  1. Blackpool webcam: Live Cam Blackpool WWW.SKYLINEWEBCAMS.COM View of the Promenade and Central Pier from Viva Blackpool There may be others. Two cells look active, one to the south and one out west. For us storm-starved southerners, this could be the next best thing!
  2. You are doing well in the north west! Nothing for us in the SE. Anything importing from France is drying out, and where developments have tried, they swiftly fizzle out. I have often mentioned my theory of the "Thames Valley high pressure zone" and (regardless of the accuracy of my theory) it seems to be well in force at the moment. (My theory goes that the horseshoe of low hills surrounding London acts as a local weather influence). Unless the pressure slips (it has moved one millibar down here) and the cap comes off, we're stuck.
  3. West country - enjoy! Some beefy stuff on the radars. Here in the SE temperatures are rising for another low 30s by the looks of it. A little more haze in the air. I am thinking any chance we have will be an occasional pop-up storm. I'll hope for imports from northern France (where Estofex give a Level 1) later. Or not. I think my PC chair is beginning to melt...
  4. Ermmmm as a retired librarian of uncertain disrepute, I confess I haven't the faintest. Judging by the MO pressure charts the rotation is slow and could be into tomorrow morning. Then again, given the uncertain low-pressure mess over northern Europe and UK, it might not do anything. Alexisj9 felt the outflow from central French storms was pushing it, so it may disassemble before rotating.
  5. Met Office forecast a short trough forming in northern France / Belgium. Those Channel showers look like they are the beginning of it. I'm not really sure of the Met Office's pressure charts, but I think they forecast it rotating and heading into SE England as a north-south aligned trough tomorrow. I think this might be worth watching. The south-west showers do not (yet) appear to be electrified? Fingers crossed....!
  6. Yep. That instability I photographed has already burnt away.
  7. Some nice mid-level instability forming. Don't know if it will progress anywhere yet. Hot at 28c. I also managed to fix that banana brolly (as featured in bottom of piccie).
  8. Here in the SE it's a slightly hazy, humid and hot morning. A little instability mid-level but the air it has that "feel" to it. It's a pretty moisture-filled layer on the ground and I do not feel it would take much to start some action. If anything crops up, I'll shout! Meanwhile, repairing that banana patio umbrella yet again...sigh...
  9. The "Depression and Counselling" comment made my day. Thank you! Well, I've got my hopes up for once. Surely three DAYS of nationwide yellow warnings of severe thunderstorms has got to entertain us! When not watching the skies, I'll be watching the radars, the sferic maps and the comments. (If I can just see my monitor through the flies, moths and mosquitoes...)
  10. Met Office is mumbling about the possibility of a storm or two around during the night. Interesting! A blast of arctic air would do right now as I am inundated with flies, moths and mossies piling in through the open patio door. My son says he saw a pterodactyl flying over; we're trying to suggest it actually might have been a heron. It is surprising how often they fly in the dark. Nothing on the lightning sites for Northampton, like Blitzorg etc.
  11. I was idly perusing the pressure charts from the MO and wondering if that slack low pressure could generate something. I'm guessing maybe not as there does not look enough instability in the whole set up? But then I remembered the (nicely put) anti-storm dome. How long have we experienced the Kent Clipper phenomenon, too? In the 1980s I recall plume after plume from the south and the regular 11:00pm - 3:00am storms over the south east. And then they stopped. Since then...apart from the very occasional exciting moment...it has been rubbish. So I'm not holding out much hope.
  12. Looking at the rain radar, it would appear the cold front is decaying and drying from the south. Any activity over France is all but gone. Looks like a mega-bust for the SE.
  13. Fired up north of London quickly! Enjoy it Clear skies here...again. Sigh.
  14. Does drizzle count as severe weather? High based, boringo-cumulus drifting around. The hot air under it is like a fart under a duvet. Can't see much going to come out of this. Looks like it is drying out against high pressure.
  15. Hmm. We seem to have gone from a dead duck to an active warning in just a few hours. The problem is, almost everyone has a different take on it! I'm amused at receiving an e-mail from the Met Office warning of thunderstorms in the South East, only to find what I would call the South East is actually not in the warning area (rolls eyes). I do wish they'd improve their region definitions. Looks like we'll get some rain today. That's for sure.
  16. A light shower ends our heatwave. No storms, no fun no thunder.
  17. Trying to catch up this morning after being hit by a fruit fly invasion here in tropical Reigate. All we had was a bit of rain over which the missus woke me up at 6:00am and offered a cup of tea. 6:00 a m Looks like we're still bust (as predicted last night) here in the SE unless that cloudless blue sky can produce something. Some good stuff up north. Enjoy everyone!
  18. My Internet once again is playing up. I can't even get the Met Office to load properly. If I persist I'm going to damage my blood pressure! I'm calling it a day. Anyone who catches one of these "Yellow Warning" storms then enjoy it! I don't get the impression this will be the storm-fest widely anticipated. more likely another national bust with a few lucky strikes. Enjoy!
  19. Aha! Hurricane Kent Clipper forms in the Channel... Seriously, watching that decay from the main mass makes me wonder if that dragged one or more tornadoes out of that rotation.
  20. I just glanced at the radar and see there is an area of rain heading across the Channel towards Surrey. However, not only has it de-electrified, it is shrivelling as it heads north. That suggests a cap remains over the area despite some low-level drizzle showing up. Hmmm. I'm not encouraged. Looks like a "whimper" scenario for the heat exit.
  21. Looks like the staff of the cafe failed their brolly training. Hysterical watching the guys fight with them! One of the brollys now reduced to matchwood. More entertaining than waiting for storms in Reigate.
  22. The rain shower is behind the camera, and it's not very electrified either. Hmm. Even on TV it's a bust!! It's a shame Netweather's coloured lightning crosses are pretty much the same colour as most of the rainfall colour index.
