I am waiting for the downgardes and model thread despondency .... call me a mahoosive cynic but this is one lesson I have learnt from this winter season ... and the last ....
-
You see that towel over there? I just threw it in!
Tired of following the model thread now and seeing potential snow and cold, so no more. We just have to accept that in the UK - wind and rain are the dominating weather factors in almost all seasons and seems to be the over riding weather pattern as this planet's climate changes. Last year, I had a day of transient snow here in Essex. I don't think we will even see that this year. Granted, have had 5 days more frost - feel so sad even typing that!I am just pleased that the fiction writers in tabloid newspapers who predicted a month of the Artic are now highlighted for who they are - story writers or fantasists.

yes very strange that our blackbirds are leaving the berries alone [ours are pyracanthia berrys ] also we have a gang of long tail tits passing through several times per day could be 20 or 30 birds ,and i have frogs croaking when usually they are well and truly usually under some log or shed ,all very interesting
I think they are all just very confused by the warmer temps! lol

Having read different sources regarding this winter, think it is best concluded that no one really knows. Some say El Nino is dead set to give us weeks of snow and ice, others say the phenomenon has little impact to our position on this planet.
Best to wait and see and keep calm
A lot of people draw parallels between weather conditions now and how thinga panned out in winters past. Are they worth doing? Feels a bit clutching at straws to me...
Hope this winter brings weather more akin to winter as opposed to a long drawn out 6 month autumn

Not a lot going on in Essex?
-
Looks like that's it folks
Basking in the sunshine here in Chelmsford, was waiting for the clouds and showers ....
-
Will snow begin to settle on a wet ground?
-
Snowing in Chelmsford ... 2 year snow drought has ended!
Not settling though.- 1

Been following chat on here and on Model threads about impending cold weather. The foprecast on Netweather has daytime maximums at 7c for my area (Chelmsford), seems a bit chilly but not quite "Cold snap"??
-
Yep as always not happy with those forecasts.
We are meant too see heavy snow showers later but I will surprised if I get a 1cm before the Sunday.
It probably will snow but I doubt it will settle. All the showers this morning melted as soon as it hit the deck.

Most of central and southern Essex has been excluded from this event. It snowed lightly in Chelmsford in the morning, Just damp, grey and cold now ....
-
I live in southern part of Essex and work in central part of county. Have to say that the BBC forecasts for snow has been exaggerated for these areas thus far. Is there any snow expected for these areas towards the weekend? Planning to move things out of a property and would like to know. Thanks.
-
Am I justified to say that the Met Office has over done their warnings? Yes it did snow hard for about 2 hrs in central Essex but it never settled and was never likely too with the temps at +2c ....
On flip side back in Dec, got pasted in snow and there were no warnings .....
-
Chelmsford - It is coming down moderately here but it is not settling on anything
-
What are the chances of snow for Central / Southern Essex?
Thanks.

First thing Kent and most of Britain have got temperatures from 1 to 3C at this present time, and this was to be expected.
Second thing, Snow will hit Kent, Sussex, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk for sure but its still over the low countries at this time and still far too much going on to say what the outcome will be. At this present moment it looks liek everything is falling into place on the mdeium and long range radar systems, short range such as your free 30 minute one at BBC and UKMO will not really show the snow at this moment, it will in due course but its out of that range. The front is coming this way, it is solid and it is moving about and growing in parts.
The big unknown question is how much moisture it wil soak up in the north sea that is about 9C. If as forecast it grows quickly then "YES" we would get hit. The UKMO only have skeleton staff on Sunday's and the update will always be slow even for a warning they are holding on as they can not be 100% sure of timing now.
I hope that clears all that up. Its thawing at Whitstable, but also keeps grain snowing as well, the whole of Kent is covered with flurries, but nothing signigicant at this moment.
Thank you for the update.

WELL DONE to all those people on here that got the forecast right - there is no snow, there is no strong wind, just a slight breeze amd the temp has picked and started a thaw. The MetOffice got it COMPLETELY WRONG! It is now snowing snow grains and making the floor very wet.

-- Rayleigh, Essex --
Been snowing lightly since before 7am but the temp is increasing, currently it is 2.9c. The light covering is melting.
Is it likely to get colder and snow heavier later on? Wife is working up London, trying to keep her updated.
Thanks.

Raining in Rayleigh!
-
Here in Rayleigh, it is snowing relatively but it is no-longer sticking

hmmm .... sounds like nature seems to think it is spring. Perhaps we better start to hope for a nice hot summer as opposed to any snow.
-
Lots of fruit and berries on the trees
- true this year: apples and plum trees are heavily laden
I don't buy into nature offering indicators as to what lays ahead weather wise but I have to mention the pear tree in my parents garden. Gone totally mad this year. It has produced so much fruit this year, it is equal to almost what it normally produces in 2 years. They are already ripe and falling all over the place.
I have had a couple of buckets of fruit already.
Off topic but it is an unusual thing!

This thread makes for very interesting reading.
However, I reckon that we should take all this info with a pinch of salt. I read on this forum a fair bit and more times than not, Mother Nature rarely goes by scientific prediction in this day and age. Unsettled has been the theme since last November, apart from a summer feeling April/May, this unsettled theme has rumbled on and on and on and on in a very seasonless kind of way.

I was genuinely saddened by the passing of summer this year as it was decent and protracted. I knew that winter will bring months of nothingness ... which is holding true to form so far ...
Despite our hopes, we all know that Christmas is usually grey and green. Lots of ramping forecasts, falling by the wayside
