I should think so too....that was nearly half a century ago.
Its happened before it will again! Less of the half a century makes me feel ancient

NOOOOOOO stop it, not a thing here.:-(
Its on your way but what will it be down in Warwick?
-
i feel the pain living in Kettering i am sure were are the worrst county for snow out there
Northants did very well March 1970 with up to 18 inches places!
-
Sleet here in Aberystwyth turning more readily to snow at times - nice to see!
Now that is a good sign for here! Colder air digging down ahead of the clearance over NW Wales then.
-
A very heavy shower here, things starting to whiten up and big temp drop.
That would be near Crymych then
-
Big steamer setting up Saturday morning over Carmarthenshire and over Swansea. Keep an eye on this, will change to pembrokeshire later on in the day and into Sunday as winds turn to northerly
If it stays in that position that suits me just fine
-
it's snowing not sticking though
Some nice looking heavier areas coming over Wales now so perhaps it will be snow for a few more of us this afternoon.

Am curious to understand why snow is falling and settling at modest elevation in parts of North West England, yet here we've had rain/sleet and am at higher up than some places with lying snow? (Chester Zoo, Liverpool, Manchester)
Wrong wind direction? Rogue warmer uppers?
Persistent heavy precip evap cooling I would think its highly marginal.

Ummm doing the usual trick where it gets to Birmingham/colishill area then dies out on the warwickshire plan. Typical :-(
At least they had a plan

Agreed. I'm unsure where most are getting their weather forecasts from as MetO and BBC have been pretty good at calling things this winter. So i'm unsure why people are disappointed when there was never anything really significant touted in the first place.
With the MetO updating their warnings and the cold only just getting started there's still bags of potential left.
As Public Enemy said "Don't.....don't don't don't......don't believe the hype" -------------> Mod boards
It ain't winter 13/14 and it ain't going to be 'mild' over the next week, so sit back an chill.
Problem is many people fall for the hype merchants (although to be fair not many on the Welsh thread this Winter).
Hasn't even properly started yet. Less cold tomorrow before Saturday into Sunday and into next week is the coldest air of the winter and the best chance of snow. If come the end of next week and you still haven't seen snow, then I'll agree with you.
Could be a decent snow event Tuesday for wales but we'll have to wait and see. Last night, today and tomorrow was always too marginal. Miss the days of 2010 when everything on the radar picture was snow, even in the sea
Yes we still have a week possibly more of opportunities.

Ah here is the second warning...
The unstable westerly airflow will veer northwesterly during Thursday bringing cold air further south across the UK. Showers will therefore become wintry to lower levels. 1 to 2 cm may settle almost anywhere, especially from late afternoon and into Thursday evening.
During the early hours of Friday morning a more persistent spell of rain, sleet and snow may affect parts of Wales, the Midlands and southern England. Again, 1 to 2 cm of snow is possible at low levels whilst locally up to 5 cm could settle on high ground above about 150 m. However, this is rather uncertain and many places will see little, if any, lying snow, and ice is more likely to be a hazard.
****Highlighted the key parts for everyone to set their expectations properly....****
Talk about a 'cover your back 'forecast. They've basically said, it may be rain, sleet or snow but more likely rain and sleet, but just incase the odd spot gets a bit of snow that sticks for a while we will say there's a tiny possibility of something accumulating. Lol.
But that is the fact of the matter - welcome to lowland UK Winter
Cloud cover arrived
So has the sleet :/
Really thought today had promise .
Feels like I've just missed out on 3/4 snow events this winter by 25 miles
Tut
And 100m!

As i said a couple of days ago!! There is a troughy feature thats comes through tonight where on the eastern side of it will be snow (east midlands)!! And then western side will be rain/sleet (west midlands)!! Looks like am gona be spot on but you never know! !
I can only see it being an extremely marginal mix (as usual) again tonight. In such situations it requires the heavy precip such as that presently over the Peak District to turn it to snow, but then would it settle to any extent with temps above 0c?
-
Very heavy snow continues here..
You would kop it all again would nt you
-
raining here.....yet another rubbish 'cold spell'
It was always going to be somewhat marginal.
-
Wrong !
Polar low on the way tonight, channel lows and slider lows very possible and beast from the east at end of many runs
Chin up lol
Failing that get on a train to higher ground
Its hardly a polar low with uppers close to zero!
