  1. As do the lawns I tend to during the spring. Soils are struggling to get much above 10C, seed germination has been frustratingly slow, and any new grass plants which have sprouted are yet to reach their second leaf stage. Over the 15 years I've been doing this, on average, from seeding to second leaf stage in spring would take 14-21 days. But this spring, I'm looking at 5-6 weeks for a similar measure of growth. Nature doesn't lie, and those localised sunshine amounts from the Met have to be inexact at best.
  2. Bah gawd, just caught sight of some morning blue sky! Crying shame I gotta look out to sea to see a few breaks in the cloud..
  3. Things just aren't improving are they? Sunshine scarcity and no warmth to speak of, can't believe it's almost May. Much more of this and sun chasing in the car will become my thing!
  4. Grit those teeth for one more day. Should hit 17c tomorrow if the forecast is accurate.
  5. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone on the North Sea coast who would agree with you. Spring hasn't shown itself yet, been chronically lousy
  6. Double garbage, when it's bin day, but the wind decides to empty yours early. What a mess!
  7. Someone, somewhere is always getting shafted by the weather on these shores. It's my turn today, with the North Sea clag rolling in just as the sun was rising.
  8. And with good reason. The last twelve months have been really lousy for weather enthusiasts in our part of the world. A chilly spring, followed by a bone dry growing season, a dearth of thunderstorms, and no snow. I really don't care for a repeat this time round. Roll on spring
  9. I shouldn't have assumed that a brew of high pressure and dry air would bring a fair amount of sunshine. The last few days have been damn dreary.
  10. I'm all for some spring warmth, but if it's destined to get cold, then it might as well snow enough to give a proper covering.
  11. Another breakdown plays out with little to no rain here. The misty dampness and drought stress has caused an outbreak of brown patch disease on my lawn!
  12. Only 0.1mm in my rain gauge this morning. Deeply frustrating to miss out on some useful precipitation, but good luck to those of you who are still in the course of this thundery breakdown.
  13. That's a staggering image. The North Yorkshire Moors are pretty much the last green enclave on the eastern flank of the British Isles.
  14. What was the deal with that yellow warning for Thunderstorms yesterday? Were the MetO trolling us? Could really do with some considerable rainfall around these parts.
  15. Few weather stations in North Yorks, Teesside, Durham, Tyne and Wear, showing temps over 100F: WeatherLink Air Quality & Temperature Map WWW.WEATHERLINK.COM WeatherLink gives you real-time weather & air quality data from the largest network of sensors in the world.
  16. Crept over 38c, I'm not a fan of hyperbole, but that's exceptional heat this far north:
  17. I'm only a couple of miles inland from you and measured 34.8c in the corner of my garden which was shaded from the sun all day. Thermometer accuracy is +/- 1°C.
  18. 28C here with hazy sunshine. Is it too simplistic to believe that widespread record breaking heat should go hand in a glove with a whopping MCS?
  19. I've been waiting for the usual downgrades, but those are exceptional temperatures! Heat like that should go hand in glove with an MCS.
