    The weather is becoming tyranically predictable now unfortunately. I looked at the latest ecm 10 day run tonight and wished I hadn't. The runs previous to this had us down for a nice autumnal cool start to September - very 80's esq. The latest run however has summer return just as the schools return -  YET AGAIN. This is happening every year now and has been for many years. You don't even have to watch any forecasts. Early September is just a given. The weather is on a loop whether we like it or not. The real question is why?

    Perfect time to take a holiday then, no kids, cheap hotels and nice weather - what’s not to like…??

    Don't be so sure Beanz, I will have swapped my Defender for a Tesla (not my choice work told me to!) by mid September.  Last time I didn't have a Defender/Utility Land Rover was between 2009 and 2011...... Not chart analysis or statistics but just saying 🙂

    I hope your pattern matching works out to be superior to mine then! 😁😉

    Truth be told, I’m obviously hoping for 09/10 redux so I can put the new toy to the test!

    If only last December had been a harbinger of a better winter overall.

    I remember my brother picking me up from work, -8 showing on the car thermometer at 11pm.

    There’s nothing like pre Christmas December cold IMO. If I could pick one month to feature severe cold weather it’d be December every time with its absolute minimal solar input.

    Totally agree, it all adds to the festive build up too - it feels right for pre-Christmas to be cold (and snowy) because that’s what we all believe is traditional.  January cold, unless it’s a foot of snow I’d rather it started to warm up by mid-Jan.

    It won’t happen this year, guarantee it because I swapped my BMW for a Land Rover with winter tyres.

    Enjoyed seeing some dismiss the forecast from Severe Weather Europe despite it being well reasoned and arguably playing out as recently as winter 2015 and possibly 05.

    They are basically saying the main trough will push into Scandinavia and promote a high over south east Europe with the Azores High probably influencing western Europe. But that might suggest a good month where the trough is better placed, especially since the forecast is for a -AO.

    Oh I don’t know, I think most of the comments regarding that have been just as well reasoned.  Whilst I can’t remember them ever accurately forecasting a winter, they’re no different to any other LRF.  It’s just a bit of fun and they’re having a go too.

    Mild and dry

    A first look at the Winter 2023/2024 forecast for the United States, Canada, and Europe shows a strong influence of the growing El Nino event

    I don’t understand how if, as the article suggests, the main circulation is expected to be from the north to the south, this would produce mild and dry for the U.K. surely it would be more likely to be cold and dry?

    Please make this 'summer' go away. I am sick of :

    * The southerly tracked jet stream

    * Grey skies

    * Rain

    * Cool

    * Wind

    * Spiders in my house 2 months early

    * Puddles

    * Weeds persistently growing in my patio

    * Having to wear a coat

    * Putting the supplementary heater on whilst having a cup of tea

    * Low pressure at the weekend

    * Opening the curtains on a Saturday morning to glowering skies pouring rain and wind

    * Places like Vancouver Seattle Anchorage Irkutsk Ulaanbataar having a summer whilst we have an enormous autumn

    * 16c in July

    * 16c in August

    PLEASE MAKE IT END.

    Surely putting a heater on is a little over dramatic, I know the weather has been a bit cruddy but it’s not been cold anywhere in the U.K…

    The weeds and the spiders on the other hand, they can absolutely do one!

    It's now time in my opinion to put summer aside and start thinking about our upcoming season the Autumn? It's no different when it's the middle of February and my thoughts start turning to Spring. I think we can safely put Summer away now ,as there is no settled spell of weather on the horizon, and with another two weeks and a bit,  we will be in Meteorological Autumn. Not to say we can't have nice weather in September ,but by then summer is all done and dusted...

    You’d better start an Autumn chat thread then.  I’ll stick with Summer whilst it’s still here thanks.

    Garden party 12-6 mainly. Should avoid the rain coming much later. Just could do without any of those pointless showers.

    All weather has a point, or doesn’t - showers are no more or less pointless than any other type.  This type means I don’t have to water my garden…so it looks nice for the next garden party…

  9. Noting BW’s post above, and fully respecting that others have differing views/needs etc.

    But, I’ve always considered myself a ‘heat hater’.  Temperatures over 30c and I just struggle to function, I feel tired and heavy, and often found sitting in the car with the AC on (I know, the GW shame).  I have a fairly narrow band of what I’d consider to be, for me, the perfect summer temperature - probably around 22-25c during the day.  I think this summer has been kind so far!

    So it begs the question, what’s your band of perfect operating temperature for summer in the daytime?.

    decided i'd finally make an account on here after lurking for over a year 🙂

    seems like i chose a really poor time to come back to visit the UK (moved to denmark 2 years ago) as someone who really isn't a fan of the heat. some really dreadful charts so far between the period i'm visiting (15th-26th) with some potentially very high dew points along with the high temps.. hoping things go the other way in the next few days as i've been quite content not having to have experienced above 28c this year yet 😬

    You should be fine, looking like about 25/26c towards the end of the week, just about right!

    Well, the snow seems to have arrived, settled, then broken down with a thaw setting in, and now mild air is knocking on the door all in the space of 12 hours. Never used to happen like this 20 years ago.😞

    Mid-March, standard.  Was anybody really expecting it to be any different…??

    This was never going to be more than a case of watching a few flakes fall, enjoy it for a few hours and back to normal the next day.

    Don't think it's negativity its just the rug gets pulled away. Ssw lag effect is well into febuary

    3 days of scattered wintry showers "snow to the north" isn't unusual tbh 🙄

    I hate to be so, how can I put this? ‘realistic’? There was never really much of a chance of anything apart from some very scattered wintry showers.  Not at any point have the models given us any agreement on anything but that.

    No moaning from me

    A chance of snow again Monday to thursday next week

    After hearing alot of depressing posts since the last cold spell saying mild for the rest of January this is looking like a good cold spell approaching 🌨

    Slush is most likely, it’s going to be horrible next week - cold and wet

    Saying there won't be snow cover of significance in the next 7 days suggest you weren't being generic at all more IMBY as set ups like this deliver well down the western spine of the UK which is a rather significant landmass.

    Umm…no, you mentioned Wales, so I’m quite sure the IMBY was your regional specific comment, mine was and still is generic.
