  1. Born in May of 76, so I have no memory of that summer. But, my family used to mention it from time to time, and told me 1975 was also hot. The earliest memories of a hot summer was July and August of 1983, and the following summer of 84. At the time, it just seemed the norm to have long hot sunny days. 1989 and 90 stand out more so, as I was a teenager by then. Both Summers were warm or hot with long dry spells, and a very mild winter between them. Then we had to wait again until 1994, although the August was slightly disappointing, July of 94 was the hottest since 83 at that point. 1995 was the best of the bunch though. After what seemed to be a poor start to summer, with May and the first half of June being cold and dull, the heat arrived mid month, and apart from one or two days of rain, we had weeks of unbroken sunny and hot days. Summers haven’t been bettered since.
  2. I was 11 at the time. My family noticed how mild the Christmas weather was that year. I recall it being a very mild day, even warmish with blue skies. Or maybe that was another Christmas. Winters prior to late 87 were more seasonal.
  3. I'm glad to be off to Latvia for the Christmas holidays. At least there's guareteed snowfall. Plus, I love those cold minus temp days with clear skies. Wish we could have more of those winters from the 2008-2012 era back.
  4. The autumn of 87 was the start of it. The great storm in October, was one of the first signs of a shifting climate.
  5. Yeah, I lived in TO( as the locals know it). It has proper seasons there, but sometimes the winters can be too cold, while the summers can be very humid at times.
  6. Btw, it depends what part of Canada. The Atlantic provinces don't get very hot summers. It can be cool and rainy at times. Same goes for Vancouver.
  7. It's a shame, because it spoilt our holiday. We were just unlucky I guess. Mind you, on the days we had the sun, temps were in the 27-31 region.
  8. It doesn't always work that way. 1989, 94 and 2001 had fairly warmish octobers, along with 2006. All the winters that followed were mild or very mild.
  9. Seems strange. I was in Mallorca 3 weeks ago, and we had several days of rain.
  10. I have a feeling it will be a continuation of the run of winters we had between 1987/88 to 89/90, going by the Indian summer coming up next weekend. I hope it isn't though, it just seems like so many winters now are like that post 87.
  11. I think it's possible. Another 1987 or 1991 could happen again.
  12. I lived in Toronto from August 1999(just after the eclipse) until march 2001. The summer of 99 was very hot, right through until mid September. Temps were hovering between 25-32 or up as high as 34-35 on some days. The cooler weather sweeped in by mid September, and the first snows arrived just after Christmas that year. Jan 2000 was snowy, and although it snowed for a week, most of the people I spoke to, said this was a mild winter in comparison to the previous one. Summer 2000 wasn't as hot, although warm to hot spells occurred in June, July and August, I remember some periods of cooler and thundery conditions. Storms in Toronto are quite widespread, due to Lake Ontario on its doorstep. The following winter brought tons of snow, almost to the point where I felt slightly bored with it by the time we reach Feb 2001.
  13. Maybe a 1981-82 would be the best we can hope for. 2010 winter is less likely.
  14. Maybe a cold snowy spell will happen between December and January. The recent cooling trend since August, could be a hint.
  15. September 84 was cool overall, following a hot July and August. The October and early part of November was warmish that year. The winter that followed was freezing cold. This was the start of a run of cold winters, and poorer summers during the mid 80s
  16. I'm hoping we don't get a long run of boring mild cloudy days, mixed in with several days of rain throughout the coming winter. Much prefer some sun and drier conditions. Cold and dry.
  17. Yes, but that doesn't make them great summers does it. I also know the 1985-88 era had poor summers.
  18. It's a shame that 2017 fell apart in mid July, because up to that point, it was a nicer year in terms of dryness and sunny spells( when compared to the previous two years), but a poor second half of July and poor August makes it disappointing. And we haven't had a decent summer for 3 years. Too many cloudy days in recent times during the main summer months. Sorry Alan Partridge, I have to disagree with you.
  19. This summer has been a combination of 1986, 1980 and 87. Poor summers, and only one of those was followed by a cold snowy winter. The latter two were mild ones.
  20. I would say compared to anything from post 2014, it was an improvement compared to 2015, and 2016(both relatively poor summers, although 2016 had a better august) but still on the poor side when compared to the summer of 2013. It started off promising, late May and most of June, apart from one week earlier in June, when we had a cooler interlude, was warm and turned hot towards the second half of June. It was the sunniest time of the year, and most of us were able to enjoy the longer sunny evenings. Early to mid July was warm or hot at times, but since the mid July storms, the summer fell apart, and gave us some of the worst summer weather since the 80s. August was dreadful, despite having a nice warm bank holiday, most of it was cool and cloudy. It struggled to reach 15c one day during the month, and I live in London.
  21. I think a colder than average run will happen eventually.
  22. What kind of problems? Some people, (not including myself though)prefer milder temps.
  23. I hope it's not another mild Christmas period. I'm finding the run of frost free Christmas periods kind of tedious.
  24. I think it's going to be colder this winter, when comparing it to anything we've seen since 2013. The cooling trend since mid July sort of indicates this, and September still continues this trend. This time last year, most of the uk were enjoying much warmer temps for the time of year.
  25. It started off quite well, with a warm to hot spell at the end of May. Then a brief cooler period early June, but the temps and sunshine improved, and we had some very warm and even hot spells in London. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the hot humid nights between mid June and mid July, but sunshine was plentiful. Summer however seemed to deteriorate after the thunderstorms in mid July, and didn't really recover until the end of August. It was average, but probably the best summer overall since 2014, although still poor.
