  1. Just been doing a few outside jobs, so now warming up finger ends on keyboard!  -6.6 overnight in the marginals, still -4.0 in the shade, but a stunning day outside. Exciting stuff-good to see ramp back in action, scoobs has snow at sea-level and i'm currently on Kasim-watch to see what these little features might bring later.  Possibly the marginals not so marginal ???? Not a usual set up for here in recent years, so interesting to see the outcome.

  2. Pretty grim in the marginals consistent- moderate to heavy rain since midnight, just backing off now. Forecast for frost overnight which will make the back lanes very interesting. Kasim are you getting decent snowfall over 300m then?-Just saw the odd flicker of sleet in the rain on a trip to Macc this morning.

  3. Forecast looks 'interesting' with this storm tomorrow. Rapidly deepening little runner. We've got away with it a little recently, but we could get this one in the teeth. Chance of amber warning in coastal areas later? Keep an eye on it and take care folks. pip22 take it easy and I hope you are back to top form soon.

Yes Woodford airfield near south Manchester recorded that in the January. Happened twice that year also in the December as well at the same spot. A very good year for cold that was, great memories.

Just beat me to it DH! I think in my lifetime only 1981 was colder-but again memory.......

Noticed east of the pennines there were areas barely 100m getting quite a bit of snow. Stronger easterly and always colder anyway that side perhaps? More intensity in the precipitation? Just thoughts but often see this

Think we do get a bit of rain shadow off an Easterly in this part of Cheshire-wonder if descending air also creates slight warming. Bit of a mini Foehn effect. Think I studied this stuff but it was a long time ago-the first thing that goes is your memory and I can't remember hat the second thing is!

  6. Well the marginals were well, marginal! Quite astonishing altitude variations with this snow event, hardly any snow at 200m, day after tomorrow at 250 plus-can't remember If i've ever seen a snow event with such sharp altitude delineations. Now significant airmass change and spring like and mellow outside-time of year I guess. This week looks interesting another yellow warning tomorrow night which again looks marginal at lower altitudes then further interest later in the week. Wonder if this flip-flopping is going to establish as a little pattern for a week or two?

  7. 3C (not sure about my sensor now), light snow in the cold and grey marginals, light Easterly breeze. -2 last night despite the cloud sheet moving in. Pretty confused here re forecasting and models-still lots of variation showing. Gut feeling is situation good for a heavy fall, but..... Lots of more scientific data to the contrary. Interestingly fax seemed to show Thursday/Friday depression not quite as far North, which leaves most of our region in the cold air mass. Nowcasting anyone?

  8. Bright and cold in the marginals, but still feels like spring out of the wind. This event is going to be interesting-synoptics looking good and as said yesterday this is the classic set up for the East Cheshire marginals-but it's getting late in the year, how much will altitude be a factor and small differences in low position could make a very big difference. Not sure i'm going to see many colleagues from the Peak District for a day or two though!
