Wet, a bit of a breeze and cold in Chelmsford. We could be stuck with weather like this for rest of this month ?

most of the uk, paris, large parts of spain, even the bloody sahara desert have all seen decent snow this winter....
surely we have to get some?!!?!?!
As with everything, I blame it on BREXIT - the EU are keeping the snow from us ...

We did get an easterly, just yet again rather benign.
There were many who were getting SOO excited but this is what it always ends up in reality! Has been like this for 5 years. Hence, my recommendation on a health warning for the SSW and what may (or probably will not knowing our luck) come about.

I'm expecting at least to my knees, waist high is wishful thinking.
Covers my shoes, I will call it quits and look forward to spring!
This week, a fortnight ago - the charts were showing a potential easterly .... what did we get?- 1

Further ahead - we should all be concentrating on developments with the Stratospheric set up from next week - the GFS is practically rendered useless by this and will change considerably by next week - keep your eyes out for the potential for a strong easterly mid-latter end of Feb. Afraid this won't become clear until nearer the time - the charts (particularly GFS) are hopeless at sorting this out at this range
I think there should be a huge health warning attached to the possible developments in latter Feb. I get the feeling some people are expecting this: in Hyde Park.
Seen toooo many fabled hysterical developments over past years, which led to a chilly couple of days and en mass wrist slitting on the MOD thread and beyond.- 1

Some years ago there was a potential snow alert (it didn’t happen) and I subsequently bought a snow shovel from Tesco. They had also seen the alert and had loads of shovels at the entrance to the store.
I have had this snow shovel some five years now and all it’s ever been used for is shovelling leaves in the autumn, says it all really.
I thought I was the only one who brings out the red shovel to clear leaves in autumn! I am so relieved I am not alone

Hopefully the odds are more stacked in our favour this time. ?
I would love to believe that ...

The MOD thread - quite a lot of excitement and hope pinned on the late Feb last chance saloon for this winter ....

Anyone know if there is anything exciting coming up after the warmer phase as of tomorrow?

I remember March 2005. One of the best snowfalls for my area of north kent in March. 9 inches of snow and snowing all day. I wouldn't mind that
Yep, a beefy fall of heavy snow, that hangs around for a few days with frequent top ups in that time, just for us to get the snow crave out of our system ?

No surprised there then. I’m guessing all hope is pinned on end of Feb and the SSW. If that doesn’t deliver then goodbye winter hello spring
Going on the experience of past, it will be "hello spring" albeit a cold one.

I am now looking forward to spring!
Another damp squib of a cold snap - dry and mundane! Saw reports of 1-3 cms for my area - showers all night but got 1 snow shower that came and went in 20 mins.
Don't worry - there is always potential in 10+ days -

Yep :(, wintry showers mentioned this morning!
High temps too, not impressed another poor form by the models and more known forecasters re-snow and cold!
Get the feeling that even if everything aligns on the models, it seems to always underwhelm when it gets to our shores in reality. We then have consoling messages such as (paraphrasing) "at least it is a change from what we have - frost is good!" or "2-3 days of cold is better than none"

For anyone wanting an easterly, don’t look at the latest gfs run, it’s dire. Is this already going pear shaped I wonder!
This on/off/on/off, always outside reliable range easterly has been going on for 2 weeks already. It is computer weather I tell ya ...

This is absolute rubbish. The areas you mentioned will get plenty of cold weathrr and snowfalls in years to come.
Why people look back on winters past with their rose tinted glasses on I don't know. Having lived through the 70's and 80's I can tell you there were plenty of mild winters back then. Yes there were very cold snaps and big snowfalls here in the south west but they were rare events even back then.
In years to come, when conditions are right we will still see very cold weather and snowfalls, even here in the south west, but they will be pretty rare events and they always were!
Yeah, but when we have experienced warmer winters and hardly any snowfall for the best part of a decade, then surely, we should take it as the new norm!?
I have to say I am speaking more for when I live and work and that is the SE.- 1

Roll on spring .Thats when we see normally see proper Northern Blocking and the chance of some decent snow here.Last time we saw lying snow here was March 2013;more than in Dec 2010
Godd riddance Winter 17/18 a complete joke and traversty of a winter in the SE
We need to get used to the idea that this is now the norm!
Snow in the SW, S and SE of the UK particularly is now rare, transient events.- 2

30 years of nearly snowless January’s are though.
how many decent cold snowy spells can anyone remember in JANUARY since the 80s ,count them on one hand
... and yet there are still expectations that every Jan will be a beasterly snowfest!
I an losing the will to live when people still gain some excitement from day 10 models! I have a gut feeling that the 2 snow days we saw last month in the SE is it for this winter. Getting into a cycle of nothingness, then hope and then verbal fights on the MOD thread when it all disintegrates near reliable time.

Sure it gloomy today! left for work at 8.30 this morning, all street lights were on as were my headlights. Only marginally brighter now ...

In Rayleigh this morning, another demonstration that snow DOES settle on a sodden wet ground after persistent rain!
Massive flakes that turned everything white before it slowed and stopped around 7.45am.
Nice to see, it melted quick afterwards for a trouble free run to work- 1

The most treacherous driving conditions out and about in quite a while. Lots of black ice (away from the main routes) but many drivers driving around seemingly oblivious - going too quick or driving too close to the vehicle in front....

with 3 weeks left of 2017, pretty safe to say that will be the case.
