  1. Probably very unlikely this year with how wet it has been. I’d imagine a maximum of between 31-34.C this year.
  2. Don I loved winter 2020/21 it was brilliant. Best winter since 2009/10. Very heavy snow in mid January and very low temperatures then over a foot of snow in the second week of February and temperatures got to as low as -18.C for me. Then the final week of February turned spring like with sunshine and temperatures in the low teens. It was almost a perfect winter for me.
  3. Sunshineandshowers84 I remember the pubs reopening in Scotland. Saturday the 1st May is when I first went out and I remember sitting outside in torrential rain and howling wind with about two jumpers and a big winter coat and still being freezing. Best thing was the pub we went to was at capacity would never happen under normal circumstances. Think it was only about 5 or 6.C that evening I went out, would’ve been like sitting outside in January, but things you do for a good pint.
  4. What’s everyone’s memories on this exceptionally cold spring? Did you love it or hate it, I loved it at the start but it went on way way too long. March 2013 actually started very springlike with some very sunny and dry weather and temperatures very respectable in the low teens this wasn’t to last however and by the 9th the weather shifted to a very cold east or north easterly pattern bringing some very cold, snowy weather. From the 9th we had our first snowfall and the month never recovered being exceptionally cold and dull. The average maximum for me was only 4.3.C and that was 5.C below average and a whole 9.C colder than March 2012’s. We had a big dumping of snow on the 10th with minima getting close to -10.C and biting raw easterly winds. Aside from that and a spell between the 21st-25th we had very little snow just constant strong easterly winds which dragged in a lot of cloud and was probably the coldest I have ever felt in March. The snow was nice at the start but after it just dragged on and on. April 2013 started very cold but unlike March the winds died down a little bit and it was a lot sunnier, there was some very cold nights in the first week with some hard frosts but equally plenty of sunshine and dry weather even though temperatures struggled to rise above mid single figures. From the 11th the nagging easterly winds finally relented and we finally got a little bit warmer but more unsettled and showery. From the 16th-20th it was briefly dry, sunny and warm with temperatures brushing the high teens before turning a bit cooler and unsettled again with this time some quite strong winds and showers which continued until the months close. April 2013 was cold but not as cold as 2012 and was slightly drier and sunnier than average for me. May 2013 was quite a cool, wet and dull month overall but had the best of the warmth, from the 7th-9th it briefly turned warm and sunny with temperatures exceeding 20.C for the first time of the year. By the 11th temperatures plummeted rapidly and there was a couple of days where the maxima failed to rise above 10.C. It remained like this until the 20th where for two days it was warm but quite cloudy, before once again it turned cooler and unsettled before a warm and sunny weekend on the 25/26th. Before once again turning cool and wet for the bank holiday and then again turning warm and sunny for the months close. A very cold spring which ended up being quite a boring and long season, what can you remember about it?
  5. I had a pretty good summer in 2005. It wasn’t in the same league as some of the best ones but it was still very decent. June 2005 was probably the worst month of that summer but it wasn’t all bad, temperatures were slightly above average even if it was a bit duller than normal. The first half was quite cool and unsettled but the second was warm and settled with some good sunshine. July 2005 was actually my driest July on record by some way. I recorded less than 15% of average rainfall. It started quite cool and dull but then from the 7th-22nd it was very good, with some very warm temperatures peaking at a high of 30.1.C on the 11th. Would’ve been the hottest temperature since 1995 locally. It was very sunny during this period as well. From the 22nd the weather deteriorated but it remained very dry but it was also very dull and cool, there was a high of just 13.9.C on the 27th here. August 2005 was generally quite warm and dry with slightly above average sunshine, there was some good warm weather again in the second week in with temperature consistently in the mid 20’s. The weather got a little bit worse after that but it improved into the final week and it turned into a very decent start to September as well.
  6. Addicks Fan 1981 August 1993 was probably slightly colder still but I would say that August 2007 was perhaps maybe slightly wetter and duller overall. I think northern Scotland had a very wet August 2007. Summer 1993 was probably a much better summer than 2007 purely because the June and July that happened in 2007 was one of the worst.
  7. CryoraptorA303 I was one of those people that really enjoyed summer 2021 and was lucky with the weather. It wasn’t a summer that broke any records and overall it actually wasn’t that much sunnier nor drier than average but it was generally consistently warm with no real heat. I’m in central Scotland and I do feel Scotland had the best weather that summer out of anywhere in the UK. Especially in the west where I believe it was probably one of the best summers on record. June was generally dry and sunny with reasonable temperatures but never exceeded 25.C yet the maxima was 1.C above average. July had a little bit of a unsettled spell at the start and the last week was a bit cool and wet but it had a cracking two week spell of warm sunshine and virtually no rain during the middle of the month. August was quite unsettled in the first half but there was still a good amount of dry weather in between and the second half was superb with some glorious late summer sunshine once early morning mist burned off. Definitely was a big north/south divide that summer, a bit similar to 2020 where the south had some very hot, sunny weather, whereas the north bore the brunt of the worst weather. August 2020 was one of my worst summer months recorded.
  8. LetItSnow! did Scotland not have a very harsh winter during 1984/85 as well but winter 2010 is definitely the hardest I’ve seen.
  9. Scorcher I do think Scotland, North and west England had a better May 2018, even 2017 was probably slightly better than 2020. The first week for me was quite warm and sunny but nothing spectacular. Temperatures around the high teens, two days I think it just scraped 20.C. Then we had a northerly blast about the 9th which while it did bring quite a lot of sunny and dry weather it was cold and we even had a couple of frosts during that time. It improved slightly by the 18th but turned a little bit more unsettled before the final week came and we had some very warm weather with temperatures for me reaching the mid 20’s, some parts of north west Scotland came close to 30.C during that spell. Let’s hope May 2024 turns out nice
  10. LetItSnow! Nailed it. 2018 was definitely better for higher temperatures
  11. Weather Enthusiast91 I struggled so much with 2016, the weather always seemed to be too hot or cold at the wrong times and then significantly wetter and drier at the wrong times. Such a frustrating year.
  12. Winter 2010: Never seen a such a prolonged cold and snowy winter was fantastic. Plenty sunshine in between the heavy snow. Spring 2011: Warmest April on record and it was very dry and sunny, otherwise a forgettable year. Spring 2012: Clutching at straws for 2012 but Spring did have that exceptionally warm, dry and sunny March and a good week of warm, sunny weather in May. Summer 2013: Took a wee while to get going but an excellent July, warm and sunny and despite August being dull it was very dry and warm as well. Summer 2014: Had my sunniest July on record, June despite being wet and dull was still very warm and it had a very good spell of settled weather in the middle of the month. August wasn’t a bad month either despite being unsettled. Autumn 2015: A very dry and sunny September and a mild and dry October made a nice change. Really enjoyed that very warm spell at the end of September going into October. Summer 2016: Again clutching at straws because no season in 2016 was especially good but the first half of June wasn’t too bad and the second half of August was excellent, let down by a very poor second half of June and most of July was cool and unsettled. Spring 2017: A very mild and sunny March, a record breaking dry April and a warm and sunny May made an excellent spring. I recorded 31 days of no measurable rainfall between the 11th April-12th May. Summer 2018: Need I say more? May-July that year was absolutely glorious, will probably be a long, long time before we see a summer that great again. Winter 2019: A very sunny winter, record breaking dry and sunny January, a very good cold snap towards the end of January beginning of February, and then a taste of mid spring at the end of February. Cracking season.
  13. Two excellent May’s that both happened pretty recently but if you had to pick what one would you say was better? For me I would say they were both very close but 2018 just edges it out as being slightly better for myself. 2020 was sunnier but 2018 was both slightly warmer and drier. My memories of each are: 2018: Actaully began quite cold and unsettled under a northerly, it wasn’t until the 5th that the weather started to improve. Come the 6th it was very warm reaching the low 20’s and the sun was shining. It wasn’t to last however and come the 9th things briefly turned cooler and unsettled once again. However it was by the 12th that the weather settled down and it remained like that for the whole month and well into June. Then come the final week the temperature exceeded 20.C every day from the 23rd-31st. Never experienced such prolonged heat in May like it. It was absolutely brilliant. There was virtually no rain in the second half as well. 2020 was another cracking May but I think the north fared a little bit worse off than the south. It was cooler than 2018 although not by much despite being sunnier. Rainfall was close to the same however but it was more spread out and there was only a couple of really hot days unlike 2018 which was generally consistently very warm. I can recall getting a couple of notably cold northerly blasts during this month with then a few days either side of them reaching the high teens. I only recorded 8 days with a high of above 20.C in May 2020, 2018 recorded 12 days above 20.C. share your memories
  14. Don’t remember much about that summer but looking back at my records 2002 was definitely a poor summer for me especially during June and July. However unlike some recent poor summers there was still some decent spells of useable weather. Most of June was pretty poor but I do remember quite a warm and summery spell probably around the 22nd but I’m not too sure. The first half of July 2002 was absolutely shocking, probably the worst spell of July weather until 2012, but around midmonth it was very pleasant and quite warm, there must of been another cool and wet spell after then before it improved again before the months close. July 2002 was the coolest, wettest and dullest July I had until 2012. Locally as well it was probably the wettest since 1988. August 2002 was rather wet and unsettled but I do remember it being quite a warm month. I remember the 11th being a very wet day especially. A similar month to August 2004. definitely a summer in the top 5 worst but I would say 2007, 2012 and 2020 were worse.
  15. Addicks Fan 1981 it’s interesting about August 2006 because for me I actually recorded a warmer and sunnier August than normal although it wasn’t exceptional like 2003 and 2022. Looking back at met office data I think I must’ve been one of the only parts of the UK where we actually got decent weather.
  16. My memories 2010 - Was actually quite a pleasant August for me. Generally dry and quite settled but mainly cool, quite similar to August 2007 some very low minima with many nights regularly falling well into single figures. 2011 - A dreadful month, cool, wet and very dull. It was the coolest August since 1993 locally, wettest since 2004 although 2020 was wetter and dullest on record. I can only recall one spell of nice weather and that would’ve been around the 19th-24th. Other than that it was just Atlantic rubbish, the trees actually started to turn autumnal by around the 27th which is very early. 2012 - Unsettled and wet but with still a few spells of nice weather, strangely though the majority of the nice weather was over the weekends of the month. It was the warmest August for me since 2006 although temperatures weren’t actually that much higher than average. Another wet one but not as wet as 2011 and sunshine was close to average. Quite cold at the months end with minima getting close to record low. A brilliant month compared to the previous June and July. 2013 - A very dry month although it was dull and strangely quite warm again. It was the driest August since 2003 and it was also the warmest since 2004. Weather wise though there wasn’t too much heat most days were around 19.C-22.C so perfectly pleasant but nothing unusual. The weather was generally quite overcast though with the occasional sunny day. 2014 - Unsettled and quite cool but still with some useable weather especially in the first and third weeks. Rainfall was only just above average (although northern Scotland it was record breaking wet) and sunshine was around average too. Can’t recall any prolonged spells of unsettled or nice weather, just unsettled mostly. 2015 - A sunny month sunniest since 2003, and there wasn’t a sunnier one until 2022. Temperatures and rainfall were both close to average. I remember the last week being especially nice and it was probably one of the longest spells of nice weather in August. The rest of the month was generally typical August weather; a showery day, the odd warmer and sunnier day and then a cool and wet day. 2016 - Generally dry and settled with some good warm weather in the second half. The first half was quite unsettled following on after July and the second week was noticeably cold after that though it was generally dry and sunny. 2017 - Abysmal month, cool, wet and dull and also quite windy, the highest maximum here was only 22.1.C. There was some very wet weather towards the months close and it felt like early October most of the time with only brief sunnier days. 2018 - Coming after such an amazing May, June and July this August was pretty much bang average. It was slightly drier and cooler than average, the only warm weather occurred in the first week and it turned noticeably cooler by the 7th. I remember the 25th recording a minimum of just 3.8.C and the Sunday that follows there was a maximum of just 12.1.C. Not a total write off but still quite a disappointing month. 2019 - Unsettled and quite wet but the majority of the rain actually fell during the three days between the 8th-10th. The rest of the month was generally quite pleasant with some warm sunny days mixed in with a few cooler days. Had it of not been for the very wet spell in the second week it would’ve been a very pleasant month. The 10th was a very strange day as it had some glorious warm sunshine mixed in with some of the most torrential downpours I had ever seen. Best August for me would’ve had to be a tie either between 2013 and 2016 as they were both generally settled and warm. Worst is 2011 hands down.
  17. Summer8906 my records from both summers. 2010 had slightly warmer maxima than 2009 but lower minima, 2010 was slightly wetter and 2009 was slightly sunnier. Both ended up very similar overall. June 2010 was a really good month being warmer, drier and sunnier the average the maxima was especially high. July 2010 was a terrible summer month but at least it wasn’t exceptionally dull 2002, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2020 were a lot duller August 2010 was generally quite pleasant aside from a few unsettled days but there was a number of very cool nights with minima regularly dipping well into single figures.
  18. Summer8906 2010 was a decent summer for me. A really good June and a decent August albeit rather cool. The July that year was pretty disappointing though.
  19. Who remembers the awful May of 2021? For me it was by far the worst May I have ever experienced. A constant month of cold, wet, windy and dull weather with only very brief spells of settled weather. For me it was coldest, wettest and dullest May on record. My main memories of the month was on the 1st May, the pubs had just reopened in Scotland after Covid but we could only drink outside, it was absolutely lashing it down with rain, was only 7.C and had near enough gale force winds. Looking back think we were insane to go to those measures just to have a pint. I also remember it snowing on the May Day bank holiday and maxima of just 5.C. The rest of the month followed a repeat of mainly wet and unseasonably cold conditions with maxima barely reaching 10.C on a few days. A side from a brief spell midmonth and the saving grace was the end of the month just in time for the bank holiday where it was absolutely glorious with temperatures in the low 20’s and set us up nicely for the summer. A month I hope we don’t repeat any time soon felt like a winter month.
  20. MP-R I think I was. I’ll need to dig further back into my records to be sure but certainly the May’s of 2015 and 2021 were noticeably wetter and colder.
  21. Sunshineandshowers84 spring 2009 was a good season. Enjoyed it very much sunnier than average in all months and it was mild without any significant heat until the end of May.
  22. MP-R I was quite lucky then. May 2007 was a very average month for me, certainly don’t recall much heavy rain until the late may bank holiday. I don’t remember much sunshine or warmth but I’ve had worse May’s
  23. Actually forgot to add Easter 2007 onto good memories
  24. Good memories 2021 was very pleasant here, beautiful sunshine but not very warm think it only reached 12/13.C but both dawned with very frosty mornings like the whole of April pretty much. 2019 I remember being absolutely glorious, Easter Sunday reached 21.8.C here and then Easter Monday was 20.6.C. The Saturday prior to that was even warmer. Absolutely amazing spell of weather. 2017, 2015 and 2009 were warm and sunny ones. 2011 I want to say was also warm and sunny but I don’t remember what the weather was like that year. 2008 we had the heaviest snow of the winter during Easter 2008 Bad memories 2018 We were down visiting family in London and Kent during Easter 2018 and it’s the first time I’ve ever felt truly cold down south in the spring. Good Friday and the Saturday was also very wet. Easter Sunday was dull and dry but very windy and the easterly wind made it feel raw. 2016 it was cold and wet 2013 it was dry and sunny but the easterly winds made it feel like winter Other Easter’s I just remember being typical April days.
