  1. Home and Dry uses UKV for its forecasting and there's certainly a sleet fest for Saturday I don't trust it but it's certainly interesting to see.
  2. February 1956 would be the dream for all of us in the SE. Bitter cold that lasted throughout the month with a CET of -0.2°C with -3.9°C at Margate and -5°C at Manston for maximums on the first day of the month with the cold lasting throughout. An average temperature of -3°C at Margate for the first 4 days of the month with a daily CET mean of -6.7°C for the first 4 days. Manston & Margate both ended up with a monthly average temp of 0.5°C. Potty amount of cold that will never be seen again in our lifetimes. Good British Pathe videoreel here:
  3. Good ol' diesels trying to power through. No doubt trains now would get stuck by under half of that. Amazing video.
  4. Ridiculously cold temperatures here on the North Kent coast on this day in '87 with -5.2°C in Herne Bay, -3.9°C in Margate, -5.8°C at Faversham and -5.4°C at Manston Airport. Unimaginable maximum temperatures now, especially along this stretch of Kent. That is what we call a true Beast From the East ladies and gentlemen.
  5. Takes some good synoptic setups that we don't get very often to get at least a cm or two on the coast with our little portion from Ramsgate - Faversham getting barely anything in events where others get a good covering. The events of the 12th of Jan 2019 come to mind with slush here and a cm or two in Canterbury. A good ENE'ly causing a streamer is our best bets for something. A little falling snow does me good anyway, when we get it. Hopes up though!
  6. Tweet from Mike Ventrice with ECMWF weeklies that peaks some interest.
  7. This event is certainly notable here locally for the destruction of Herne Bay Pier and the loss of a main tourist attraction for the town. Residents could hear the pier cracking itself to bits during the night with the wind along with the tremendous storm surge being too much for the middle portion to handle, so both ends split off and the eventual middle section was demolished a year or two after. Beach huts were tossed, remember hearing one report that one had gone 300 yards from the seafront. Businesses destroyed along the seafront and immense damage totalling well into the tens of thousands. Not one that will forgotten anytime soon here. 8. Agree with all the posts above. Never gonna be fully nailed on with events like this at this sort of time range especially with so much scatter at such short range. EC46 coming out today so will have to see what that holds.
  9. Good FAX chart for the north, bad one for the south with constant rain in the south for days on end whilst a caking in the north.
  10. Can't help but notice the incredible lack of sun during the first days of this month. We've had the streamer setup which ultimately was cold rain now we've had the cold in the form of fog a good portion of the days with only two air frosts here and the sun practically non-existant. I'd like to order the sun back please on Amazon Prime.
  11. Aye exactly. It takes time to pluck up courage but eventually we all get there with it. I'll have to post in that thread a bit more frequently in future.
  12. There's a reason why I don't tend to wonder in there honestly and it's exactly because of that. If you say anything against the majority or god forbid get anything wrong then you get hurled down a few steps.
  13. People seem to wet themselves with SSW potential if there's a few cold charts banging about at day 10 that never end well. The moment even day 10 changes to a slightly watered down version and they're all in tears. It's potty really.
  14. Very cold and frosty start to the day here. Low of -1.8c and only getting above freezing now. Some pics from the local park below.
  15. Been shrouded in fog pretty much all day with the sun breaking through at odd points. Max of 2.1c and currently sitting at -1.4c with quite the chill out there! You can see in the timelapse how the fog is coming from the W whilst the cloud above it is moving in from the WNW. TLC00018.AVI (1).mp4 TLC00018.AVI (1).mp4
  16. Some more snowflake pics from last night. Not sure how it'll be for the next month or so in regards to snow but post 20th will hold some interest due to the potential SSW downwelling but models can't even get 96 h on board. It'll be an interesting week. Sun starting to break out here this morning from the morning fog with a shower on the way from the east. 0.9c 0.8c dp
  17. Light dandruff here for the last 20 mins or so. Slushy accumulation on some cars but nothing much. 0.0c -0.1c dp
  18. Probably the little trough feature that's on the FAX charts as the low starts to pivot on Friday morning, bringing the potential for some wintry showers.
