Absolutely nothing incoming here this is terrible, the wind isn't even all that, dummy spat out, today has been a total fail ,
Absolutely, let's be frank here. Today has been a huge disappointment, especially after all the hype.
Let's hope tomorrow is a better day

I hope we get a load... much as I'm envious, just been sent some beautiful videos from Kent - 30cm level with half a metre drifts!
Just delete them without watching them.

I think there is a bit of disappointment because we were promised (by a lot of so called pro especially in the main thread) something epic , memorable, a 5 day heavy snow event Canada style. So far 2 days have gone with absolutely nothing.
And yes still plenty of time and yes let's still keep our chins up,but as usually the over hyping in the main thread is ridiculous. My fault that i bought into it once again.

Calm down, its literally only getting started, no one was forecast deep snow off that band, tbh the quicker it shifted the better as the convection can get get going, which it is now.
Not exactly true, a lot of people were saying that fun and games would start Saturday night. Anyway we are all in this together, so let's hope that something big and memorable is coming up soon.

What a let down this cold spell has been so far. As usual a lot of hype for nothing.
I went to sleep around nothing sure than when I wake up everything would we white, I opened the curtains and absolutely nothing. 0. Nada.
Looking at the other regional forum it seems the same happened everywhere...

Which low are we are talking about, the current one which is heading through the region on Saturday? Further south and this should aid even more convection, so not sure what the concern is.. also less milder mixing.. more of a longer draw from the east rather than SE.
Think of the outlook as a thundery showery one in the summer when predicting where the showers pop up is futile.
I think you are right, we have been let down so many times before that we have all become extra careful ...

I'm not entirely convinced. The models have been showing EA to get the best stuff for a while. I understand about convection here, but it's never a sure thing. The stuff further south is. They're in a much better position at this stage than we are.
I agree ,the low is starting to move a tad too south for my liking. Hopefully it will be pushed up north...
As a rule of thumb in this situation the more the southerners complain in the main thread, the better for us

Another day, another 2 degree rain. I lost count of them. It's an absolute joke. 20 years ago this would have been all snow.
What a waste. So frustrating after a frustrating year and on top of a new lockdown starting today. We are living s h i t t y times indeed.
I throw the towel. Goodbye to everyone who has the stomach to cope with this crap. See you in a few months Maybe

I'm not sure why people are so downhearted, there was definitely chips of ice in the heavy rain last night. I for one won't be forgetting The Great Easterly Of 2021 in a hurry.

Think that's exactly what's needed. 1 to 5 day model Discussion for more in detail accurate forecasts, and a 5 day to fi model Discussion for potential.
The storm we just had was a perfect example. Hardly any discussion of what would happen at ground level. Then all of a sudden we have a storm on our doorsteps with 80mph gusts along the south without realising or any real discussion about it.
It would stop this forum from becoming just the fi chasing model Discussion.
I totally agree with you. There should be 2 different threads, one for the reliable time frame (1 to 5) and another for people who like to chase dreams (7-10 days and more)
I'm sure we are all sick and tired of these BOOM and this constant hyping of charts that never verifies

Meanwhile, some heavy rain in Darlo last night, from a NNEasterly in the heart of winter.
It was the most ridiculous thing ever. If not even a NNE easterly ,in the heart of winter ,at night ,with frozen ground everywhere can produce snow in the north-east anymore I think it means that it's really time to give up.
This damn global warming has really ruined everything.

Yay, at last, all this chilly weather and we have been rewarded, with rain, we are so lucky lucky lucky, lol, and nothing but cloud and rain for the foreseeable.
so frustrating right?
I wish I could move to Canada. Sick and tired of this weather.

Ramping dialed up to 10 this evening on the MOD thread. Interesting fact though is that the day 10 mean has the UK under -3 to -5c at 850.
Now it may be that in the coming days we see amazing charts that are actually genuinely cold but this is so overhyped its beyond crazy.
Yep... it will mean exactly what is going on right now for most of the country. The "beautiful" (I am sarcastic of course) cold rain. Rainy days and 2 degrees. Like not winning the lottery by missing one number only...
The main thread has become unreadable. This one is a breath of fresh air. Remember that we were promised Narnia by some "famous" posters there for the period 28th -29th....

Another day another beautiful 10 day chart
Have a look at what was predicted for today on this forum not long ago if you want to have a good laugh

I think the models are showing a week or so of below average temperatures with some wet snow and sleet but mostly cold rain. A chance of something better/colder in the new year.
As a complete novice, is this summary correct?
Spot on

The expectation, the constant model checking, the anticipation, the ramping, more expectation,.....*opens curtains*....., the reality of cold rain, the bitter recriminations in the Models thread......
Welcome to Netweather.
I'm afraid, this is what it's going to happen during this "cold spell"...

The broad scale synoptic pattern does look good, but I remain concerned about the lack of proper cold air.
I guess we'll know in a week whether it's snow or cold rain.
I am totally with you on this. Of course I hope to be totally wrong but it seems to me that a lot of people her get carried away and overly excited at seeing all the blue colours over the UK.
In reality a -5 at 850 (which is the forecast temperature) is not going to be enough to see snow and for sure not lying snow where 90% of the population lives (big cities, flat land). In my opinion is going to be a repeat of what happened earlier this month: a lot of hype, huge expectations, nice models and cold rain with some occasional wintry mix.
Again I would be the happiest if I am totally wrong.

You do know global warming makes millions of dollar industry and taxes people over in America? Yes I’m a climate denier
So what? That has nothing to do with the fact that Global Warming is real and scientifically proven. People make millions selling cars. Does that mean that they are not real?
Climate denier! LOL
Maybe you are right and I am too gullible , believe it or not I even believe we have been on the moon! How silly of me!

There's nothing natural about this global warming. Or do you think you know better than thousands of scientists whose theories are based on facts, not on opinions?

But it’s always a Day 10 chart, that’s right it’s always a Day 10 chart. A Day 10 chart.
I'm totally with you on this. Every time is a 10 day chart, the goalpost gets moved and moved till is March and winter is over.
It's maybe time to give up and realize that chasing snow in the uk is like chasing dreams and find another hobby. it's just frustrating and I don't get any pleasure from it anymore.
One day I'll move to Canada and forget about this small island...

Proper snow in Darlo as well! About time! The fun has just begun!
