Well guys it looks poor/very poor going forward for any cold with longevity. Apart from a short colder snap late this week/weekend the mean average going forward is above normal right up to mid January. There is scatter though so cannot completely discount a different outcome but not likely. I guess we can hope for a 2018 scenario with a cold snowy February & March which would suit me fine. I'll take snow whenever it arrives. Rain returns by the looks of the precipitation chart as well. We need a long dry spell as the ground is still sodden. Anyway I wish you all a happy new year. All the best. Alan.

Yes, 2018's 'Beast from the east '  can put another appearance in for me too. Happy new year.

  2. Morning all.  Dry at the moment, a bit cloudy but I can see blue sky, feeling mild, app temp reading 7°.  Apparently tomorrow we will be in double figures. Had a drinks, cheese and quiz night last night, one of the questions was asking which month in 2018 was Britain covered in a blanket of snow as a result of  'the beast from the east'?.  You are now probably mentally mumbling the answer to yourself.  Been a pleasant Christmas,  and I've no plans yet for New Years eve.  Anybody making any unusual resolutions this year?

Hailstorm in Macclesfield just now. Bits of sleet and snow and all sorts. Very odd. Waiting for the flash of lightning!

Thought we may have had a bit of lightning too, however my app temp hasn't dropped all day, it's still at 4°, but then again I don't know how accurate it is.  It's easing off now, I'm off out xmas present delivering.

Thought I would pop in with a wee post as it is sad to see the tumbleweed blowing through here...even @Summer Sun has given up posting the Convective Weather daily outlook!

Had some torrential downpours and nice cloudscapes over the past week - also Asperitas clouds last month. (Anyone seen them before?)

Now that Summer/thunderstorm season has gone I thought I would look back at my favourite pictures I had taken of convection/thunderstorms from June/July/August - great season up here.

And lastly I wanted to take some pictures after the thunderstorm/convection had cleared - which made for some dramatic scenes/sunsets.

It really was a glorious Summer for warmth, convection/thunderstorms and skies - one I will never forget!

Hopefully next Summer delivers the same (up here) and more thunderstorms for all of us!

    All the best!

    David

Superb photos and what a wonderful place to live.

  5. Thunder and lightning earlier today in the Pennines, its just been mentioned on Granada Reports.  I'm not surprised as mid morning there was huge cumulus continually travelling eastwards from my location, some good insolation too as the ground quickly dried up this morning and I could hear mine and the neighbours upvc frames expanding. Some interesting convective skies earlier looking towards Manchester.

  6. Temp this morning at 5:45 was 3°.  The sky was clear and Orions Belt was bright and clearly visible. To think some of us was still wearing shorts a little over a week ago, this morning I was in need of my gloves.  At the moment the sky is beautifully clear and my tablet app is at 8°.  No doubt this will fall lower before dawn. Lovely nippy autumnal night.

  7. Just got home from dropping daughter off at Manchester Airport.  Anyone remember when it was called Ringway Airport?  Torrential/heavy rain all the way there and no traffic hold ups on the A555 link road at Wilmslow, unlike the end of July when it flooded at Stockport. Tablet app temp is 13°  and rainfall is steady at the moment.
