  1. I think you are right......we actually have one of the best climates in the UK...certainly one of the most interesting. I take great pleasure in its variety.
  2. I am from this area.........grew up here and came home because I preferred the weather and the slower pace of life. Summers in Poole and Bournemouth were often so hot and humid....... bordering on being very uncomfortable some years. Having said all that the summer of 2009 was perfect up here...
  3. I lived in Dorset on the coast for 35years and believe me an inch of snow causes major chaos!!!LOL The worst period was the heavy snow of the 81/82 which caused power cuts and shortages.....roads were shut for days.......a nightmare. Seriously, they are not geared up for snow and in the south have very little salt and grit in stock for any such event. People panic at a flurry because they rarely see it.
  4. I am sure they will tell us it is due to Global Warming!!
  5. Morning folks. -4C and no further snow since yesterday afternoon.....when about an inch fell. Amazing the track of showers run down to the west of Inverness and anything to the east is further east. Still there is the chance of more showers until Friday when High Pressure builds and we have a very very cold quite quiet spell. Then we get a blast from Siberia........its been an incredible winter so far. Has all the snow melted in the town Pete?? We have had a very slow thaw for two or three days with temps just above freezing during the day.
  6. Good morning everyone. -0C with a further dusting over night with more showers forecast for later today. I wonder if modern homes are able to cope with such quantities of snow? Four conservatories have collapsed and the guttering of many houses have come down due to the weight of snow and ice! I cannot ever remember seeing this in the past but I guess metal gutterings were used in years gone by and now they are plastic and cant bear the weight!!
  7. -4C at the moment. A front coming down tomorrow afternoon will no doubt give many of us a spell of snow with following showers, but no sign of any let up over the next seven days!! More sub zero temperatures to come I fear. I love the snow, but roads can be quite unforgiving when the snow and slush freezes becoming rutted and icy. Burst water mains are also a real threat. Water ways freezing over and birds are desperately looking for water to drink............ so please don't forget to put water out of the birds folks, they need water as much as food.
  8. We had a slow steady drip all day yesterday and although froze during the night is already dripping slowly. Only a cm during the night and a very light snow coming down now. Hi Catch, These Fax charts you posted show the fronts only making a 200 mile movement in 24 hours so fairly slow I would think.......Mountains will certainly take a further pasting.
  9. Let GB stay south of the border!! Wouldn't want him to come and visit. I AM a cynic!!
  10. We have had a plough up here twice this morning. The A9 is meant to be covered by Transerv not Highland Council and hasnt been touched some days! The Scottish Executiveas takes responsibility for motorways and all purpose trunk roads in Scotland.
  11. Around 60cms of lying even snow with 4 foot banks of snow at the side of the road and path ways.......although we have had many heavy showers giving up to 8cms a time, it gradually compacts and settles. Amazingly the roofs are all very heavily laden with snow and it does make me wonder what sort of weight they will take!
  12. Nice over the holiday period but seriously worried if the forecast warning for tuesday comes off!!! Widespread disruption methinks There is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting parts of Scotland, northern England and eastern England during Tuesday. Snow showers are likely to become heavy and frequent at times giving further falls of several cm in many areas, with the potential for over 20cm locally.
  13. This pic was taken at 8.45am today......sorry about the flash reflection on the window(taken from inside)...... Plough has been through twice now......so better.
  14. Happy New Year folks. Raining down in Inverness???? Surely not, could it be a Scotch haze......LOL. It never fails to amaze me that even a 100 foot can make a difference and quantity. Neighbours are becoming thoroughly fed up with having to dig their cars out! A further dumping has been had in this area and continuing to snow. The radar is invaluable as a weather watcher and you can see what is on its way! Enjoy
  15. Inverness has made the BBC News after two weeks of astounding weather. It has been a strange evening......we have had light snow, heavy snow, thick fog and even froze for a short while! Yes the little piece of punctuation in the north sea is going to be responsible for a few more showers yet I feel. A very happy New Year to one and all.........
  16. Dropped back to freezing point. Snow has been persistant and at times heavy. We have another 6 inchesof fresh snow since this morning. Celebrations at Northern Meeting Park in Inverness have had to be cancelled due to heavy snow. Just come from Inverness and A9 was blocked as was Drumossie Brae with cars abandoned and skidding on the hill. Got through only because we were in a landrover, condidtions now absolutely horrendous. I love the snow but do hope people get home safely.
  17. That looks like the predicted snow for the north and east of Scotland tomorrow!!! I do believe we may be in for quite a dumping from it. Hope it doesn't spoil any outdoor activities tomorrow night........wrap up folks:cold: Temps sitting at 2C and a heavy shower of snow and hail at the moment.
  18. Many Congratulations to you and Mrs Catch!! Wonderful news.
  19. -5C and freezing fog has just lifted!!! Further 2 or 3cms of snow during the night Nice streamer running up the Cromarty and Dornoch Firth. Wil it come south just a tad to give us some more showers?
  20. Phew............that was a duff reading from me!!
  21. Fingers crossed arms crossed and legs crossed...........but i fear temps are rising. Dalcross -8C and my garden now -9C:crazy:
  22. Fingers crossed arms crossed and legs crossed...........but i fear temps are rising. Dalcross -8C and my garden now -9C:crazy:
  23. Yes..............nice little spell of snow coming up for you. I'm jealous!!! As Mr Tattum said earlier........we only get a shower every 12 or 24 hours.
