  1. Gosh! I don't know how you cope! I really feel for you! I'm surprised such working conditions are even legal. The heat index must have been in the 50's! Do they deliberately heat the rooms to such dangerously high temperatures or is it just natural? It's just been pleasantly warm here today - mostly cloudy and around 24C. Bit humid but I'm not complaining. I remember I went to Blackpool on the hottest day on record last year and that was really hot.
  2. Yeah same here. I woke up early to go to the bathroom this morning and it was partly cloudy then, the sun was just rising but by the time I had got up properly it was cloudy. Then very cloudy until about 5 pm today when the sun came out for a longer period. Yesterday was very cloudy as well and warm with a high of around 22C. Today has reached 24C here according to the iPhone Weather App (no weather station at the moment!) But at least it has been warm and dry which is the main thing and it's been a damn sight better than what this summer has given us so far - except for a few warm and thundery days in mid June and the heatwave at the end of June. I'm also glad that we are not enduring the intense heat down in the south east - while it's been less humid down there it's been much much hotter with temps in the mid 30's. Mid 20's is much more comfortable even with fairly high humidity. Currently 23C with 77% humidity.
  3. It has become increasingly warm over the last few days here but it's also been very cloudy. It's been that typical warm, cloudy, humid type weather, with strong winds and a fresh feel on Tuesday with some dampness at times but it has become increasingly less damp, less breezy and warmer since then. However it's been nowhere near as hot as it's been down in the south east, just wish I had a bit more sunshine. Today was forecast for "sunny intervals" but it's been very cloudy all day with just a little bit of late afternoon sunshine. But at least it's warm and dry and very pleasant usable weather - something that has been lacking here so far this summer.
  4. It is a well known trait of the British that we love to moan about anything and everything!
  5. I found out the hard way that if you don't you end up with bugs in your room. I'd rather deal with the heat than a dozen or so moths and a mosquito... My house is nearly always cool though anyway, even on Friday it only reached 24C in the bedroom, but I live in an old bungalow which might be why.
  6. Well as bad as this summer has been, I'd much rather have 22C than 36C! At least 22C is comfortable and you can actually do things without collapsing lol. I'm sure many Londoners would agree.
  7. Or melatonin. I take one capsule before bedtime and it makes it easier/quicker to get off to sleep. You can only buy it online though as it’s not made in this country for some reason. Ive not heard of zopliclone, I shall have to look into that.
  8. Gosh. You’re the biggest hater of heat I’ve ever met, doing what is probably the worst job ever if you hate heat, working in the hottest part of the country when we are having a heatwave! Couldn’t make it up could you?! 40°C with 100% humidity must be completely unbearable and even unliveable/dangerous for humans, as we cannot sweat properly when the humidity is at 100% and our body temp is only around 37°C, so you would die of heat exhaustion pretty quickly I would imagine. The heat index must be well over 50°C. I’ll be praying for you this week.
  9. Tell your boss to do one and become a postman. Those guys are always in shorts.
  10. WoW. It looks like someone decided to build a city in the middle of the Sahara dessert lol. It’s amazing how different the climate is between Northwest and Southeast England. If you go up to the Lake District there is lakes everywhere and everywhere is waterlogged and muddy.
  11. If that is normal summer grass in London then I’d hate to see what 2018 grass looked like! It seems like the south east is turning into some kind of desert climate! Parched grass is very rare here in the NW, the last time that happened here was in July 2018. Everything is always lush and green up here because of all the rain lol.
  12. Lovely sunshine this morning but really chilly. Had a shower this morning, now mostly cloudy and breezy. Typical polar maritime stuff.
  13. Yes it is strange that. In the past the highest temperatures used to occur in the hottest summers like 1990 and 2003.
  14. Clouded over during the afternoon and felt very warm and muggy earlier. Had a few spots of rain and feels a bit cooler and fresher outside now.
  15. I recorded 33C last July so I wasn't far off then!
  16. Overcast here now with a few spots of light rain. Felt very muggy outside earlier after it clouded over but feeling a bit fresher outside now.
  17. WoW looks like something you'd see in The Eden Project! (which I have visited btw). Does the wirral have a similar climate to SW England? ie very mild in winter, cool in summer, rarely get frost or snow? Come to think of it, I've seen the odd palm tree in peoples gardens round here but they are probably the hardy type that can withstand cold as even in the mildest winters we still get a little bit of frost and snow.
  18. Not really I find BBC weather to be more accurate. It's the same service used by the iPhone weather app which is okay as a guide but it's not great at forecasting.
  19. High cloud starting to appear here. Breeze picking up too. Hopefully I will get a good storm today.
  20. Stonyhurst in Lancashire is currently 29C at 1 pm. http://www.weathercast.co.uk/world-weather/weather-stations/obsid/99060.html
  21. Stonyhurst in Lancashire is currently 29C at 1 pm. Weather reports from Stonyhurst WMO (99060) WWW.WEATHERCAST.CO.UK A graphical and tabular preparation of weather observations of last week by the WMO weather station from Stonyhurst, United Kingdom (99060). It is updated hourly.
  22. Guess it’s all them palm trees and gorgeous beaches then. They give off a summer vibe and make you feel like you’re in another country. When I think of Devon and Cornwall I think of warm sunny weather.
  23. I really hope we don’t break the all time temperature record again, this month doesn’t deserve it at all. If it does you can bet the global warming brigade will say it’s been a scorching summer despite the fact the last four weeks have been significantly below average.
