  1. Ouch! I think I’d rather have a kick in the sack than have to deal with that!
  2. Oh dear. Looks like it will be a cool and wet August this year. WoW. Totally wasn’t expecting that. Not.

  4. Yes it is odd how most of the complaints about the weather being too cool, too cloudy, too windy or too rainy seem to come from Southerners and Londoners (who on average get the warmest, driest and sunniest weather) and yet quite a few people living in cooler/cloudier/wetter parts of the country who enjoy the cool wet conditions and worrying about heatwaves, even though any heat they do get is unlikely to be as intense as it is in the south east.
  5. Indeed. Not a fan of heat but the last few weeks here have been diabolical. Chilly, damp and cloudy most of the time. Don't mind that in Autumn and Winter but in the so-called Summer I expect better.
  6. East Lancs last 24 hours: Max: 19.3 Min: 10.4 Rain: 0.2 mm Sun: 3 hrs 20 mins Partly Cloudy morning and afternoon with some sunny intervals but also fairly cloudy. Overcast evening. Feeling warmer than recently.
  7. For the sake of our mental health and our sanity perhaps?
  8. Sorry but are you for real? We've had an atrocious summer so far and to have a few weeks of warm (not boiling hot) dry and sunny weather isn't too much to ask is it? This gloomy and damp weather is a lot more depressing to most people than heat and sun. Having to wear a mask for 10 hours a day does seem excessive though, so I can sympathise there. Are you a medical worker?
  9. Not so here. Don't have a weather station at the moment but use the observations from the nearest two weather stations, Higham and Stonyhurst, both just up the road from me. Higham recorded a high of 19.3 and Stonyhurst recorded a maximum of 19.2 at 4 pm, though it's only hourly readings so it's possible it could have got slightly higher between readings. Weather Forecasting from Higham, near Burnley, Lancashire, UK - higham-weather.com WWW.HIGHAM-WEATHER.COM Weather reports from Stonyhurst WMO (99060) WWW.WEATHERCAST.CO.UK A graphical and tabular preparation of weather observations of last week by the WMO weather station from Stonyhurst, United Kingdom (99060). It is updated hourly. But still, not quite managed to reach 20C today. The wait goes on. At the moment, my next chance of exceeding 20C will be next Friday, with 22C forecast. Will be my last chance I think, otherwise it will be a sub 20C July here.
  10. Looks nice. Have a great time and fingers crossed the weather improves in August. Pwheli - Bing images WWW.BING.COM
  11. Not at all, summer (for me) ended on Saturday 27th June. I’ve not reached 20°C since!
  12. Considering it’s felt like autumn for most of the summer, we might as well just forget the summer thread and post in this thread instead. It’s autumn for most of the year now sadly.
  13. Partly cloudy with intermittent sun, no warmth though sadly. It’s been the worst summer for lack of warmth and sun that I can remember, even in 2012 I can remember the occasional warm/hot day. Next week looks very mediocre at best, very mixed, temps below 20°C, showers or rain at times, sun at times.

  15. Welcome to the north west of England, drizzle capital of the world.
  16. A few years ago I used to think mosquitos were something you only got in India. Then one night in summer 2018 when I had left my bedroom window open because it was hot, when I was drifting off to sleep when I heard this distinctive high pitched buzzing noise. I was using my phone/tablet in bed and noticed it was attracted to the light, so I switched if off and covered my head with the blanket, then it went away. Have also heard mosquitoes in the bathroom on hot summer nights. Haven't seen or heard any this year. Never got bit as far as I'm aware, thankfully we don't have the malaria carrying kind in this country, otherwise we'd all have to keep our windows closed at night and have a mosquito net covering the bed.
  17. Lucky you(s). Completely overcast with periods of rain and drizzle again today. Max 15.4C... These damp, chilly, dark, sunless days are the worst in what is supposed to be "high summer" (and there have been a lot of them this summer). Still not reached 20C yet here this July. Could be a new (unwanted) record for me.
  18. Yes my April maxima would have probably been very similar to my July maxima had I been recording then. And April was a very sunny month unlike this July which has been extremely cloudy so April felt nicer from sunshine alone. Interesting that the month was virtually bone dry apart from the last three days but still managed 83% of your average rainfall. The south east is like a desert compared to the north west. 40 mm is barely anything over one month.
  19. I suppose the benefit of that is that you won't feel the heat as much during a heatwave. But most of the time you'll be shivering or have to wear warmer clothing than others to stay warm. I envy those men like Markyo who are really tolerant of cold and can wear shorts in winter and have the bedroom window open. I think in this country (especially up north) it is better to be warm blooded because it's cool/chilly/cold most of the time, whereas if you hate the heat, in most summers it only lasts for three or four days at a time and then its over.
  20. Well everyone feels temperature differently. I know plenty of people who feel the cold a lot but there's nothing wrong with them, they just get cold easily. But yes I would be satisfied if I had those temperatures in summer. These are my stats for July. Makes me feel suicidal just looking at them. Apologies if it's too small, I had to zoom out to fit it all in.
  21. Agree with everything you say. Been a complete non-summer here too. Mean max just 16.0C around 3.5 - 4C below average. Have been depressed too. Currently taking anti-depressants but not helping.
  22. I do enjoy the wind but after all the rain we had last autumn and winter (and this summer) it’s time for a change. Fed up of constant grey skies and dampness, I’d like a warm and sunny autumn followed by a sunny and crisp frosty type winter (with snow at times).
