  1. Turned out to be a fairly decent day on the Moors and at Whitby. Some bright sun, some cloud and I thought at one stage we were going to get a shower or storm but nothing came of it. I was told that away from the coast, the Moors and area around Pickering were very foggy early but even that cleared up later. More of the same tomorrow please so that families on their Easter holidays can continue to enjoy themselves in the area.
  2. My brother said that they had a thunderstorm at Purley in S London this afternoon. No further details.
  3. Back in North Yorkshire for the first time this year and it rained all the way to Leeds which was a nuisance on the motorways. Rain had stopped by the time I arrived on the coast and has stayed dry but mainly cloudy since. Terribly wet and muddy underfoot and streams running down to the coast are all full, obviously reflecting the weather of the past few weeks. I was taken back to Easter Monday, 1st April 2018, which was very wet in the Region but was followed by a sunny day on the 2nd until early evening when we had a memorable and quite frightening 45 minute thunderstorm near Whitby. I wonder whether we might get a repeat in 2024.
  4. Heading across the border to North Yorkshire today and it rained all the way to Leeds. Wet drizzly stuff rather than heavy but a nuisance nevertheless and it slowed the traffic on the M6 and M62 quite badly..
  5. BBC Countryfile forecast for the week ahead had just about everything in it except warm sunshine. Rain tomorrow, showers or longer spells of rain interspersed with some sunny periods after that until the weekend and then potentially wet and windy at the weekend but warming up, although you probably won't notice it. Not good in other words for the start of the Easter holidays for kids and their families.
  6. iand61 agreed, I thought we were going to get a mainly dry Easter Monday but now it appears not. Maybe the weather people were referring to Scotland when they referred to the 'North staying dry', although I wouldn't class our Region as 'Southern parts' by any stretch of the imagination! A second dry day today although more cloud than yesterday. 2 out of 4 reasonable days over a March Easter is probably as good as it gets and is certainly better than Easter Sundays in1975 (30th) and 2008 (23rd).
  7. ... and here! Lovely start to Easter Saturday and the last day of GMT for 6 months.
  8. Still showering down with rain a short while ago but signs of it clearing up as night falls and the prospect of a better day tomorrow, the last under GMT for 6 months.
  9. An OK day here so far. One heavy shower but otherwise dry and quite sunny and not particularly chilly in the sun , despite a brisk wind.
  10. A dry, even bright start but dark clouds already building up and expecting showers soon. In fact, as I post, I think the first shower has arrived!
  11. Cheshire Freeze fully agree, the ground is still saturated from last night's rain here in Crewe and I don't think it was particularly heavy. Pools of water on our patio which are showing no signs of going away. One small sign of hope, the barometer seems to have bottomed out from a low below 29.0
  12. Rain Lady black clouds we have a-plenty here in S Cheshire, but surprisingly, there has been little rain so far during daylight hours. However, the wind has got up and the barometer is still very low, and we are clearly not out of the woods just yet.
  13. I opened the curtains half expecting to see some of the white stuff. Instead, we have blue skies and sun although evidence of heavy rainfall last night on the ground.
  14. cheshire snow Yes, I must have seen the same forecast which looked interesting for tomorrow morning. I'm not sure that we're going to be affected by snow here in Crewe but areas around Chester and the hills around the city may certainly see a fall before it washes away with milder air taking its place. I shall peep through the net curtains with renewed interest tomorrow morning!.
  15. cheshire snow oh s**t. Strange afternoon, lunchtime heavy shower, then dry and bright, now wet and wild.
  16. tricol yes, we had that heavy shower as well. I wondered whether it was a front moving through because the weather cleared up immediatly after.
  17. Wind has picked up and turned very gloomy with rain in the offing. Barometer below 29.0 and only going one way. Oh joy!
  18. Yellow weather warning for wind for tomorrow just issued for London, the SE and SW of England. A rain warning for Northern Ireland already in place for today. The Easter get-aways could be tricky!
  19. A dry and bright morning so far but cloud starting to build up and wind picking up. Must have rained heavily or continuously during the night as the local green and other 'hot-spots' are waterlogged again.
  20. Yes, I was expecting some showers this afternoon but it has remained dry throughout the day. I'm not sure we're going to be so lucky tomorrow. Barometer is very much on the down into the dark side, if you see what I mean.
  21. Two memorable Easters but for the wrong reasons: 1975 - a cold snowy end-of-March Easter. On Easter Sunday evening - 30th March - our Vicar was just finishing his final sermon at our church in S London / Surrey, with the snow falling afresh outside. Suddenly there was a brilliant flash of lightning followed by a crash of thunder and all the lights went out. I don't know whether we wanted to laugh or get on our knees and pray in the darkness for forgiveness, but it sure was a memorable and much-talked about way for a priest to end his Church ministry. 2008 - Easter was about the earliest it could be and was similarly cold and snowy. On Easter Saturday, my friend and I were watching our team play at Sheffield Wednesday. With 10-15 minutes to go, the snow started to come down in great dollops. As the game moved into added time, my team was losing 1-2 and attacking at the far end away from us. Then, a distant roar or groan, but what had happened? Our team had equalised unbeknown to us at our end because of the driving snow. Our roar of approval must have followed some moments later as the players came celebrating towards the centre circle. Sensibly the referee ended the game immediately after with the score 2-2 and we were left to trudge through the snow towards Sheffield city centre and the station.
  22. Yes, a dry calm morning, but with the prospect of showers or a longer period of rain later.
  23. More rain and heavy showers to come until Friday it seems, but with signs of it drying and brightening up for the Easter weekend. I hope so anyway!
