Just read through the last couple of days comments and results from @TomSE12... thank you Tom... thrilling reading... although I’m gutted my settling snow evidence was discounted I’ll accept the democratic process and won’t raise any protest... although I must say there was still lying snow in sheltered places even this afternoon!
Thoroughly enjoyed the competition so far... I’ll send you my weekend marking over later if you like?
All the best,
John

Been a very cold day here in the Surrey Hills! Can’t have gotten above freezing as the snow from yesterday still frozen solid all over our garden and cat. I we cold sat indoors at my computer for the first day term and the return online teaching. One real downer of these times is that there’ll never be another School snow day again....
edit... just posted and read that back... it’s not the cat just the car.. predictive text

@Steve Murr what’s the model of weather station you’ve got? I’m looking at getting my dad a new one for his birthday...

Some comparison made on the MAD thread at the moment with Feb 86 cold spell... I don’t recall much of that winter, with the exception of the exceptionally cold temperatures in Florida that January that contributed to the Space Shuttle Challenger exploding just after lift off on the 28th January...I was living in Haywards Heath at the time and vaguely a few very snowy days that possibly closed the schools.. can anyone else add any details?

If that can shift 20 miles West the Surrey Hills will be in the game.... although the Surrey Hills snow shield will undoubtably be fully functioning

Secretly admit, that snowy ECMWF chart for Friday for the Midlands and South-East looked Winter-ful and has got me a little excited. Even though it could quite easily not happen. Must remember now you silly Red Line it’s only one chart. Even if there is a bit of support
So do be aware guys and try not get too sucked in yet, but I totally understand the enthusiasm. Think quite a number, looking at the posts, are feeling the same. Will deffo be the case of looking at the lampposts and out of windows on the day itself. Could be like one of those situations where the models hand out snowy presents for excited cold weather fans... only to find it’s impossible to take off the wrapping paper!
In that regards, we will seriously have to consider opening this up from tomorrow onwards. The demand I’m sure will be sky high
Been updated to 2020 standards above compared to what it was like last year
All newly refurbished inside as well
Clearly in a tier 1 area

Cheers what year was it?
I’m almost certain it 2010... our daughter was old enough to talk by that time.
The year before in 2009 I can remember 4ft icicles from the drain pipes at the school we teach at
