  1. We usually get one or two nights in July where the temperature has dropped into single figures but this July I've recorded 8 so far. Average minimum currently at just 10.9C.
  2. All coastal areas are more windy than inland places, especially when the wind is coming off the sea as there are no barriers to break up/stop the wind. Western facing coasts are the windiest on average as the wind comes from the west most of the time. Blackpool is on the west coast and the wind is westerly at the moment so there is nothing to stop the wind just blasting through. The reason it feels so cold is because the wind is coming off the cold Irish sea. The sea never really warms up in the UK. The buildings behind the seafront help to block the wind which is why it is less windy as you move further away from the coast. Long straight roads that face the wind with buildings either side help to channel the wind down the road. I've experienced this before in my own local area when walking against the wind on a long straight road. It isn't pleasant at all. I had the same experience when I went on holiday to Barmouth on the west coast of Wales in August last year, the wind was a persistent moderate/fresh breeze (force 3/4) for nearly the whole time I was there and temperatures remained around 17C but because of the persistent cold winds it felt much colder. It was never warm enough to just wear a t-shirt expect on the last day.One evening while walking back to the hotel the wind was so cold my ears actually felt cold! I also went to the North East coast in May/June 2018, the wind was north easterly and while the rest of the country was getting warm sunny weather, the east coast got lots of fog and really cold winds coming from off the north sea. Temps were stuck in the low teens. That said, I have been to Blackpool many times and most of the time the wind wasn't a problem.
  3. Aye, it's a problem when living on/near the coast, especially for western facing coasts as the wind comes from the west most of the time.
  4. Yes it felt chilly outside again today and I had a hoodie on, 15C max despite some sunny spells and no rain. Does anyone know why it been so unseasonably chilly this summer? (especially further north). With that temp in mid-summer and no rain you'd think you'd need a northerly wind, but the wind direction has been very westerly this July, which while still cool for the time of year would normally bring temps at least in the high teens if it's not raining. It's been the coldest July I've ever experienced. Absolutely no warmth whatsoever.
  5. Yes, it would be much nicer to get a July with consistent lo-mid 20's temps and mostly sunny than one or two 30C days and then loads of cloudy damp sub 20C days. But unfortunately we have to take what we are given sadly.
  6. 9.1C at 2pm in July!!! Are you sure it was correct? Yesterday was pretty chilly tbh but I still managed 13.8C. I've never witnessed single figure temperatures during the day in July before.
  7. Absolutely hammering it down now. A strong gusty wind as well and feeling quite humid but also cool at the same time.
  8. Same here yesterday but temps only reached about 17/18°C. Also had a few showers as well. Only about 1 hour of sun and 9 mm of rain. Pretty poor. The wait for the first 20°C day goes on here. Which looks like being Thursday with 22°C forecast (though cloudy). Today its overcast, damp and windy and quite humid but not as wet as forecast at least. Edit: Forget that, absolutely hammering it down now.
  9. You're probably right. I don't ask for too much. As long as it's in the low 20's most days with a fair amount of sunshine and not too much rain, I'd be satisfied.
  10. Not even reached 20C all month here, and I don't live that far away from Markyo. That's why I had a bit of a bee in my bonnet about him moaning about one possible 25C+ day, when we've had such a cool month, but anyway at the end of the day, we all have different preferences and don't want to get into an argument or get into trouble with the cat person who sometimes tells people off so I'll leave it at that.
  11. Hi sorry, I did not get to see your full response before your post was removed, only the bit about "throwing toys out of a pram" that someone else quote. Yes, you're right, it is only weather, I guess we should just accept our differences, I like it warm, you like it chilly/cold. I keep thinking about summer 2018. I wish every summer was like that.
  12. Okay, but worrying about one moderately hot day in late July is a bit silly really.
  13. Cloudy with sunny intervals and occasional showers. Temp 18. Pretty standard summer day really.
  14. Cloudy with sunny intervals and occasional showers. Temp 18. Pretty standard summer day really.
  15. You mean this one? Anyway, my point is that we've had virtually ZERO warmth up north and you are fretting about one hot day because you don't like it and it will make it harder for you/others because of having to wear a mask in the heat. Which is silly really because anyone who doesn't like it can just avoid shopping on that day if they want to (or early in the morning or late in the evening when it's cooler).
  16. I replied to this post before but it got removed for some reason. But my point still stands that the fact that you're worrying over one day of 25-30C in high summer is laughable really. We should realistically expect at least one such day in late July/early August even in the north. If you are that worried about wearing a mask in such high temperatures, then I suggest you do your shopping on another day, online or in the morning or the evening. And I bet older folk would struggle a lot more on icy/snowy pavements and bitterly cold conditions in winter than hot weather for a day or two. The former is a lot more dangerous for the elderly.
  17. The beeb has me down for 22C on Thursday and 26C on Friday. With a south easterly wind which nearly always delivers for warmth/heat here. BB8 - BBC Weather WWW.BBC.CO.UK 14-day weather forecast for BB8.
  18. Had some torrential rain last night. Cloudy and breezy this morning but suns coming out now.
  19. Crap day again, 17°C, damp, overcast. Pretty normal weather here in the good 'ol North West of England so shouldn't really moan but I will anyway cos it's still rubbish!
  20. Another crap day today, max 17 degrees, overcast, very little sun, but at least it stayed mostly dry. But 17 degrees and overcast is very normal for a NW summer so I shouldn't really complain, but I will anyway, because I can.
  21. Average reservoir levels looks fine to me: United Utilities - Reservoir levels WWW.UNITEDUTILITIES.COM Details about the levels of water in our main reservoirs - updated weekly Average to above average in most places.
  22. I get that the rooms would need to be hot to kill viruses, but why the need for the excessive humidity? Sounds like the conditions you’d expect in a sauna. For someone who hates heat so much, I think you’re working in the wrong profession! You’d be better off working in Iceland! It’s always freezing in there!
