You would think there would be a number of days with temps around 21C!

Update: I think I can safely say that today is worse than yesterday. I noticed that the humidity rises so quickly within an hour of the sun rising for morning... The heat then begins to build upon itself. Within the first few hours. The heat & humidity has worked together to bring us that unbearable warmth with dry air & no breeze. The fact that this has been staying consistent is irritating... I honestly hope that this is the final heatwave this year. If this happens again in the next month or within September... -_-
[Edit:] Also enjoy your weekend everyone. Because once again the heatwave has waited especially for your days off to make the worst possible. It says that the hottest days will be Saturday & Sunday... -_-
The mornings start of quite humid, in the 80% range, but by lunch time we’re back to normal levels of humidity, then becoming quite dry in the afternoon.
It’s the afternoons I find uncomfortable, dry and airless.
The mornings have been quite pleasant this week up until about midday.

15°C and 95% humidity isn’t exactly taxing…
I have zero problems with 15c

Hope MIA is cool if i include Twitter content featuring snowfalls into Autumn as itl save creating a twitter thread for that season solely
Not to want to be an ass, but we debated this last year and decided on 2 separate threads. I think the amount of twitter posts ends up being a scroll marathon (is that a scrollathon?) and means finding the snow and ice cover content difficult.
Some of us also don’t use Twitter, so it’s unreadable
Edit: to try to be even less of an ass, can we keep it to one Twitter link per day, rather than multiple in one post? Best of both worlds

The best place to live now is in Lerwick, Shetland Islands where the maximum temperature reached 15°C with 95% humidity. In Lerwick they are getting drizzle and fog. Tomorrow Lerwick highest temperature will be 21°C .
95%?! That sounds utterly disgustingly uncomfortable, I’d rather be baking in 35c dry heat than feeling like a warm damp towel all day. Urgh.

Can't believe people are giving up on winter already when we are only just out of summer. This must be a record for the earliest "winter is over" posts yet.
We're discussing the fact winter is over, based on a warm September, IN SEPTEMBER!
Anyway, I think I called winter is over in August, so I'm claiming first spot

It’s not a BS theory at all! There are reputable forecasters out there who support this theory and I would advise to ignore it at your peril!!
Until we get a cold winter following a warm/hot September, I will stand by this!
Oh come on, I cannot for the life of me think of one reputable forecaster that would support this theory. You could equally argue that a cold September would be followed by a cold winter, because there is support for that too.
What's more, as our climate changes, statistical pattern matching becomes even more tenuous than it already was.

Ha I just can't let a cold December go,ever.
Optimum time mid Dec to mid Jan but if I was asked if I would take a snowy 🌨 Xmas week if it meant foregoing Jan I think I would..
For me you just can't beat a snowy Xmas, for many reasons..
Perfect, snowy December would be ideal!

Maybe Don, this will be the year we can put the 'Warm September Mild Winter Enigma' to rest
Let’s hope so, it’s a BS theory. I’m pretty sure the theory was debated years ago and debunked way back then as being unsupported nonsense.

When were you a kid? Just curious.
If you grew up between 1960 and 1986, I can see how this summer would be seen as acceptable.
Or maybe I should say before 1975, as there were very few hot summers before that year and 32c wasn’t a regular thing.
For me it was poor, because I remember always liking warm sunny summers as a child of the 80s. I never enjoyed the chilly summers of 85 and 86. Always felt cold when we were holidaying in the U.K. during those years, but 83, 84 and 89 along with 90, were proper summers in my mind.
I’m glad I wasn’t alive during the 60s. The summers look awful even compared to the 80s.
80s - 90s
In fairness I guess it doesn’t matter, weather records and childhood memories skew our bias somewhat. I have no idea what the actual weather was like then, and would never pretend to know what summer 1975 was like as I wasn’t even alive, and as posted above, stats don’t really paint a picture of reality.
My vote was ‘okay’, for the reasons I mentioned above, a mix of the right things. A poor summer could equally be interpreted by others as one where we’ve had no rainfall, droughts, poor crop harvest etc.
I’m sure some will disagree, but there is no right or wrong, it’s entirely subjective.

Perfectly ok, felt like a normal British summer to me - like when I was kid.
Enough water to keep the plants alive and the grass green, enough sun that I’m not pasty white, and warm enough that I’ve considered wild swimming a number of times.

Didn't get lower than 26c in the bedroom last night, currently 24.5c in my home office as I get ready to start work, managed to get a couple of hours sleep then just gave up!. Still much cooler than the 33c+ that it will be in the office at work today and for that I am thankful, but i'm not seeing the lower indoor temperatures that some thought that September would bring.
27c forecast for here today with wall to wall sun, the same as yesterday. Same old dirge
The Windows were open all night, and the front door has been wide open since I got up at 4.45 but its only cooled the house by about a degree.
I'd rather not think about how bad its going to be with the increased humidity from Wednesday.
14c on Shetland today. Wish we were starting to see those temperatures here!.
Open the windows, your house is an anomaly! It was nearly freezing in some places last night.

Certainly a cooler evening (hence the fog this morning), I slept well last night at least. Not sure I buy the latent heat idea, it’s definitely cooler in the evenings and overnight now than it was in June
-
A bit too hot for me today, and this week looks a bit warm - the saving grace is that at this time of year the night time temps are much much lower, and it feels nice having a cool breeze through the bedroom window.

It worries me because the CFS usually throws out dream charts at such long range...but they are hard to come by at the moment. If the CFS can't even throw out decent runs then maybe we really aren't in a great place lol.

A great start, followed by generally poor, sometimes very poor or just average fayre. July was terrible. August just very lacklustre.
Coming week set to be the most settled since mid June. Pity arriving a week too late to salvage the school holidays. Kick in the teeth.
Good weather is perfectly enjoyable outside of the school holidays

What, the Earth became flat in Essex?

Really, when June was the warmest since 1846? July was average with mild minima cancelling out the cooler maxima whereas August after a wet first week turned out to be quite nice and a little warmer then average overall (1961-90 averages).
A fact is a fact, summer temperature was average, can’t argue with that.
Might as well be standing on the moon claiming that Earth is flat.

Yes I'd sooner not see a November 09 again, shockingly wet, eclipsed only by the infamous Dec 15!
I’d happily take a Nov 09 if it meant a Dec 09, it’s a fair trade isn’t it..?

This summer wasn’t warm. It was below par for sunshine, and wetter than normal.
The average summer temperature is going to be pretty much bang on the average for summer, which is probably best described as warm.
Rainfall was above average and irradiance was below average.

I’d rather a mild and wet winter than a mild and dry winter because you might as well make use of the rainfall to top up reservoirs etc
Great, except our reservoirs are above the average levels for this time of year already. Most are over 80% full, which for end of summer is pretty good.
