  1. Where have all the clever people gone?? Hurry back from your NYE celebrations...you can't leave me in charge of interpreting the model output!!
  2. What in the charts indicates whether or not there will be precip/snow or any other weather type? As a newbie I get confused as to what causes differences of opinion on these type of charts, especially as I just see it as pressure/temp. (Sorry if I am asking a really dumb Q ).
  3. My hunt for the cold is over - it's ruddy freezing out there! I am supposed to be off out watching the Geminids tonight and current temp reads 2.6C, (apparent temps 0.3C). North Hants. It feels positively Arctic.
  4. Hi Steve, Another lurker/learner here enjoying your posts. I like some shorter term focus as it still seems to me that surprises are possible: if nothing else, I have learnt that the weather remains a tad unpredictable Thanks to ALL who share their knowledge here, much appreciated.
  5. What is the difference on uk weather impacts between a split and a displacement?
  6. Not sure if I am allowed/supposed to post this MetOffice link in here, but I found it really helpful (as a newbie) as in introduction to ensembles and also as a useful explainer for the current model watching issues. Hope it might help others https://bit.ly/2TsrbVj
  7. Forgive the newbie question, but what is the ideal sea temp for snow? I started weather watching about a year ago and understand warmer SSTs help create snow. Is it the temp itself that is important, or just in relation to upper air temp?
  8. I've watched it twice now - and try to contain my excitement at the cold potential . I know it's all months away but it does keep my meteorological education enthused.
  9. Thunder and lightning over Fleet/North Hampshire...and plenty of the wet stuff too.
  10. BBQ in garden and in rolled the clouds and a couple of deep rumbles. About 15 mins of reasonable rain. North Hampshire.
  11. And I was in half a mind to get in the car and the other half to sleep...I'll give it another 20mins or so then I'm gonna get all decisive. Maybe.
  12. Certainly looks interesting now ... might have to get prepped for a drive.
  13. Oh. Again. Out of interest...can you tell that from the radar or are you checking other models too?
  14. Glad it's not my 'novice' status leading me awry and I'm not alone in thinking the signs seem to be about. North Hants not expecting anything today and yet it feels ripe. Warm and sunny blue skies, low level convection building all around with humidity 76% and DP 17.1. Feels much more like something could happen than previous few days.
  15. And here on the northern edge it's grey, lumpy and a bit ploppy rainy.
  16. BLIMEY! Pelting drops just fell out of the sky here! Made me blimmin' jump out of skin (in conservatory!) And it's really going some...thought the roof was going to give way. Yikes!
  17. Showers just started in Fleet. Temp 22.4, dewpoint 17.7 and humidity 75%: grey and overcast with bright spots. Can't see much excitement cloud wise but what does everyone else think my chances are for a bit of a chase tonight?
  18. @LukeyG It is growing and spreading .. seems to have stopped 'bubbling' and I don't know if that is a good sign or a bad sign
