A gorgeous day here and quite warm despite the gusty wind.

An unusual scenario for Wednesday into Thursday. Warm air on an Easterly from the Continent meeting cold air from the W/SW. Normally you would expect it to be the other way round, wouldn't you?

Dry and quite bright although signs of it clouding over. Mild despite a very blowy wind.

ChannelThunder Interesting. In 24 hours, we seem to have lost the possibility of any storm activity in the South and SE of England tomorrow and gained a more likely scenario of t & l in the South West and S Wales on Wednesday into Thursday.

CryoraptorA303 do we not need to take account of influences such as the cold North Sea in April and May? Last week, I spent a miserable few days on the N Yorkshire coast and this week it seems that the highest temperatures may be reserved for W and N W Scotland. Correct me if I'm wrong, but surely Coningsby in May would have a very different feel to it weather-wise in May compared with July.

Talk on the Countryfile forecast last night of a front moving up from France into SE and E England tomorrow (Tuesday), with the possibility of some thundery activity.

mike57 I was keeping an eye on the Grosmont station webcam yesterday and was so glad that I'm back in Cheshire. You all have my sympathies.

Turned into a nice day yesterday with plenty of sun and no rain after an uncertain start. Today has dawned bright and breezy but possibility of a few showers later if yesterday's forecast is anything to go by. It does seem to be warming up a bit at last which is good and hopefully this trend will continue.

Cooler on those NE coasts Welcome! I was on the North Yorkshire coast last week and it was dreadful, cold and wet, and muddy and marshy underfoot. I'm told that the weather there today is similar and I'm glad I'm back in Cheshire where it's dry and signs of it brightening up.

After a cloudy, damp start, it is showing signs of it brightening up a bit, with patches of blue sky around. Hopefully we will miss the worst of the weather to our east.

A pity that the abstract was not proof-read before it was published. '1944' rather than '1994'

April 1950 was similar. I was baptised on a baking hot day on 22nd April and this was the scene (S London / Surrey / North Downs) four days later.

My neighbour has just returned from a week in N W Scotland. I have just returned from a similar period on the coast of North Yorkshire. Guess who's sun burnt?!

SunnyG I take your point, but who knows where we would be at today if weather forecasting had not been a priority 80 years ago in early June 1944.

Rush2019 ditto in Crewe. Bright enough start to the day but already clouding over. Hopefully it will stay dry today, but tomorrow, who knows in this part of the Region?! A rarity this afternoon as Crewe Alexandra's match at Colchester is live on Sky. If only I had Sky rather than TNT. Hopefully Crewe will get the point they need to guarantee a playoff spot in L2 and I will be a happy bunny by 5pm!

Stayed mainly dry, bar a few blobs of rain this afternoon. The sun (when it appears) plus the lack of wind means that it feels a lot warmer than it was in North Yorkshire where I was located over the past few days.

I came back from a very cold and blowy North Yorkshire last night. A heavy shower as I came round the south side of Manchester but had cleared by the time I arrived home. A lovely start to today and, unlike North Yorkshire, no cold wind to peg the temperatures later. Fingers crossed for the washing outside.

I seldom say 'I'm glad to be going home' but this was one such occasion. In all my time coming to the NY coast and moors, I've seldom felt so cold and yes, I am well aware of how cold the area can be at this time of the year, given how cold the North Sea is. Yesterday morning, the forecast showers arrived at 8am and, although it brightened up later, the wind was bitingly cold. Back home this morning, it is a beautiful start to the day and no wind to peg the temperatures later on. I'll be back in NY in a couple of weeks.

mike57 Yes, that's what I heard. We had a hail storm on the moors at 9am and it then stayed dry but bitterly cold until 3pm when it unexpectedly rained really hard. The sun came out later and it has actually been a nice evening, with the cold wind dropping right off on the NY coast. Alas, it seems we may be getting showers from a feature from the North Sea early tomorrow which may stick around until late morning. I do not normally say it, but I am actually glad that I shall be heading back to Cheshire later tomorrow.

A bit to my surprise, the sun came out at times during the afternoon, although still interspersed with mainly light showers. The main issue was the beastly wind on the coast which pegged temperatures drastically, with the East Yorkshire coast not getting above 5C today (BBC radio weather forecast). More of the same tomorrow it seems.

The good news is that it's finally stopped raining (for the moment) and started brightening up a bit, the bad news is that there's now a howling and cold N / NE wind on the coast.

What a miserable day on the NY moors. Despite the forecast of rain heading away south late morning, it continued to rain for most of the day and non-too warm either. Still raining on and off until recently. Can we hope for a drier day tomorrow? I certainly hope so. Edit - one thing that has not been a problem today is the wind, but it seems to be blowing up a bit now, which will not be a bad thing if it blows the main area of rain away..

Back on the NY moors and coast until Thursday. A pleasant enough afternoon, a bit of sunshine, cool despite the lack of wind, but dry which was welcome. Not sure it's going to last that way with rain forecast for tomorrow to move down from the North. Not sure how much we shall see near the coast, hopefully not a lot!

Brightening up here after a cold, cloudy start with spots of rain around. Off to the East coast later and not expecting any brightness there.
