I thought Winters are getting warmer? If thats the case then 30C could be possible during December, 400 or 500 years down the road....  As for today, 20C isnt out of the question.

If, God Forbid, we get to the point where we hit 30C in December, in the UK that means that most likely the human race will be in serious deep trouble.

Winter hasnt yet begun its still astronomical Autumn. True Winter begins on 21st December and judging by a lot of the comments in model thread you'd think Winter ends at Xmas. Its sad we might not get a dumping of snow but lets look forward to record breaking warmth for December.... 20C? 30C? At least days might be warmer than days during the rotten mid-june that has just passed.

20-30 degrees in December!?! Are you for real o what?

    Insane...

What are you on about? There has been snow up north and snow showers in the uk to lower levels in December.

Honestly I am sick and tired of people cherry picking or failing to understand what 'average' means.

It's like saying that is not true that the Swedish are, ON AVERAGE, taller than the Greeks because you know a Greek mate down the road who is 2 meter tall... Exactly like that.

But anyway I saw in the message you deleted that you think that Global Warming is a Hoax, so it's pointless discussing with you.

It's like discussing with someone that thinks that the earth is flat... keep living in your la la land.

But we don’t live in a world of averages ....we have extremes which generates averages .... We will still get snow ....

just not as often apparently ....

mind you, this isn’t model related !

Of course I was over simplifying, but if the average temperature goes up even the "extremes" won't be as extreme anymore, and in this case, barring the odd one, not extreme enough to produce snow

What people don’t seem to understand is. America, Canada and all other places get heavy snow every winter. Even Australia had snow this season to lower levels. So if it’s global warming why is not affecting these countries? Just makes me laugh how everyone says it’s “climate change” when we get loads abnormal amounts of snow, and then say  it’s “climate change” when we get zero snow. What is it gonna be?  It’s called WEATHER

What YOU don't understand it's actually very simple.

If an area has an average temperature in winter of, say, -10 and due to the global warming there's a 3° increase you get to -7, still enough to snow.

In the uk, and in similar countries /areas, you, go from 0 to 3°, hence not cold enough to snow anymore.

What's so difficult to understand honestly?

We have free thinking on this forum, something that is becoming quite rare these days on most platforms.

Please include citation if you’re so convinced I’m being silly!

    There you go

Some people nowadays, not just when it comes to weather, confuse free thinking with denying or distorting know facts.

Global warming is a fact. We can argue what has caused it, whether is good or bad, how to address it or ignore it but it's a fact. Again, like it or not.

Saying that you don't believe in global warming is like saying that you don't believe that tomorrow the sun will rise. It will, even if you don't believe in it.

This isn’t the first time the average temperature has gone up before is it? I’m pretty sure the averages have been constantly oscillating long before human existence. How am I cherry picking? I’m not denying that we’ve seen some records being broken at the top end of the scale. But What about the coldest December for over 100 years back in 2010? Pretty sure we were told in the 90’s that we were past proper winter cold spells. Snow is very unusual for Norway in July and as above, parts of Canada have been very cool this summer. Did you not know that Australia has seen records broken with cold back in May aswell?

I think to generalise that the normal has gone is a bit over the top. This year overall has been relatively normal. Infact, this is the first decent August we have had since 2003 I believe. Most August’s of recent times have been abysmally cool.

You struggle to grasp the concept of average, don't you?

If studies say that on average the Swedish are taller than, say, Spanish that doesn't mean that you can't find a very tall Spanish guy. It's not so hard.

On average the temperatures have been rising globally, like it or not. Keep denying it is absolutely silly.

August 1976, 1995, 2003 were much hotter than normal too. Weather has and always will bring extremes. Norway had rare July snow this year might I add also. Eastern Europe has had a very cool August too I believe. We need to have an open view of climate, and not just cherry pick. Where one place is hotter, somewhere else will be cooler. E and W Europe usually seesaw each other. Back in 2012 we had a very cool summer, whilst Eastern Europe was breaking records.

LOL, you are the one who is cherry picking.

The average temperatures are going up all over the world and that's a fact. And this has been going on for at least a couple of decades.

A snowfall in June in Norway or wherever really doesn't mean anything at all.

Yes. I find you can't really do anything when the weather is below 23 degrees because it's too cold and sleeping becomes difficult.

But for real? In this case I suppose you can never do anything in this country and your are constantly sleep deprived.

Dubai would be a better choice for you

Well wouldn't say summer is over but if you want a summer with heatwaves and plenty of days with glorious sunshine its become clear that this summer wont be it.

To be honest, the kind of summer you describe is not our British summer and I don't think it will ever be. If you expect something like that you set yourself up for disappointment.

Like someone else has written our small island is neither Dubai nor Siberia.

Ahhhhhhhh. So much fresher now. Currently 18° with 85% humidity and a gentle westerly breeze. Can hear seagulls in the distance. Feels like being at the seaside with that lovely fresh cool moist Atlantic air. Still feels comfortable outside in shorts and a tee, bet some Londoners would be freezing at that temperature, seems like anything below 25 is chilly for them...

    Lol, very true.

It's quite nice to sit outside in the garden, enjoying the peace, the cool breeze, the smell of the soil after the rain... Rather than suffering from heat and humidity. It really feels like I can breathe again!

Crikey, looks like autumn arrives next week. Time to start thinking about the Christmas shopping.

    That's a bit of a overreaction...

I mean we had a few days of temperatures way above average, now we are going to have a few below average. It's a way for the nature to restore balance

I know I might be in the minority here, but I would love it if just for once we had a summer where no where managed to reach 30°C in the UK. Can't remember when that last happened. Every summer we get at least 2-3 heatwaves these days.

I don't think you are in the minority. I am absolutely with you on this.

Lot of folk aren't really understanding the impact our warming climate is having. Take the astonishing Siberian temps this week. A very worrying situation.

A lot of folks aren't really happy unless we hit 35 degrees, go figure...

Like you can't enjoy the outdoors, the garden, have a picnic, whatever if it's 27, can you?
