Who remembers 2009?2010? where SW London got 40cm of snow in about 6 hours in a similar scenario - METO stuck out a red warning! People stranded on M25 !

I do remember it very well Steve! We were going to my parents in Haywards Heath and had stopped in Crawley for a bit of Christmas shopping... we were having lunch and saw the snow tanking down and decided to get going... it then took 2 hours to do the normal 30mn journey

  2. Hi Tom,

  3. Went to Portsmouth mid morning and left mid afternoon... very chilly in the wind, but beautifully clear skies and warm in the sun, lovely lunch watching the boats from Gunwharf Quays... once we came over the downs on the way home became very dull. By the time we got back to the Surrey Hills and stopped at The Parrot in Forest Green for a pint there was the odd spot of rain...

  4. Just got back this afternoon from our 5 (which turned into 6) night trip to Leamington, Swansea and Bath with my parents. Had a lovely time, two amazing restaurants in Swansea, a day at The Mumbles and a day in Tenby... missed the storms there on Monday as we left just as they were starting...

Bath was so nice we paid for an extra night in a posh hotel rather than the premier inn!! Did the tourist thing and took the open top bus tours, played mini golf and had a great tapas meal in a restaurant owned by friends of my sister.

Thank goodness for hotel air con is all i can say though!! We were supposed to stay a little longer today but my mum had a funny turn when we were taking the cases back to the car this morning! She has low BP and went very faint... we think it was heat exhaustion/ stroke from yesterday but she maintains it was something from breakfast. It was like she was having a stroke, so got an ambulance but they gave her the all clear and we came straight home! Very worrying, especially for our daughter to see!

    Anyway... the weather...

We missed the thunder here in Holmbury St Mary earlier... watched it building over this way as we drove back from Haywards Heath, got back here no rain at the top of the hills, some in HSM lots of rumbles!! Checked the radar when we got in and it all seemed to have bubbled up over us!

    Hope it comes tonight

  5. Well a bit of an SE Region Bus Man’s holiday here.... left the Surrey Hills at 10 this morning to come to Folkestone for a trip to Port Lypme and then some retail therapy at McArthur Glen in Ashford..... unfortunately the M20 didn’t play nice this morning and we were stuck for the best part of an hour around Maidstone... so switched the tickets for PL until tomorrow and the wife and daughter shopped this afternoon instead!

Staying at the BW Clifton Hotel in Folkestone tonight.... food, service and downstairs are flawless... the rooms are a little tired though...

Glad we changed the days around as when we arrived in Folkestone the weather was foul for a good couple of hours.... calmed down now... so roll on the Zoo tomorrow...

Sounds bad (except for the bit about the snow ⛄️ )  I note though that the met office app is showing sustained wind speeds of 35mph and max gust of 65mph for Reykjavik on Friday which seems more on a par with Uk forecast

A friend of mine is tour guide with a school party there now. They were on the road from the Black Beach this afternoon, I was there in glorious conditions 3 years ago so this is extreme, as this pic shows!!

The school party she’s touring have been confined to their hotel tomorrow!

  8. The wind here in the Surrey Hills has suddenly picked up again... wasn’t expecting that...

On a completely non-weather related subject  that might be of interest to some....

As a sufferer if psoriasis I’ve found that eating white bread is not a good idea... however, eating wholemeal with seeds in actually helps the condition. After many months of trying the many different brands/ fresh baked in store I can safely say that Sainsbury’s Harvest Grain store baked definitely helps and is the best no matter which store you get it from.... is also consistently tasty bread!! Is also the only one that seems to alleviate my psoriasis, in conjunction with other things like cod liver oil tablets containing multi vitamins....

Anyway, sorry for the vastly off topic contribution

The gusts are definitely strengthening here (just to the south of Dorking town centre). The longest side of my building (first-floor maisonette) is SSW facing so getting a bit of a battering.

Definitely picked up again, there was a lull for about half an hour. Up here in the Surrey Hills between Holmbury and Leith Hills, facing directly into the oncoming...I suspect a battering will happen!!
