  1. At least it's not like July 1988. That month was an absolute disaster. It was the last July to have a CET below 15°C, but even more of a shocker was the maximum temperatures. London didn't record a temperature higher than 22°C that month, Plymouth didn't get above 18°C and poor old Lands End didn't even reach 16°C. It rained every day in Cumbria and most places in the South didn't get above 21°C. It was an absolutely diabolical month.
  2. Yes it’s been unbelievably atrocious hasn’t it? Average max here for first week of July standing at just 15°C. Over 60 mm or rain and sunshine hours probably still only in single digits. It’s reached the levels of 2007/2012 now.
  3. Even the north west isn’t usually this bad in July. Our average July max is around 20°C in the north west region and August is around 19°C, whereas April and May are several degrees cooler on average. Yes it’s a bit duller and a bit wetter than the spring but it’s not normally this bad.
  4. Even abroad isn’t safe from getting crap weather in summer! Despite the myth in this country that everywhere in Europe is always hot and sunny in the summer.
  5. Yes it was and I think that’s why I liked it so much, I like warm sunny weather but don’t enjoy really hot temperatures like 27°C+. June and July 2014 was much the same I remember, warm/hot and sunny but nothing too unbearable.
  6. I think August 2013 was better than August 2018 though.
  7. Not much difference from last winter which was also very wet, very dull and very mild. Like you I didn’t see any rain until mid evening, unlike further south where they had rain during the day. However very overcast and still cool with a max of about 15°C, seen warmer days in October. It’s just like constant autumn nowadays apart from the odd week or two, waste of time being a weather enthusiast in the north west. Currently chucking it down and 12°C.
  8. Mostly dry here too, just started raining now though it’s been overcast all day and temperatures struggling max of just 15°C today. Have yet to reach 20°C in July here and we’re now 1/4 of the way through, pathetic.
  9. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_info_mean.html CET is now down to 15.4°C, 0.3°C below the 1960-1991 average and almost as cool as June’s CET. And that’s taking into account the mild nights that we’ve had recently. Wouldn’t be surprised if we had a sub 15C July this year. At least the cold summer lovers will be happy.
  10. Can’t believe so many people like their bedroom at such cold temperatures! I’d be getting hypothermia! Anything below 18°C and I’m freezing! Since the heatwave I’ve gone back to having a light duvet on the bed and haven’t been able to wear shorts or a t-shirt inside or outside because it’s been too bloody damp and cold! Hoodies and onesies in full swing! I didn’t have too many problems sleeping during the summer of 2018 and I don’t even have a fan or aircon. I just sleep with no top on and a very light blanket in hot weather and that’s fine for me. If it gets really hot I might sleep with the window open but that is rare. My house does suffer from damp and high humidity levels (70%) which does tend to make it feel colder though, and I live in a bungalow and so my bedroom is on the ground floor so isn’t as warm as other houses.
  11. First week of July and my current average daytime maximum temperature (taken from the nearest weather station about 5 miles away) is currently standing at just 15.3°C. The minimum nighttime temperature is currently standing at 11.3°C, leaving me with a mean average of a more than pathetic 13.3°C. I’ve also had 67.6 mm of rainfall (already) and only a few hours of sunshine. Absolutely atrocious and the worst July I’ve ever experienced, (yes, maybe even worse than 2012), it’s going to take a terrific turnaround to revive this summer. Today while it’s stayed dry has been completely overcast and it’s still cool, if a bit warmer than yesterday. The weather is like a permanent autumn these days, we rarely get much snow anymore and the summers are getting worse, waste of time being a weather enthusiast in this country.
  12. You deliberately cool your bedroom to 14c!? Are you a polar bear?
  13. Google Maps WWW.GOOGLE.CO.UK Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps. This place?
  14. Yes it feels like we’re stuck in a permanent spring/autumn at the moment.
  15. People say we’re going to get a cold winter every year though, and it rarely happens.
  16. This guy? https://dkohara.com/exacta-weather-daily-excess-weather-crap/
  17. Yep, and we know that whenever they do forecast a cold winter or a hot summer it never happens lol!
  18. Yep. Summer 2013 was generally a very happy time for the UK. The weather was great, we were climbing out of the recession, employment was on the up and there wasn’t too many bad things happening in the world IIRC. Fast forward to 2020 and we have had floods, riots, the biggest virus the world has ever seen, the best spring in the years that we couldn’t take full advantage of, mass unemployment and absolutely awful summer weather.
  19. Maldives - Wikipedia EN.M.WIKIPEDIA.ORG Maldives being near India has a tropical monsoon climate though, so while hot and humid weather can be pretty much guaranteed, you would be silly not to expect some very heavy downpours. Singapore is known for its hot and humid climate. Whenever I check the forecast it always says 30° and thunderstorms. Whereas in the med you are pretty much guaranteed to get hot and sunny weather during the summer because it is a Mediterranean climate with very little rainfall during the summer, apart from the odd thunderstorm. India in the monsoon season is definitely not the place to go if you want hot sunny beach weather.
  20. I’m sure we’ve had days as cold as this in July before. I remember some very cool days in July 2015, July 2016 and July 2017 for example. But yes it is very miserable and alough we haven’t had much rain here, it has been completely overcast all day, damp and cold.
  21. I usually just use the BBC weather app and Gavsweathervids on YouTube to get updates on the weather. Don’t bother with tabloids as it they just try to over exaggerate everything to get people to buy/click on their newspapers. The daily express is the worst for this.
  22. Surprised it’s that high to be honest. My mean MAX temperature so far this month is only around 15°C. It’s been an absolutely disgusting start to July this year, the worst I can remember.
  23. Going on holiday in the UK is a real lottery. Sometimes you can strike lucky and get weather like abroad – like I got when I went to Paignton in South Devon at the end of August 2017. However you can get cold (or worse, a washout) weather on holiday too, that happened to me when I went to the Tyne coast at the end of May 2018, a very chilly easterly wind coming off the North Sea and thick fog for the first few days when most of the country were bathed in warm sunshine. Also when I went to Barmouth on the west coast of Wales in August last year, was persistently 17°C with a chilly westerly wind coming off the sea. Annoyingly, the weather warmed up on the day I left and it was a very hot journey on the way back home. Whereas going somewhere like Ibiza or Rome you’re almost guaranteed to get hot and sunny weather.
