  1. >10% over the previous record, wow! Just out of interest, what's the average? You never get 20cm up there, it just blows away!
  2. Heavy shower with sleet here too, very wet sleet, that is.
  3. Wind is going nuts here. Had hail briefly but it didn't hang about for long.
  4. Less impact than Ciara here. It looks like the last of the rain has moved away from the Mersey catchment and the river level is already dropping. Now at 230cm, down from 235cm peak. It hit 250cm last Sunday. River level information for River Mersey at Northenden - GOV.UK FLOOD-WARNING-INFORMATION.SERVICE.GOV.UK Check your risk of flooding: get current flood warnings, river and sea levels, check the 5-day forecast or use flood...
  5. There's a new splodge of rain coming across SE Ireland now.
  6. My gut feeling is that we haven't had a sustained dry spell since the Whaley Bridge incident in late July.
  7. Close lightning, ground strikes. The dog's terrified. The wind is gusting as hard as it did earlier.
  8. Nope, Frankfurt. Lucky the City match was postponed, I bet someone on that flight was heading there.
  9. That's the one. I have a video of foot high waves on the ship canal. Thelwall and Barton bridges were both shut and the traffic was stationary around Trafford Park, but I just rode my bike home past them all with no difficulty. Heading for Amsterdam?
  10. Same for me. Even in the 2007 storm I only remember 55 knot gusts reported. EK17 having another go now...
  11. The squall line is going sideways, I got bored of watching it. Still honking down, video later. EK17 on approach at MAN. Where's that airport livecam gone?
  12. ESTOFEX level 2 for us now, not seen that in a while. Current ESTOFEX Convective Forecasts - ESTOFEX WWW.ESTOFEX.ORG "A level 2 was issued for Ireland, southern UK, northern France, Benelux and Germany mainly for severe to extremely severe wind gusts and tornadoes." "Given very strong background wind field, with 850 hPA windspeeds around 35 m/s, convective line may enhance the wind gusts near the surface, resulting in widespread severe and isolated extremely severe gusts."
  13. Lovely fresh morning. I wouldn't call it crisp, it's not cold enough for that. A few views from my commute:
  14. We're in inversion territory now: 8C at MAN but only 5C at 850hPa level. Full on murk at ground level. Yesterday we even managed some drizzle under a 1040hPa high, that must be a record surely? Welcome to Manchester, the world drizzle capital!
  15. Foggy at home yesterday morning, but the sat pic seemed to show it was confined so we went up to Dovestones and were rewarded with a beautiful day, and these views. There was a helicopter taking advantage of the still conditions to deliver scores of bags of heather brash to help in the restoration of the eroded moor. There's a good description here from the organisation involved.
  16. Super high pressure next week but mild, so probably claggy
  17. Marvellous NW streamer this morning. Shame it's not 5 degrees cooler.
  18. Jack Frost still here in the shade, as the temperature starts to drop once more. Proper cold night coming up.
  19. 151mm since Monday on this station. https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/IKETTLES2/graph/2019-07-31/2019-07-31/monthly
  20. Some folks are getting a soaking on Southport pier:
