  1. I think the spring was our reward for having to endure an exceptionally wet autumn and winter - from late September till early March it was throughly wet and almost sunless - an almost six month period. We were even back in May. However since we’ve had to endure a miserable summer the weather has got some making up to do - maybe a warm September/Indian summer or a snowy spell in winter might just do it. I certainly don’t want to have to endure persistent rain and dampness from August until next March. Will feel like having a triple autumn. Definitely agree though about this summer being or worst (or just as bad) as 2012. But even in summer 2012 there were a few nice days.
  2. Raining again and completely overcast. Throughly depressing. Feel like I’m stuck in the house. Would like to go on a walk but I can’t. This summer is as bad in 2012 in my opinion. Cold, wet and cloudy. The worst combination. Supposed to be nice tomorrow, sunny intervals and a high of a whopping 20°C forecast, before more rain over the weekend and next week. East Lancashire has one of the most depressing climates in the world - barely any sun, heat or snow or anything pleasant or interesting most of the time - just thick cloud, persistent dampness and cold rain almost all year round. Like having a permanent Autumn/Winter. We even miss out on the strong winds and thick fog that they get on the coast which would at least make things a bit more exciting. It’s not quite as bad as somewhere like Stornoway or Lerwick but that’s all it has going for it.
  3. Manchester Airport has recorded a maximum temperature this month of around 21°C on Friday 17th July if this is right. The average high for Manchester Airport in July is 20°C. 4. Yes I’ve never known such a prolonged spell of below average temperatures in the summer before. As Frost Hollow said, even July 2012 had some warm/hot weather towards the end of the month. And the lack of sunshine makes it worse. To not even reach average temperatures in any month of the year (let alone July) is pretty atrocious to be honest. Reminds me a bit of July 1988 (though I wasn’t around then). The highest temperatures that month were shocking and abysmal and Manchester never got above 21°C all month. Which could happen this month unless its got above that already. July 1988 - TheWeatherOutlook forum WWW.THEWEATHEROUTLOOK.COM As we bask in a glorious spell of weather, we approach the 30-year anniversary of an infamous summer month. And by "infamous" I mean infamously bad: this was a month that most of us...
  5. Strange that. Plenty of sunshine here since Sunday, though not wall to wall sun by any means with some cloudy periods. Today has been completely overcast though.
  6. That looks beautiful! Absolutely stunning scenery, esspecially with the hills in the background. Most coastline is very flat but in Wales you get the hills next to the sea. Kind of reminds me of Barmouth of the west coast of Wales which I visited last year, but this looks nicer imo. Weather tends to be better on the coast, more sunshine, though you can get chilly winds coming from off the sea. Wish I lived there. Not a bad climate for those who like mild weather year round: Criccieth - Wikipedia EN.M.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  7. Been a mix of sunny/cloudy periods the last few days but today does feel a bit warmer, reached 17.7°C at Stonyhurst at 7 pm. Not that that’s anything to write home about in July.
  8. Indeed it is, feels just like late September. Even when the suns out it struggles to get above 16°C. Yesterday evening the sun was out but it felt very cool and Septembery rather than pleasant and balmy like a July evening should. Certainly not an evening where you’d want to sit out in shorts and a t-shirt while having a BBQ. We’ve had quite a few chilly nights recently as well which adds to the autumnal/Septembery feel.
  9. Nothing wrong with most of those August’s. Plenty of sunshine, not much rain and very warm temperatures with most of them. You’ve just been spoiled. Not a single August below 20C in the last 30 years. Amazing.
  10. Yes, I agree. Even though it hasn’t been as wet as 2012, it’s been the coldest and dullest July I’ve ever known. Mean max currently standing at 15.7°C, what I’d expect in May or September. Still haven’t reached 20°C here yet, and it’s looking increasingly likely that that will remain the case. Will be a first for me if it doesn’t even reach 20°C in July!
  11. East Lancs last 24 hours: Partly Cloudy Max: 16.1°C Min: 8.9°C Rain: None Sun: 8 hrs 48 mins Averages this month (to the 19th): Average Max: 15.8°C Average Min: 10.8°C Rainfall so far this month: 105 mm Rainfall so far this year: 762 mm Sunshine so far this year: 725 hours
  12. It certainly does! Last winter never felt very mild as it was always windy/breezy, even when temperatures were in double digits it didn't feel it because of windy and damp conditions. The previous winter was also mild but actually felt mild because it wasn't as windy. Last August I went to the west coast of Wales for a week, every day was 17°C with a really chilly westerly wind coming off the sea. Even my ears felt cold one evening. Brrrr...
  13. Looks like we could be in for a decent August this year if you believe this lad:
  14. Surprised you got sunburnt. Hasn't been hot today by any stretch of the imagination and the sun that we did get was pretty weak.
  15. Annoying that, would be better if it happened the other way around. Alough we've had plenty of sunny spells here today. Temperatures disappointing though, only 16C max, come on, it's July for gods sake, not September! should be getting to at least 20C when the suns out.
  16. Still dry until the weekend, partly cloudy Monday and Tuesday with chilly nights, cloudy from Wednesday onwards with warmer nights, temps disappointing for July, only 16-19C. BB8 - BBC Weather WWW.BBC.CO.UK 14-day weather forecast for BB8.
  17. Still yet to reach 20°C here this month, and looking at the 14 day forecast from the BBC, it is looking increasingly likely that this July will fail to reach 20°C here. What a shocker!
  18. Okay, my apologies, thought you were serious then! Thought you sounded a bit macarb when you mentioned about hanging!
  19. Haven’t even hit 20°C yet here, and looking at the forecast, might not reach 20°C this month!
  20. We usually get plenty of fine weather in April, May, June and traditionally September. But summers tend to be sketchy with some warm and sunny days interespered by a lot of cool and wet days. This summer has been a lot worse than normal though, esspecially July.
  21. Partly cloudy and breezy with a high of around just 16°C. Temps again lower than what was forecast and what you would expect for September here not July.
  22. Hard to believe that people from London are moaning about the weather this summer, when this is what they are getting: London - BBC Weather WWW.BBC.CO.UK 14-day weather forecast for London. Looks perfect to me, warm, mostly sunny, low humidity. If only that was the forecast for us!
