  1. I would love another winter that gives us a 1987 January snowfall, or Feb 1991, or snowfalls of 2009 and 10.
  2. This summer, mid July to mid August feels similar to 1987.
  3. Yeah, I think this year will see a shift towards colder conditions, and a return to the winters the UK had between 2008-2012.
  4. It does seem like the summer has remained poor since the thunderstorms around July 19th(think that was a Tuesday), and temps haven't recovered to anything above 22c since that week. london hasn't had a day 25c or above for about a month now. Hopefully a warm or hot spell will return before the end of August. The plus side of all of this though, was the much needed rain after months of dry weather.
  5. I'll go for something similar to August 1980, or 2010. Cool and unsettled, with dry weather throughout and the occasional short periods of warm sunny weather, witn some storms.
  6. I'm predicting a poor august, following on from what was a good early to mid summer for 2017, and probably the best summer weather since 2014 in the southeast region.
  7. I think 2017/18 winter will buck the trend of recent milder winters, that have dominated since the autumn of 2013. I would love a return to the winters if 2008/9 - 2010/11 period, as this was the best time for colder winters since the mid 1980s, and early 90s.
  8. August 5th/6th 1981 supercell thunderstorms over London and southern England. I was on my school holidays and remember the daylight fading and it turned completely dark for an hour or more. It was pitch black, so the cloud tops must have been over 40,000 feet. It was also very hot that week.
  9. Hi there, I'm new to this forum, but have always had a keen interest in the uk climate, especially since 1987. I put this down to a few weather events that occurred during that year which included the big freeze, some of the heaviest snowfall in London and the southeast area for a number of years. Also the Great October Storm, and thundery summer, particularly the mid august thunderstorms which occurred on a Friday night( if I remember correctly), and carried on into the following day. My question here is, were the summers of 1980, and 1987 as bad as most people tend to remember them? I do recall some cooler spells, but remember August 1987 having long hot periods, and parts of june and July of 1980 being hot and humid at times. Maybe my memory doesn't serve me so well these days. Does anyone have a good account of both summers, and if so, which one was poorer?
