  1. 2000: Controversial but I will say summer 2000. It was one of the driest summers I’ve recorded only 2003, 2013, 2018 and 2021 have been drier. Didn’t have much heat but it was a pleasant summer in the north. 2001: Winter - Cold but very pleasant January with plenty of sunshine, February had a blizzard here on the 4th and it brought some very heavy snow, probably the heaviest snowfall until December 2009. Continued into March with some very low temperatures. 2002: None, horrible, horrible year for weather. No season that year deserves a mention. 2003: Summer - Very pleasant June with lots of sunshine, warm days and not much rain, July was still a decent month despite it being rather dull, there was some brilliant summer weather midmonth. August was a spectacular month, until the last week and that was the last proper good August until 2021 which is amazing. 2004: Summer - Not a summer for good weather but I found August 2004 very interesting. It was a very wet but also a very humid and warm month which was very unusual. Some severe flooding between the 9th-13th. Many villages in Perthshire were cut off, there was a landslide on the A9 and Aberfeldy around 30 miles from me had 150mm of rain in just three days. I hadn’t experienced a month like it before and I haven’t since. 2005: Summer - Have good memories of that summer, it was very dry especially in July. June had some good weather in the first half, the first half of July was glorious the second was a bit more dull and cool but it was still dry. August was quite warm and had a week of lovely weather but it wasn’t overly settled. 2006: Summer - Fantastic summer especially in June and July, very warm and sunny with only occasional rain. August was still quite a decent month but more unsettled, some hot weather in the second week but was quite cool in the second half. 2007: Autumn - September and October were lovely months, maximum temperatures were above average with many dry and sunny days but with cool nights so it made it very pleasant after a poor summer. November did turn a little bit more unsettled but still wasn’t too bad. 2008: Spring - Pulling at strings for 2008 but Spring did have some interesting weather, snowy weather at Easter which was unusual and May that year was very pleasant. 2009: Spring - A pleasantly mild and sunny season for the most part without too much heat until the last week of May. March and April were both pleasantly mild and May was until the final week where it turned much hotter
  2. @Sun Chaser I agree. September 2021 was also a good month, although as much as a love the hot summer weather I do like a bit of autumnal weather come September. September 2020 was perfect for that, we had some lovely warm afternoons but then with the clear skies at night it meant that there was some notably chilly nights well into the low/mid single figures and even some air frosts. Which is what I like, it was nice to finally have some nice weather after such a poor summer. September 2021 was a lot more warm there was a lot of days well into the mid 20’s but there was also a lot of humid nights. The mean maximum for me was 18.8.C and mean minimum was 11.7.C. Around 2.C above average, warmest locally for me since I started keeping a record in 1999. I think after such a good summer I was looking forward to some crisp autumnal days, which never came and then it never came. October and November that year were also very mild. I didn’t record my first frost until the third week of October and then another one until the second week of November.
  3. @SqueakheartLW 2016/17 was definitely the mildest winter I can think of and it’s the only winter I can think of that had absolutely no days of lying snow. There was a few flurries on a few days but that was it. Only for a few days in January there was a cold snap. February had a brief easterly cold snap around the 10th for a couple of days and aside from that it was mild and wet.
  4. @Summer8906 winter 2015/16 wasn’t actually overly mild for myself other than December it was warmer than average but winter 2006/07, 2007/08, 2011/12, 2013/14 were all milder. In fact December 2016 was actually milder than 2015. January 2016 was near average for me and it was actually quite a snowy month although it often got milder and melted quickly so it didn’t last too long. February 2016 was slightly colder than average and had many frosty nights. 2020 is a good one as well. January 2020 was the mildest for me since 2007, February was only slightly milder than average. I think 2017 was more notable because it wasn’t overly wet other than February. January was very dry and March was also quite dry and sunny so it made more pleasant mild weather.
  5. January 2017-March 2017 was a very mild spell of weather from memory. It was mildest winter locally for me on record and probably locally for around 80 years. I only one brief cold snap around the 14th-16th January. February 2017 had a very springlike day on the 20th. Maximum of 14.C and very sunny, I remember a lot of the flowers were in full bloom by the end of February even though it was quite wet and dull. March was very pleasant for much of the month as well and it did have a couple of very warm days towards the end of the month.
  6. @Metwatch September 2020 was a very good month as well and I do rate it very highly. We had some beautiful late summer weather during it especially around the 12-24th coupled in with some notably cold nights it was really good. I actually recorded my coldest September minimum during this month at -2.0.C on the 27th, beating 2012’s record of -1.1.C. It was a really good happy medium of some beautiful late summer weather but also the first of the real autumn chill.
  7. @East Lancs Rain Yeah I didn’t explain it too clearly. Summer 2021 as a whole in Scotland was the fourth hottest on record. 2018 was hotter. In some western parts of Scotland and in a few areas of Northern Ireland 2021 was the hottest summer on record.
  8. My predictions March: (1st-6th) A cold, frosty but sunny and dry spell with some very low minima, widely below -10.C on a couple of nights and highs only a few degrees above freezeing however with no snow at all, just bright blue sunny skies. (7th-11th) A change to some milder weather but very unsettled with lots of heavy shower with hail and some snow across the mountains. Maxima of between 9.C-14.C and minima of around 2.C-6.C. (12th-21st) High pressure takes over bringing much more settled and dry weather, a warm southerly develops on the 16th bringing maxima widely across the mid-high teens with 20.C being reached in a few southern areas for the first time of the year. Nights still remain widely in single figures. (22nd-25th) A northerly plunge develops bringing a rapid change in temperature and snow widely across northern areas. Further south it remains calm but a lot colder with temperatures struggling to rise above 8-10.C and minima widely below freezing. (26th-31st) Westerlies develop bringing a rather unsettled end to the month. A mix of sunny days and showers, temperatures generally around average with a couple of drier days having maxima around 16.C-18.C. April (1st-4th) April begins the same way March ended on a rather unsettled note but still with some drier breaks and average temperatures. (5th-10th) An easterly develops bringing some very chilly weather to eastern coastal areas with some sea fog. Western areas see plenty of sunshine and dry weather with temperatures warming up to the high teens. (11th-23rd) A warm southerly wind develops bringing the first of the proper spring warmth. Temperatures are above 20.C in all areas with the south getting the vast majority of the heat. The highest temperature reaching 26.C in the south east. (24th-30th) Winds veer more easterly again with the best weather in the west and north, while further south and east it’s cooler but still pleasantly warm by day. Temperatures around the mid-high teens but low 20’s in western and northern areas. May (1st-3rd) 25.C is reached for the first time in the north western highlands. Very cold on the east coast with persistent haar. Maxima here of only 9.C. (4th-14th) Low pressure develops and winds turn westerly. Very wet and dull spell in many areas with the west baring the brunt of it, some flooding in Scotland and north western England. Temperatures at or slightly below average. (15th-22nd) The weather slowly begins to improve with high pressure taking charge gradually, very sunny spell across eastern areas but duller further west. Temperatures begin to slowly rise to the low 20’s. (23rd-31st) High pressure is firmly established across the UK bringing hot, sunny and dry weather to all areas. Maximum temperatures soar to the mid to high 20’s across the north to the low 30’s in the south, record breaking heat on the 28th with 34.C reached in the south east. Unbroken sunshine and no rainfall during this period.
  9. Remember that spell very well. I recorded my highest temperature during that spell as well but it was only a rather cool high of 32.0.C, (con of being in Scotland) the next highest temperature was 31.1.C which was previously recorded in both July 2013 and June 2018. Also recorded my highest July minimum which was 18.7.C, didn’t quite beat the low of 19.3.C which I recorded in August 2004. Beautiful spell of weather during a very good summer. Hope to see more of it in the future.
  10. That heat spike of the 31st July was bizarre. I remember the day started really misty and clammy. Kind of reminded me of being abroad, then the sun briefly came out and then it clouded over again by late afternoon but it was still very humid. Like you say I do remember the air smelling very weird. I can’t remember too many humid, warm, cloudy days ever in my area. Summer 2021 is definitely one of my favourite summers. It was a brilliant summer up in Scotland. The sun was out near enough every single day, there was only I think maybe three days that whole summer where it was cool and rainy all day and it was pleasantly warm with only a few really warm days. Coming after a very disappointing May it was very well appreciated.
  11. 2000 - Autumn 2001 - Summer 2002 - The whole year absolutely terrible year for weather 2003 - None fantastic year for weather 2004 - Summer 2005 - Spring 2006 - Autumn 2007 - Summer 2008 - Summer 2009 - Autumn
  12. I don’t remember much about March 2006 but one thing that does stick out is a very heavy snow spell around the 12th-13th. There was about a foot of snow locally for me and probably the heaviest since 2001. I remember some clubbers in Glasgow had to sleep in the nightclubs overnight because the public transport ground to a halt. It definitely was a cold March from memory but other than that snow event midmonth nothing else really sticks out.
  13. Two summers that happened very recently but both had some very different weather patterns depending on where you were. Summer 2020 is talked about in quite a high regard by a lot of people particularly in the south where it did seem to have a lot of good weather but for me in central Scotland it was a poor summer. June had a brief heatwave right at the start and at the end but it was mostly a dull, boring month with some notably cold days thrown it but due to the heatwave temperatures were unremarkable. July was generally cool and wet throughout the month with a few nicer days thrown in and aside from the last day there was virtually no hot weather. August did provide a respite from the cool and wet weather in the first week with something a little bit more settled and warmer but after a massive thunderstorm and flooding on the 12th the weather completely flipped again and the second half of August 2020 was one of the worst summer patterns I can remember. Very cool, very wet and dull many days failed to reach the low teens in this spell. Then onto summer 2021 which I have very good memories from. Coming after a very disappointing May it was an absolute blessing. June was generally warm, dry and sunny throughout with only a couple of unsettled days. Consistently warm without any heatwaves either for example the highest maximum was 24.C which is a little bit low for June but the lowest maximum was 16.C which is the highest locally for me on record. July for the first three weeks was absolutely glorious. Plenty of sunshine and temperature well into the low/mid 20’s pretty much every day. Again like June there wasn’t much extreme hea, highest maximum was 27.C which is a little bit higher than average but even in some poorer July’s I’ve recorded higher. A brief cool and unsettled spell came in the last week which after all the nice warm weather was quite welcome. August was a little bit more unsettled particularly in the first half but nowhere near as bad as other August’s and there was still plenty of sunshine and reasonable temperatures. Then we had an amazing spell of warm sunny weather between the 22nd-29th. There was barely a cloud in the sky during that time after the early morning mist burnt off. The highest maximum was 26.C that month so again nothing spectacularly hot but still a little bit above average. Summer 2021 was the hottest summer on record for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland but in the south it was a much poorer summer. what are your memories on these two seasons?
  14. 2010 - Every season had some interesting weather so very hard to pick. Autumn 2011 - Very mild and mundane missed out on most of the heatwave. Summer 2012 - Just hope we never experience a summer like that again. Was absolutely dire. June and July were cold and wet and even August it continued unsettled. Spring 2013 - The cold and dull weather just lasted far too long. Most of the trees didn’t get any colour on them until the start of May. Autumn 2014 - Boring, dull and mild but with not much rain. Summer 2015 - Wasn’t a total write off summer but that July was god awful. Winter 2016 - December and January were depressing although January did bring some snow but it was mostly very dull and bleak. February did redeem in slightly. Winter 2017 - Another very bleak winter, although January was very sunny that year. There was just very little exciting weather to note. 2018 - Again a year that had some very interesting weather in every aspect season. So very hard to pick. Spring 2019 - Wasn’t a bad season but March and May were both quite bleak and cold. worst year of the decade definitely 2011.
  15. Some that stick out for me: August 2022 - First half was especially sunny. March 2022 - Pretty much unbroken sunshine between the 18th-29th. August 2021 - Unbroken sunshine here 22nd-30th July 2021 (14th-26th) April 2021 - Exceptionally cold nights but there was plenty of sunshine during the day. I can only think of three days the whole month with no sun. September 2020 - (15th-29th) April/May 2020 - Virtually the whole of those two months were constantly sunny. February 2019 - (22nd-28th) May-July 2018 - Say no more, absolutely glorious spell. April-May 2017 - (29th April-12th May, constant sunshine) April 2015 - (5th-25th) July 2013 (4th-23rd) March 2012 (25th-31st) There will be more but for me in most recent times they stick out. I’ve been very lucky I feel Summer 2022 was is slightly underrated I feel. Was a glorious summer not far behind 2018.
  16. September and October that year were very pleasant. Dry, sunny and October was actually really pleasantly mild by day. Both months had well below average rainfall and above average sunshine. Perfect autumn weather for me especially with the colder nights. November was quite mild as well but was a wetter and duller than the two previous months. November here just felt like a bog standard November.
  17. July 2012 was the dullest July I’ve recorded. Only 88 hours, I recorded 131 hours in July 2007. July 2007 did have a brief respite of warmer and drier weather around the middle of the month. July 2012 had nothing but constant streams of rain and even when the sun did come out it was only for a couple of hours a day. July 2007 for me did have a few respites from the rain and dull weather. July 2007 ranks as fifth wettest for me. 2002, 2012, 2015 and 2020 were all wetter.
  18. Worst year for weather by far. I hope we never see a year like it again
  19. January 2014 - Often mild and dull without being exceptionally wet, we just missed out on the heaviest rain. February 2002 - Just constant rain and wind. March 2015 - Bang average month but can’t note any prolonged spell of sun, rain, wind, heat, or cold. Just very, very average with absolutely nothing to note. April 2016 - Generally cool and wet, very little warmth. May 2021 - Least said the better has to be one of the worst months ever. Felt like January most of the time, very cold, wet and windy. Coming after a very frosty and cool April we were desperate for some warmth. June 2012 - Cold, wet and dull virtually the whole month. Very little warmth and sunshine. July 2012 - Pretty much followed the same script as June. August 2020 - Aside from a brief heatwave and a massive thunderstorm on the 12th the month was awful, especially in the second half, don’t think it stopped raining at all during the final week. September 2017 - Complete borefest, dull and cool, not much rain but just very boring. October 2002 - Rain, rain and more rain November 2002 - Word for word the same as October 2002. December 2002 - Very, very dull, not too wet but just a complete bore.
  20. for me locally January 2019 - Sunniest on record for me. Not especially cold but did have a notable cold snap. February 2013 - Third coldest in 20 years generally cold and sunny the whole month, very little snow or rain. March 2020 - Can’t think of any other March’s that were cold and sunny. March 2020 wasn’t especially cold nor sunny but do remember it being cold and sunny just before lockdown. April 2021 - First April I’ve recorded that had a average minimum below freezing, second sunniest on record as well. 18 air frosts I recorded that month. That’s six more than a typical January. Maxima was only a little below average but with many, many very frosty mornings it’s very noticeable as a cold and sunny month. May 2010 - Did have a very warm spell but prior to that it was often quite cool, particularly in the first week. Lots of sunshine during the month. June ??? - Can’t think of a cool and sunny June in the last 20/25 years or so for Scotland. July 2000 - Again grasping at straws but from memory it was often very cool in the first half but dull. The second half was very sunny though. Not got many memories of that month but I do think it was one of the sunniest Julys in Scotland. August 2007 - Coming after a very poor July, august felt like a really good summer month even though it was cool, felt like early May much of time. Very sunny and quite dry though. September 2012 - Definitely the coolest September for temperatures I can think of. Mainly around the low teens for most of the month. Many cold mornings with some frost. October 2003 - Very dry but often very cool and sunny. Felt like late winter. November 2013 - probably one of the frostiest months I can remember. Very sunny most days and very crisp. December 2022 - temperature didn’t rise above 0.C for a week between the 9th-16th. Sunshine in abundance all month. Other than June have some memories of weather like that for all months.
  21. Summer 2021 I think across the west of Scotland anyway was the hottest summer on record. Further east it was still warmer than average but it was quite a easterly summer I remember so it would’ve been at times foggy and cool on the east coast, particularly in July. For me locally the summers of 2003, 2006, 2013, 2018 and 2022 were all warmer than 2021. It was more a summer of slightly warmer than average temperatures all the time rather than any prolonged very hot weather. The middle of July and end of august had some hot weather but aside from that it was just warm and sunny.
  22. 2020 - Probably the worst august weather I’ve seen and that’s saying something cause august is usually pretty poor here Must’ve been at least 4-5 days of solid rain and maximum temperatures around 13/14.C. 2018 - On the 25th the minimum was 3.4.C, coldest August night I’ve recorded locally and probably the coldest since 1986. A maximum of just 12.C on the 26th. 2012 - A minimum of 3.9.C on the 31st. 2003 - A cool last week after it being very warm for the rest of the month. The last week of august 2021 had to be some of the best late august weather I’d seen. In central Scotland it was absolutely glorious. Mid 20’s not a cloud in the sky and a nice gentle breeze. Amazing how further south and east it was terrible.
  23. I remember June generally being wet and unsettled but generally muggy. A few nice days here and there. July was generally cool and cloudy but it was rather dry which was unusual. It turned quite warm and sunny for the months close. August I remember being very warm but also very wet. I remember many floods locally around the 9th-12th. Aberfeldy was very badly effected from memory and was almost completely cut off. There was a few landslides along the A9 and around Perth. It was also then I recorded the warmest night recorded for my area at 19.2.C. Still yet to be beat. The end of august was quite pleasant from memory. A unforgettable but also a strange summer.
  24. I though 2014 was a good summer despite the poor august. July certainly was probably one of the best for me locally. My average high was 22.1.C which is 2.C higher than average. It was also the sunniest July I’ve recorded beating 2006, 2013 and 2018. I have lots of good memories from that summer. I definitely agree with summer 2020 being poor. Definitely was at least for the north, think it was a better summer further south though, we missed out on a lot of the heat. Highest I reached was only 26.C which is still reasonable for my area but you’d hope for a 27/28.C.
  25. 2002 - July was the coldest locally for me since 1988 and there was a cooler one until 2012. June and august were both quite warm but a very wet and dull summer. 2004 - June was wet, July was however rather dry but quite cool and dull. August was exceptionally wet but was a very warm month. A wet and dull summer but a rather warm one 2007 - June and July were both very wet and dull. July was also rather cool, august was cool but wasn’t too wet and it was a bit sunnier than average but a very poor summer nonetheless. 2011 - June was wet and cool, July was the same but respectable in terms of sunshine, August was horrendous. 2020 - June was wet and dull but again was rather warm. July was generally cool and wet and the second half of august is probably one of the worst summer spells I can remember.
