  1. As interesting and noteworthy as this wet spell is, my interest is in what happens next. At some point this spell of wet weather will end, what I'm intrigued by is how long before a similar or even wetter spell appears. Irrespective of one's beliefs regarding climate change and it's causes, many predicted that a warmer atmosphere would result in higher rainfall. With our proximity to the Atlantic and island location I'm really fascinated by potential climatic changes.

With no scientific basis whatsoever I've a hunch that we may have a dry hot summer, I hope I'm wrong about the hot bit as I'm useless once it gets above 18c at night for any length of time, but I've a feeling that we'll have a 'good' summer and then a return to monsoon season from October. Be interesting to see how things pan out.

  2.  Jo Farrow where do you live to be able to do that? Genuinely interested to know and not being deliberately argumentative. Believe me we've had to get a dehumidifier to take away moisture from the home in part due to clothes drying inside.

I've found with myself and other half both working full time, a newborn and the atrocious weather this winter it's just not been practical at all for us to consider drying outside and that's living in the supposedly drier part of the country.

  3. The beast in 2018 delivered 28cm level snow in Ipswich at 120ft asl. Drifts in town were over 60cm with outlying rural areas significantly deeper. Don't recall it being deeper than that since I moved to Suffolk in 2006

  4. Models probably not showing anything conclusive at the moment either way for cold, need to see where we stand in three or four days time after these incoming deep lows pass through IMO.

I've been following the AI Graphcast model a lot recently too and that has been struggling to show anything remotely cold friendly.

Looking back through the archives of snow watch and it appears we're rapidly approaching the cut off date, time to call for the grebes.

    Graphcast for 29th Jan
