Hello to fellow Dorkinians. Yes, good to be in on the action this evening!
Except now we're in the middle of that great big hole

Starting to settle on the pavements and roads. Not seen that in Dorking for a while...
Certainly beginning to look good for us!! I had to drive into Dorking at about half 3 this afternoon. The lying snow from Tuesday petered out just outside westcott... But was flipping cold, never got over 2 in either direction

Ah, you are just under five miles away (and over 100 metres up) from me - I hope you do well out of this!
Hopefully we all will, but at the moment it seems reminiscent of last march.... The Surrey Hills seemed to miss the worst!

On the radar it definitely looks like the pivot has started, but I may be imagining it....

Only when I was a scout and we used to night hikes from the youth hostel - Richard and I are videoing (slowly) the Greensand way but we started from leith Hill and are walking east but we will go further west!
I actually think the views from the top of Holmbury Hill are better than those from Leith Hill, especially on days like today!

Thanks so much John, for all that info, that's great to have! I'm always on the look out for new places to walk and things to see!
More importantly.... There are some great pubs nearby!!!

In answer to both, yes I have been to the waterfall.
I have done two videos last Thursday with my friend Richard Vobes, aka the Bald Explorer...
the tower:
The waterfall:
(we also did a couple of videos around leith Hill tower and one on Friday Street earlier this year...) I’ve done quite a few with him now!
Forgot to say... Great videos

Have you walked the iron age fort on Holmbury Hill? The earth works very much visible

I've been to Friday Street but never heard of a waterfall near there?!
It's not a natural one, again built by the landowner of Leith Hill tower so I believe. It's also close to the source of the Tillingbourne.
This Wikipedia link talks about it:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_Street#Tillingbourne_Waterfall
This one from the getsurrey website. Some good walks nearby:

That sounds similar to what I saw on Reigate Hill this morning.
btw, amazing part of the world you are in - I found the tower at Broadmoor last week...
It is beautiful, I moved here 19 years ago with a three year plan!!! That's the tower that was also built by the same landowner as Leith Hill Tower. Have you ever found the waterfall between Broadmoor and Friday Street?

You must have had some snow this morning there? I was at Broadmoor round the back of Leith Hill last Thursday and there was a tiny amount of snow then as well!
We had about 5cm at midnight, but it had thawed a little to about 2-3cm first thing... Not much further thaw during the day, still a lot on the ground tonight and very bitter now!

What’s not been talked about much is the strength of the wind coupled with the snow.
Over the Downs there might be some drifting.
As a West Sussex boy I'm guessing you mean the south downs nick? However, now I'm living in the Surrey Hills, just of the back edge of Leith Hill, I'm expecting similar conditions here. Also looking at comments previous about the pivot point, an hoping the Surrey Hills could be in the very sweet spot?

Must be close to 2cm proper snow here in the Surrey hills in an hour. Still tanking or down.

she'll be fine.
Brill..... Is settling very fast here now. In half an hour nothing to close to 2cm

My wife has to drive back home to just outside Dorking from Kingston Uni, this evening does anyone have an idea what it's like between the two? She doesn't normally leave until after 9, with leaving early?
-
Heavy snow here in the Surrey Hills. Just of the back edge of Leith Hill, so probably closer to 200m. Think it turned from rain only half hour or so ago, but I've been stuck inside until ten minutes ago with no lamppost to watch
