence to Moki intended but is he really ? As much as I often appreciate his posts on various topics he's never struck me as being the 'go to' source for convective weather outlooks.

Just back from the beach on what has been an absolutely stunning day here. Cloudless azure blue skies, a steady breeze and 24.3c. I have to rate this a perfect 10.

Very faint distant rumble of thunder here from sferics just off the coast of Hastings.
