Plume or no plume ... that's just a glorious summer chart for next Thursday. Sunny, settled, calm, low 20s north, high 20s south.

No extreme heat, just normal warm summer weather. As much as I would like somewhere to hit 40c, just to get the elephant out the room I cannot see it happening, models lead many people up the garden, path time and time again. I'm more than happy to eat my words though, but it just looks like a pleasant spell of weather for the south of the UK next week.

Fair enough if that's your thing. I obviously cannot say the same if it's a sustained thing for weeks on end at those temps.

    A few days, a week - lovely.

    A few weeks, a month - death.

Oh come on don't be so dramatic, sounds like a Daily Fail headline.  28-32c is a standard warm summer spell.

  3. Ebbs and flows over the next week regarding a warm up. The next seven days look quite stable, always the best of the temps and sun in the south due to a NW breeze.  The following week could bring something special, more than one model has hinted at this, but certainly not all, so no need for histrionics. For something memorable to occur in the UK all the building blocks have to fall correctly and many people continue to be lead up the garden path, it's like believing everything you read in the Sun or Mail.   Interesting times ahead, certainly a chance of something more impressive than todays 22c with sunny spells.

  4. Absolutely totally bonkers reaction from the media about a warm one day wonder.  It hasn't been especially humid today despite all the trolling from weather presenters.  The rest of the world laugh at us for very good reason.  Yes it has been very warm for a few hours after a couple of warm days this week.  I know everyone is different but to me warm is 28-32, hot 33-37 and very hot 38+.

I'm not sure why the Met hasn't issued an amber excessive heat warning for tomorrow yet?

Because it's not that exceptional.  33c is a decent temperature, but it's only lasting for a day.   The models are struggling next week, but can see a glimmer of hope the south will see some respectable temperatures midweek, with mid 20's and good spells of sun. A good enough start to actual summer proper, but could be better.

  6. The south and south east certainly look the places to be next week if you like decent temperatures.  A fairly slack southerly wafting up humid air and hopefully clear skies.  The big low in the Atlantic looks like remaining in situ, always threatening the west with periods of cloud cover, showers and drizzle. NW/SE split.  It is still only mid May, mid 20's is good.

As ever, we're getting it snatched away from us lol

How you can have something that only existed in models snatched away is beyond me.   People never learn on here.   The next week looks best in the south and SE with temps in the low to mid 20's. Away from the warmth the UK looks decidedly changeable with plenty of showers possible.

Forecasters did a good job on this one, warning people days before the storm even existed and no doubt saving lives. Still though get some who moan that it was all scaremongering because they themselves weren’t badly hit, ignoring the damage and disruption elsewhere. Some people will always be ignorant and selfish by their very nature.

And they would be the same people who would be first to complain if a gust of wind blew their roof off.

Hi,latest Met office Christmas weather and the run up to January mild and wet I’m afraid in most of U.K.

big turn around from their recent forecast.

To be fair, they only ever gently hinted at cold weather, it was all very wishy washy. If you want a big cold ramp head over to the mad thread as they are still going and clutching at straws.

Maybe now certain posters won't post "70% chance of coming off" for day 7,8,9 & 10 day charts. Perfect way to set yourself up for egg meet face syndrome.

No chance. Yet despite egg meets face syndrome, they then move onto D10 charts for some more.  At the end of the day the weather will do what it wants.  Models are just computers and do not in any way dictate what the weather will do. At no stage has any real cold covered the UK, looked like covering the UK and almost certainly won't. I'd love to be proved wrong and the whole country (or any part of the country)  gets a white Christmas, but the reality of the situation is a small island in the NE Atlantic surrounded by warm seas will always struggle to get any sustained cold.
