Hi there, I'm new to this forum, but have always had a keen interest in the uk climate, especially since 1987. I put this down to a few weather events that occurred during that year which included the big freeze, some of the heaviest snowfall in London and the southeast area for a number of years.
Also the Great October Storm, and thundery summer, particularly the mid august thunderstorms which occurred on a Friday night( if I remember correctly), and carried on into the following day.
My question here is, were the summers of 1980, and 1987 as bad as most people tend to remember them?
I do recall some cooler spells, but remember August 1987 having long hot periods, and parts of june and July of 1980 being hot and humid at times.
Maybe my memory doesn't serve me so well these days. Does anyone have a good account of both summers, and if so, which one was poorer?
