  6. Cleveland Volcano Continues To Erupt- Update Alaska's Cleveland volcano in the Aleutian Islands is continuing to erupt. The Alaska Volcano Observatory said Friday that low-level eruptions continue to occur inside the volcano located on a remote, uninhabited island 940 miles southwest of Anchorage. The volcano's lava dome in the summit crater was destroyed during a short explosive eruption on Wednesday. The resulting ash cloud reached about 15,000 feet above sea level. It was the third lava dome that has been destroyed by explosive events since the eruptions began in July 2011. http://newsminer.com...ow_left_bullets
  7. Alert By Mild Geomagnetic Solar Storm The sun woke up today after a week of low activity and forced the space weather researchers to launch a mild geomagnetic storm warning. At 9:91 UTC, the center of space weather forecasting, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) indicated that a geomagnetic storm will primarily affect polar latitudes to 65 degrees. He warned that this will cause energy fluctuations and will be visible aurorae at high latitudes of Canada and Alaska. The geomagnetic solar storm will last until 16 hours. http://atraccion1982-prophecies.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/alert-by-mild-geomagnetic-solar-storm.html

  9. Colombia Prepared For Possible Volcanic Eruption Authorities in central Colombia remain completely calm in the face of a potential volcano eruption, saying they are highly prepared, local media reported Friday. The Mayor of Manziales, Jorge Eduardo Ruiz, said a 24 hour patrol and alarm system meant residents living near the Nevado del Ruiz volcano should not be afraid, despite the orange eruption alert currently in place. Last month, experts reported plumes of smoke and sulfur dioxide emissions coming from the volcano, whose last eruption in 1985 killed around 25,000 people. The Los Nevados national park, which usually receives around 20,000 visitors during Holy Week, was closed and 17 municipalities were put on orange alert. However Ruiz reassured residents Friday, saying emergency services were patrolling 24 hours a day and an excellent alarm system was in place. Colombia's National Risk Director Carlos Ivan Marquez said all municipalities which could be affected by the volcano had activated contigency plans in conjunction with the government. He said the government was communicating daily with local residents about volcanic activity and what protective measures they should take, on the basis of information from the National Geological Service. http://colombiarepor...o-eruption.html

  11. Dangerous Colombia Volcano May Erupt Soon - Update Colombia's snowcapped Nevado del Ruiz volcano has lately shown signs pointing towards an immanent eruption. An "Orange" alert has been posted, meaning that the volcano could erupt within days to weeks, the Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report web page said on Thursday. http://www.accuweath...lcano-may/63697
  12. Small, Short Explosion Rocks Cleveland Volcano In Aleutians The Alaska Volcano Observatory says a small explosion at Cleveland Volcano in the Aleutian Islands may have sent up a small ash cloud. Clouds prevented satellite observation of an ash cloud. The observatory says the explosion at 1:12 p.m. Wednesday was of short duration and similar to small events in December. Those explosions created ash clouds that dissipated quickly and did not affect air traffic. Cleveland Volcano is a 5,675-foot peak on an uninhabited island 940 miles southwest of Anchorage. Scientists detected the explosion on distant infrasound seismic networks. Infrasound refers to frequencies below what can be heard by the human ear. Scientists say that if a larger explosion occurs that sends ash more than 20,000 feet high, the eruption should be detected by seismic, infrasound or lightning networks. http://www.thenewstr...-cleveland.html
  13. Significant Increase In The Activity Of The Volcano Nevado Del Ruiz, Colombia Nevado del Ruiz seems to be getting closer to a new eruption. INGEOMINAS reports that during the last week, there has been a significant increase in the activity of the volcano, which can be summarized as follows: - From March 27, there have been phases of volcanic tremor pulses related probably to deep magma movements. - Since the last week, there were seismic signals interpreted with rock fracturing, i.e. dike intrusions, located west of the active crater. Similar seismic activity was observed prior to the eruptions in November 1985 and September 1989, although this time it is less energetic. - On March 29 at 10:54 local time, for a period of 25 minutes, there were over 135 earthquakes located south of Arenas crater at a depth of about 4 km. - From 04:00 am local time on 31 March, there has been a significant increase in seismicity of events associated with fluid movements and fracturing of rock located in the active crater. - SO2 emissions continue at high levels. According to the diagnosis made so far, INGEOMINAS expects an eruption in the coming weeks, but smaller in size than those in November 1985 and September 1989. http://www.volcanodi...z-Colombia.html
  14. Ambrym Volcano (Vanuatu) Activity Update: Lava Lakes Still Active Ambrym (Vanuatu) is showing signs of activity. After a longer period of silence on Modvolc, a strong thermal signal is again visible at Marum and Benbow craters on the MODIS Global Hot Spot monitoring tool from the University of Hawaii (ModVolc). It is difficult to obtain reliable information about the lava lakes of Ambrym during cyclone season (November until March). Often, large clouds cover the island, which makes visual observations hard. Also, our local contacts rarely climb the volcano during cyclone season. http://www.volcanodi...ill-active.html
  15. El Hierro Has Nine Earthquakes Of Between 1.5 And 2.7 Degrees CANARY ISLANDS - IRIN volcano monitoring network monitoring 24 hours of National Geographic Institute (IGN) has recorded this Sunday on the island of El Hierro two earthquakes of 1.7 and 2.7 magnitude on the Richter scale. The largest of the earthquakes, recorded at 22.03 hours, occurred southwest of the town of El Pinar. This event was located at sea 15 kilometers deep. The second quake also occurred southwest of El Pinar at 20.36 hours, to 13 km depth and epicenter in the sea. Since last March 24, the island of El Hierro has been nine earthquakes, including this Sunday, between 1.5 and 2.7 °. Of these, none has come to be felt by the population and is located west of Frontier and southwest of El Pinar, 10 and 29 kilometers deep. On the other hand, the team ICTJA-CSIC and the IGN, with the support of the vessel and crew of the Maritime Rescue Adhara Salvamar, yesterday obtained images of the volcano of La Restinga. The images illustrate the degassing process in the area of the volcano, which is sometimes also observable on the surface. You can also see the contours of the building and volcanic cone, with numerous points of emission. The images were obtained at depths between 100 and 150 meters. The reddish sometimes observed reflections are due to particles of the camera and lighting effects of elevated temperatures on the elements of the camera. http://www.laopinion...dos/405625.html (Translated)

  22. Earthquakes North Of White Island - New Zealand This is related to my previous post Three earthquakes, the largest measuring magnitude-4.8, have been recorded near volcanic White Island within half-an-hour each other. GNS Science reported a 4.8 quake at 4.08pm, 110km north of White Island, which sits off New Zealand in Bay of Plenty. A second quake, measuring 4.7 struck at 4.24pm, followed by a 4.1 quake at 4.30pm. All three quakes were shallow, with the focal depth of each quake being measured at between 3km to 6km. The first two tremors were reportedly felt in Coromandel. White Island, New Zealand's largest volcano, last erupted in 2000. GNS Science could not immediately be reached for comment on whether the earthquakes might affect volcanic activity on the island. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/6675359/Earthquakes-north-of-White-Island
