  1. 12° and chucking it down with rain. Time to get the barbecue out.
  2. 12 degrees and chucking it down. Time to get the BBQ out.
  3. True, but we've had more than enough rain now to last the rest of the year!
  4. Not exactly offensive though is it? Just an everyday phrase.
  5. Lucky you. Pouring here in east Lancashire! Cold too. ?️
  6. Lucky you. 13°C and jaffa cakesing it down here. EDIT - Lol typed "Swearing AGAINing it down" but it changed to Jaffa cakesing it down. Edit: Lol is someone editing my posts???
  7. Yes and May has been an excellent month in recent years. Often better than the summer itself. Even May 2019 which was a bit cooler still managed some pleasant sunny days with temperatures in the mid to high teens. The last poor May I remember was 2015 which was a cold May but even then I remember some sunny days. The only thing you have to watch out for in May is that you tend to get a lot of chilly easterly and north-easterly winds as they are coming off the North Sea which is still cold in May. It can be deceptive as it can make an otherwise pleasant sunny day feel really chilly. September however is a different story. It used to be a reliable pleasant dry and sunny month and usually saw the return of the sun after the kids had gone back to school after the typical cloudy and damp Augusts that we often have in this region. However, in recent years September has been poor. Especially September 2017 which was awful with a lot of heavy rain. We haven’t had a nice September since 2016, it would be nice to get another one this year. Maybe we will, especially if the summer has been poor.
  8. Summer 2019 was definitely better than this summer though, at least July anyway. The first half of June 2019 was absolutely atrocious but the second half was better. The first three weeks of July were the best part of summer 2019 in my opinion. Mostly dry, plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the low 20s most days. Very pleasant summer weather. I do remember the wet weekend after the hottest day on record when it reached 33°C here, and we had some decent nighttime thunderstorms during the July heatwave as well. The first week of August 2019 was warm, cloudy and unsettled, with a few thundery showers and a warm humid feel. The middle of the month was cool and unsettled and unfortunately coincinced with my holiday to Barmouth on the west coast of Wales where it was almost consistently 17 degrees with a cold westerly wind blowing in from off the sea all week I was there. Annoyingly, the weather warmed up as soon as I’d left and the day travelling home was very hot and sunny. I also had to fight through the crowds in Manchester as the Manchester gay parade was on. The next few days were also very hot and sunny but very chilly at night. Yes, last summer was very wet but it was also a warm summer which kind of made up for it for me. I don’t mind rain in summer too much as long as it’s warm rain. I hate cold rain in summer though. And there was quite a lot of pleasant fine sunny days when I could sit out and sunbathe in the garden. Not many days where I’ve been able to do that this summer, not since the spring anyway. And the rain while a lot seemed to fall in big quantities on fewer days rather than spread out over a lot of days. What annoyed me about last summer though was that it had short periods of intense heat followed by longer spells of cool wet weather. I would have preferred a long spell of fine but not too hot weather. People say that last summer was poor here, but I would disagree because it was warmer than average and had plenty of decent warm dry sunny days to offset the cool wet days. I definitely rate last summer better than 2016 and 2017 which were both very unsettled summers but weren’t as warm as 2019. July 2018 was nice but the heat did get a bit much at times. I found the last week of June 2018 and the first week of July 2018 was unbearably hot. August 2018 was just like a typical August - cool and very cloudy, humid, damp and unseasonably cold at times. June 2018 was the best month of summer 2018 imo which was very dry and sunny but not too hot. Summer 2014 was also a very good summer in our region. At least June and July anyway. Lots of warm sunny weather and not much rain. August 2014 was just cool and cloudy as usual, before the sunshine returned in September and even October and November 2014 was very mild I remember. This summer has seemed to be a lot less sunny and a lot colder than last year. The first half of June was unseasonably cold with temperatures struggling to get into the mid teens. Six days into July and haven’t even reached 20°C! Absolutely atrocious! I’m surprised the Manchester summer index is as high as it is.
  9. Can’t beat a classic British summer holiday LOL!
  10. I think summer 2015, despite the poor reputation, came out quite close to average for temperature, precipitation and sunshine.
  11. No high summer feelings this year sadly. Temp scraped 16°C and it felt pleasant enough in the strong July sunshine, but the temperature has quickly dropped this evening. Currently 12°C with a chilly breeze and cloudy. House feels chilly at just 18°C. It would normally be 20-22°C in July. It’s been a cold summer so far.
  12. If you think that is bad, take a look at Aberdeen: Only five days reached 20C. 13. I don't remember July 2011 being too bad, a bit cool and showery perhaps, but otherwise quite a benign month with some nice sunny days. Summer 2011 was just a very benign summer IIRC.
  14. That's not too far from where I live! Alough looking at the BBC forecast, I'm down for light rain tomorrow, so is Coniston, whereas Crewe and Whaley Bridge are both forecast to get heavy rain. And the wind is forecast to be west to south westerly tomorrow as well. There are quite a lot of hills to the north west of me though, so I would've thought I'm more protected in a north westerly, as well as a northerly and an easterly. If the wind is a moist westerly or south westerly though, I usually get hammered unfortunately. Today has been mostly sunny and we've had a brisk north westerly, I tend to do quite well for sunshine in a north westerly, but quite poorly in a south westerly, not sure about other parts of the region though. 15. It is a bit cool for July, though feeling pleasant in the sunshine and definitely feels a lot warmer than recent days. Currently 16C and mostly sunny with a brisk north westerly here. Probably perfect summer weather for Markyo though, bet he's got his shorts and t-shirt on today.
  16. And the GFS for Tuesday doesn't even look the bad. It's not like we have a deep trough over the country, but as you don't seem to get that much rain where you live, it might not be too bad for you. If there are three things that can be guaranteed in life, it's: 1. You will die. 2. You will pay tax. 3. There is a 99.999999999% chance that it will rain in Lancashire when we get a weather front over us.
  17. With the kind of weather we've had to put with over the week, you'd think we'd have a strong greenland high and a deep trough of low pressure over the UK, like 2007 and 2012 style summers. But no, just a typical westerly flow, low pressure to the north, high pressure to the south, pretty standard stuff. But the weather fronts tell a different story, The devil is in the detail with this kind of setup. You would look at the GFS for Tuesday and think it's not going to be overly unsettled, away from the north of Scotland anyway, just a slack westerly flow, but instead we've got heavy rain forecast and max temps in the low teens, as if there was deep low stationary over the country.
  18. Yeah, there were some pretty lively showers last night, and they were still going on into the early morning, I know as I woke up early. You should be okay for walking at the weekend if this is right. Looks like nice pleasant conditions for walking, sunny spells, light winds, temperatures not too hot and fairly low humidity. Whaley Bridge - BBC Weather WWW.BBC.COM 14-day weather forecast for Whaley Bridge.
  19. Yep, sunny intervals here too but still quite breezy. Feeling quite pleasant in the sun but cool in the breeze. But feels nice to have a partly cloudy day for a change, even if the temperatures are nothing to get excited about! Yes, I liked the thundery spell around mid June, and the temperatures were also pleasant, if a bit humid.
  20. Some torrential rain showers here and still quite windy. Worst summer since 2012 here for sure now. I didn’t think I’d see a worse summer than 2017 but this has definitely beat it.
  21. August 2011 was also a very cloudy month here similar to 2008 and 2018. But August usually is a cloudy and wet month, especially here in the north west.
  22. Yeah, apart from 2018, the last few Junes have been pretty atrocious.
  23. The month was extremely cloudy and quite wet with below average daytime temperatures being offset by above average nighttime temperatures. I remember going on holiday to the Isle of Wight for a week in that month and the weather was mainly cloudy but dry. Basically just a cool and cloudy month. Quite boring, similar to August 2018 which is also a very cloudy month here, but also quite dry, but not as bad as August 2012 or August 2017, those were pretty terrible months here.
  24. Dammit I’m too late to enter this month. Would’ve probably guessed average CET and above average precipitation. I’ll try and remember to enter on time for August.
  25. It’s like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey, almost there but frustratingly never quite within reach. It’s as if they’re trying to tease us.
