Delhi woke up to a chilly morning on Thursday as a severe cold wave swept through entire northern India with a forecast of a likely cold or severe cold day conditions for the next five days in many states.

    ...

Cold wave continued in parts of Rajasthan where Sikar was the coldest place, recording a minimum temperature of 2.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The weather conditions would remain the same during the next 48 hours, weather official

Some people clearly don't understand the meaning of the word average.

It's like saying that is not true that life expectancy has increased in the past 30 years because you know somebody who passed away at 40 something...it's ridiculous honestly.

There isn't going to be a winter for the UK IMO..

Might sound dramatic, but all things considered, i'm calling it,as ever i would love to be proved wrong.

Watch blocking take hold over Greenland by the time we hit March/April.

Its so predictable and utterly depressing.

Seems more and more likely every day to be honest

Can I ask, why are you nowhere to be seen when the weather is generally poor but as soon as the temps creep up, you're straight in here to tell us all for the one thousandth that you don't like it?

This thread is called moans and ramps, isn't it? So what's the big deal?

If you read the "Model output discussion" thread there are dozens of people who keep repeating for the millionth time how awesome it is to break heat records and who constantly root for hotter and hotter temperatures. Why is this behaviour allowed in an "official" thread and frowned upon in a thread called "moans" it's beyond me...  Or only heat lovers are allowed to post?

No. Instead we’ve had disastrous flooding and people losing their homes and possessions.

according to Wikipedia, the ‘disastrous’ moorland fires of 2018 caused the evacuation of 50 homes and a lantern festival to be cancelled.

    Perspective I guess.

I don't think you should go this way, because you're going to lose big time.

Has been proved that heatwaves cause globally more deaths and destruction (wildfires and so on) than cold and rainy periods. So stop trying to make everyone guilty just because they don't like having  like you, constant sun and high temperatures for months please!

Apologies for the subject matter but I think it is useful to know.

Hot versus cold deaths is often an ill-informed debate....

I don't know if any of those who constantly root for extreme hot weather have really experienced that...I am sure they have not. It's not just the number od "deaths" that matters, that's just a part of the story.

For personal reasons I have lived for many years in a country where the weather, during summer, it's exactly what you "dream of" (high humidity, no rain for months, max temperatures constantly above 35°) and believe me it's a nightmare in terms of quality of life.

You can't breathe properly, you sweat even if you don't move, there is nothing you can do (other than staying indoors or napping) during most of the day and you have a constant feeling of feeling tired and headachy. Not to mention the toll that a weather like that takes on the environment (everything is brown and dusty, wildfires, water shortages etc.) .

It's really beyond me how you can root for that kind of weather when here in the UK we have the best summers of the Western world (and hence the most beautiful landscape).

Really and with all due respect but you don't know what you are talking about.

  6. I can see that a lot of people are overreacting to the point of getting ridiculous

We come from months and months of temperatures that were way above average and now after not even a week of temperatures slightly under average you are all complaining and moaning like it's the end of the world...

If you like months and months of temperature constantly above 25° and little or no rain at all during the whole summer you are living clearly in the wrong country. I suggest you all move to some country in South Europe till you still can before Brexit kicks in

  7. The reason why people are very disappointed at this winter is because we have been promised Narnia and tons of snow with alle the "positive background signals" for months.

First it should have been early December...then 'wait it's going to be mid-December'....then 'be patient and we will have a white Christmas'...

then it was 'ok nothing has happened yet but mid January for sure!'...then 'well ok, but from the 26th of January on it will be memorable!'...now it's going to be 10th of February. Then it will be the end of February and soon the winter will be over.

Let's be frank here, like it or not on a scale of 1 to 10 this winter has been a 0. And it looks like nothing is going to change anytime soon. Time to move on I suppose...
