  1. Power went out at some point last night. Managed to get into work only to find operations are suspended until its deemed safe to go on site. The forecast snow did indeed arrive.
  2. -6°c windchill with light snow for this area tomorrow morning. Not ideal as the 4WD is in for repairs while the courtesy car is FWD and rocking rather bald summer tyres
  3. Similar train of thought Placed an order for an inverter generator after storm Arwen. I explained to the dealer that I was looking for delivery towards the end of the financial year, so I could put it through as a company expense. I remember being offered a physical machine in December but declined. A decision I was regretting yesterday...
  4. Storm Corrie up next, Amber warnings for severe gales later on tonight continuing into Monday with snow for higher elevations. Apart from the power cut yesterday, the house was sheltered from the destructive gusts thanks to its position on a south facing hill. Tonights winds are expected to be from the NW again coupled with much lower temperatures. Further power cuts look likely.
  5. Another mild day in Aberdeen 11°c, windy with showers am. Sunset across the city from the 5th level of the new Biomass plant.
  6. Bright, dry and calm. Temperature 9°c. More Spring like than mid-winter.
  7. The Cairngorm 2080 report by Mike Spencer, published 2018,is worth a read. The Headlines: "There’s been ~2 °C of warming in daily minimum temperatures (at Balmoral) over the past 100 years. In to the future it is likely there will be increased variability in snow cover over the next two decades (some very snowy winters, some with very little snow). After this global/Scottish temperatures will have increased enough that there will probably be a dramatic decrease in the number of days of snow cover each winter"
  8. Day starts with 8°c, rain and wind. At least the car will get a wash.
  9. Cold, dry and calm. Day kicks off with -4°c. If memory serves, this is the coldest temperature I've noted for January 2022.
  10. Noted -3°c on the car display on the approach to the house around 8pm. Roads are bone dry so no problems with ice etc.
  11. A bright, calm day with temperatures hovering around the 5°c mark. All a bit meh really.
  12. A sunny and crisp winter morning, temperature -4.5°c. The surrounding hills have a decent snow cover in place so certainly feeling like winter.
  13. At this elevation it's now a mixture of sleet and big flakes. Little increase to the snow depth from this morning. Will the snow survive overnight.....
  14. Heavy snow with strong NW winds, not far off blizzard conditions at present.
  15. Looking good Nice gesture sharing those snowy pictures with the "winters in tatters" brigade over in the MAD thread
  16. After a months wait, it snowed this morning. If the Met are on point, tomorrow looks like bringing high winds, snow with real feel temperatures of -7°c. Collecting a few IBC cages from a local farmer tomorrow, hopefully the weather doesn't balls that up Currently dry and cold as the sunsets.
  17. Currently 11°c but feeling cooler thanks to the brisk westerly winds. A bright day has presented an opportunity to air the house ahead of colder temperatures setting in later today. Pretty much every window in the house is open....every cloud has a silver lining.
  18. 9°c, dry and calm to start the day. Daylight beginning to crack over the hills. Sky looks clear, no sign of any fog, could be a decent day.
