For anyone interested in my ramblings via my blog, I am gutted to report that Grandad passed away at 4.10am this morning. I have mixed emotions - am relieved he is no longer suffering, but am gutted his big personality is no longer part of our lives. He really will be missed - even the bloody doctors receptionist (and we all know what dragons they can be!) was choked up when dad called them this afternoon to let them know.

Words really cannot describe how I feel right now.

Since my last blog entry, where everything was perfect (I knew I shouldn't have stopped worrying about everything!), we received some worrying news. My Granddad has been diagnosed with tumours on his Liver and lower spine. Doctors seem to think they can control the growths with Radiotherapy, although not sure if they can get rid of them all together. We should know more once he has had a liver biopsy and has spoken to his Radiotherapy Consultant.

I am still positive at the moment that he will be OK. Granddad is taking it in his usual stride - announcing that 'if the treatment doesn't work, i've had a good innings' Bless him. He is 84 next month, and he might think he's had a good innings, but we all want him to be around still to receive his 100 year telegram from the Queen! (or King!)

Well, its been that long since an entry (why am I reading innuendo into that already....? Maybe I spend too much time in banter on Net Weather?!) that I had almost forgotten how to add a new one!

Gosh, so much has happended since July, and all has been brilliant. After 2007 brought me to the lowest I have ever been, 2008, and indeed so far in 2009 has proved to be excellent. Long may it continue

I've just had a little re-read of some of my blog entries this past year. My god, I do talk some waffly crap. Apologies to anyone who has wasted a small part of their lives reading it!

Its no secret I am looking forward to retirement. And being bored at work (hence looking forward to retirement) I decided to calculate how long I have until I retire. Little did I know by the time I am at state retirement age, I will be nearly 68! And knowing my luck, on the 5th July 2045, they will no doubt raise the age to 75! Argghhhh!!

Blimey, its been a while since I wrote anything remotely interesting in my blog (there are quite a few who would say I have never wrote anything remotely interesting in my blog) anyway....

Last weekend, myself and Mr Raven went on a River cruise party thing with his work. Had a brilliant time and didnt get home till 4am, something I havent done since..... well, 17th May 2008.

Here are some pictures of London during sun set...

I've allowed myself to be annoyed by a lot of things recently. The main thing is 'self centred, self pitying, attention seeking people'. The world is full of them. Please god, take a step back and actually appreciate what you have for a second, please.

Well, finally spring has sprung - along with snow that settled (well, a decent settle, unlike 2 weeks ago!) Anyway, here are some pics - and a few pics of mini-raven 'catalogue posing' which did make me smile.
Hopefully the pictures should be in this order...
    1&2
    Mini Raven striking a pose

3 - Mini Raven in the snow. The 'Alan Carr' tooth look is because the tooth is loose - honest!

4 - Mini Raven throwing a snowball at me  I enjoyed playing in the snow really - as picture 5 (taken without me knowing) will show......

5 - caught on camera having fun in the snow like a big kid

It has been half term for kids in Bexley this week, so we decided to take Mini-Raven to Chislehurst Caves, which is only a few miles from where we live. Anyway, after getting lost, and it taking the equivalent time wise of driving to the Coast for the day, we arrived at the Caves. Everything was fine until half way through the tour she announced she was scared and she was going to be sick (this was followed by a few unconvincing heaves and coughs). Unfortunatly it was too late to go back (and there was only 1 tour guide) so we carried on, trying to calm her down. Telling her Doctor Who filmed an episode down there years ago seemed to do the trick.
Anyway, it then got to the part in the tour where the guide takes away the parrafin lamps (ours got broken during mini-raven's tears and heaving 10 minutes earlier after she knocked it out my hands) and leaves us all in total darkness for a few minutes while she bangs a drum that echos through the miles and miles of Caves. I think Mini-Raven got a bit scared at this point because she decided to show her fear by doing a rather loud pop-off and laughing hysterically afterwards.
Thankfully the darkness sparred my blushes, hid the culprit, and the removal of the parafin lamps saved a possible downdraft of fire from the body gas produced.

First off, I'm not talking about the tyres of flab I have around my stomach. They will slowly be disapearing thanks to Rosemary Conely's diet and my sister's wedding in August 2008 as will power to loose them.
I had my first flat tyre Saturday night. I was in the car alone, and for the first time ever, left the house without my mobile phone - about the only time in 8 years I have genuinely needed the blasted thing . Anyway, I guessed I had a flat tyre when I was around 4 miles from home. Well, I guessed by the noise my car was making and the fact I couldnt drive more than 10 miles per hour without the steering veering off to the left. So, being a woman (well, a stupid woman who only knows her car is white and is a 'K' reg) I just turned the radio up loud to drown out the noise and continued on my own merry way home. I knew I had a slight problem when I tried pulling away at the traffic lights less than half a mile from home and bright orange sparks from the now disintegrated wheel bit where my tyre should have been started sparking. No wonder the cars were keeping a safe distance behind me for the last couple of miles.
Have to admit, I did start to slightly panic at this point, but without being able to call anyone to rescue me, and only being half a mile away from home, I thought the best thing to do would be to drive slowly home. Turns out the tyre had disintegrated and the metal from the metal tyre thing bobby had started to cut through my suspension.
Still, I have learnt my lesson - I wont be driving on again if I ever get a flat tyre - I didnt realise it could disapear with just 4 miles left to get home
Anyway, Happy New Year everyone - I hope 2008 is a good one for you all

I was fine until about 10 minutes ago about turning 30 soon. I have, rather smugly the past few years thought I was aging rather well (considering I get asked ID when buying alcohol in Sainsburys!) but today, I noticed not the odd 1 or 2 grey hairs that I rip out with relish.... oh no. If I ripped out all the grey hairs I noticed this afternoon, I would end up with half a head of hair left.
Reality is quite litterally setting in I really, really dont want to wave goodbye to my 20s!

This is mini-me's version of sign language. I *think* some of the song is the correct version of sign language, but not sure about the rest of the performance. Your'll notice the E numbers she consumed earlier in the day take effect at approx 1.28 minutes into the video.
Unfortunatly, the poor thing looked like I did at 6 - and even worse, sings like I did too.

My name is Emily, and I am 6.
I would like for Christmas (I have included the spelling mistakes, with corrections!)
    Barbie
    Pritey Shos (pretty shoes)
Poly Pokit (Polly Pocket.... arghh, more mini shoes embedding themselves in my foot, making its way slowly towards my heart, no doubt the day before I retire)
X-Box (yeah, in your dreams love!)
Bells dres (Belle's dress - Beauty & the Beast)
    Angel suit
    Table (?)
    mokcontrol car (remote control car)
    Firey Doll (Fairy Doll)
    Box of Choklat (chocolate)
    Brats doll (Bratzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)
Simpsons game (if by some miracle she gets the x-box) and simpson film)
intendows dog game (nintendo dog game)
    ALL THAT
    Love
    Emily
Have to admit, am rather suprised aged 6 she wants things like an x-box and nintendo game... I thought I would get away with that at least until the age of 8. But, she can dream on for the x-box - she can play on her Dad's one!

While doing my rather tedious weekly shop in Sainsburys this morning (I will get to grips with on-line shopping one day, I'm sure) I made a few observations.
    1) Why do long lost friends discover each other while out shopping and block aisles for 15 minutes catching up with the past 36 years?
    2) Why doesnt the person in front no longer pocess the common courtesy of putting that thingy bobby between their shopping and my shopping on the till conveyor belt?
    3) Why, when the cashier asks if you need help packing (and I answer no) does she fling my shopping at lightening speed and get much enjoyment watching my shopping crumple in a big heap at the bottom of the till?
    4) Why are carrier bags litterally glued tightly shut while trying to act all calm and collected while No 3 is happening?
    5) Why are the fruit and veg section of the supermarket such a nightmare area - with gormless men standing next to trolleys blocking anything I need to have access to?
    6) Why is there always an empty, nearly fully loaded shopping trolley left abandoned in the toilet roll aisle?
    7) Do I have a life after noticing this while shopping in Sainsburys?

I didn't want to say anything any earlier because I was waiting to make sure everything was going according to plan but as it's getting closer and closer to 'that date' I thought I'd better spill the beans - guess who's due in just under 4 months..............................??!! Photo attached.

Well, after numerous cancellations (sp), and general NHS co ck ups*, Granddad finally had his op today to remove the tumour in his bowel. So far, its successful, and he should be out of ICU on thursday.
*missing notes, cancelled operations, missing blood tests, incorrect information - but hey, the service is free! (minus the £200000 (slight exageration?) he has paid over the years with tax and national insurance)
The one staggering thing I have learnt today though is, there are 6 ICU beds in the whole of Bexley, which has - well, tens of hundreds of people living there.... how do they cope?

Having read through my last few blogs, I am amazed by how miserable they are - so sorry for anyone feeling suicidal reading them. I have had a bit of a tough year so far, but the majority of crap has been my own doing; and strangely enough, I dont regret anything. (although I feel the anti depressants and counselling sessions may have something to do with that statement ) Seriously, I have lived my life for me, and if thats a selfish, nasty thing, then so be it. Life is for living, and thats exactly what I am going to do
I've had highs, and I have had major lows - but I have got through them. And as corny as it sounds, it has made me a stronger person. By jove - I managed to fill my car water squirters up without the aid of a man this afternoon - that has to be progress.

Ben, one of the family dogs was knocked down and killed by a car yesterday. He was such a happy, trusting soul, bless him. The only comfort we can get is that it was instant, and he didnt suffer. He escaped by a complete accident, and was making his way to the field opposite mum and dads house. He was missing only for a few minutes as his coat was still dry when Dad found him in the middle of the road, even though it was raining lightly.
We are, naturally cut up by the premature death, but his brother Bill ( - as in Bill and Ben the flower pot men!) seems to be OK so far. Just keeping an eye on him, and of course giving him extra fuss.
I know a lot of people will think its just a dog - but to us, he was a member of the family. God bless Ben (dopey chops) July 1997 - Aug 2007 xxx

Had some good news today. Some of you may know about my Granddad being diagnosed with bowel cancer. He had an MRI scan last week to see if it had spread. Its good news because it can be treated and hasnt spread.
The results came though today to say that it hasnt spread, but the tumour he has is an aggressive form. He's 82, has heart problems and diabetes, but an operation to remove the tumour seems to be the sensible option. Granddad asked what the outlook would be if he didnt have the op, but because its so aggressive, it would have spread to his organs within 4 months and grown so large in his bowel he would need an op to remove the blockage. I know if I was granddad, I would have surgery asap. But its his choice, and I for one will make the most of him being around. I have often said in the past I should see him more, but never do. Now I will, because the one thing I do regret is not telling my nan I loved her when she had terminal cancer. The words where in my head and heart, but never quite reached my lips. The night I wanted to tell her that was the last time I saw her before she fell into a coma, and something I swore I would never make the same mistake twice - no matter how hard it feels to open up and show how I feel.

I know I can drive* a car wearing high heels and platform shoes**. Tonight, however, I found out I can't drive wearing flip flops. Its nothing to do with being cut short height wise by 3.75", but more to do with the fact that flip flops rendered my feet useless. The soles of my feet may as well have been injected with anesthetic. I drove home in bare feet.
As for teeth, mini raven has her first wobbly tooth, and boy, dont we know about it. Its currently hanging on by a thread, being wobbled this way and that. She asked me to pull it out tonight, but I nearly fainted on the spot. Did I really want to train as a nurse?

    Mini Raven: 'Wheres the fish?'
    Me: (confused look) 'Dead?'
Mini Raven: 'I know that, but wheres the fish now?'
Me: 'Down the toilet' (another confused look)
Mini Raven: 'I thought it was in fishy heaven?'
    Me: 'Ah' *cough*
