Turned out to be a fairly decent day on the Moors and at Whitby. Some bright sun, some cloud and I thought at one stage we were going to get a shower or storm but nothing came of it. I was told that away from the coast, the Moors and area around Pickering were very foggy early but even that cleared up later. More of the same tomorrow please so that families on their Easter holidays can continue to enjoy themselves in the area.

Storms and Convective discussion - April 2024
A Face like Thunder replied to Supacell's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
My brother said that they had a thunderstorm at Purley in S London this afternoon. No further details. -
Back in North Yorkshire for the first time this year and it rained all the way to Leeds which was a nuisance on the motorways. Rain had stopped by the time I arrived on the coast and has stayed dry but mainly cloudy since. Terribly wet and muddy underfoot and streams running down to the coast are all full, obviously reflecting the weather of the past few weeks. I was taken back to Easter Monday, 1st April 2018, which was very wet in the Region but was followed by a sunny day on the 2nd until early evening when we had a memorable and quite frightening 45 minute thunderstorm near Whitby. I wonder whether we might get a repeat in 2024.

BBC Countryfile forecast for the week ahead had just about everything in it except warm sunshine. Rain tomorrow, showers or longer spells of rain interspersed with some sunny periods after that until the weekend and then potentially wet and windy at the weekend but warming up, although you probably won't notice it. Not good in other words for the start of the Easter holidays for kids and their families.

iand61 agreed, I thought we were going to get a mainly dry Easter Monday but now it appears not. Maybe the weather people were referring to Scotland when they referred to the 'North staying dry', although I wouldn't class our Region as 'Southern parts' by any stretch of the imagination! A second dry day today although more cloud than yesterday. 2 out of 4 reasonable days over a March Easter is probably as good as it gets and is certainly better than Easter Sundays in1975 (30th) and 2008 (23rd).

cheshire snow Yes, I must have seen the same forecast which looked interesting for tomorrow morning. I'm not sure that we're going to be affected by snow here in Crewe but areas around Chester and the hills around the city may certainly see a fall before it washes away with milder air taking its place. I shall peep through the net curtains with renewed interest tomorrow morning!.

Favourite Easter weather memories
A Face like Thunder replied to damianslaw's topic in Historic Weather
Two memorable Easters but for the wrong reasons: 1975 - a cold snowy end-of-March Easter. On Easter Sunday evening - 30th March - our Vicar was just finishing his final sermon at our church in S London / Surrey, with the snow falling afresh outside. Suddenly there was a brilliant flash of lightning followed by a crash of thunder and all the lights went out. I don't know whether we wanted to laugh or get on our knees and pray in the darkness for forgiveness, but it sure was a memorable and much-talked about way for a priest to end his Church ministry. 2008 - Easter was about the earliest it could be and was similarly cold and snowy. On Easter Saturday, my friend and I were watching our team play at Sheffield Wednesday. With 10-15 minutes to go, the snow started to come down in great dollops. As the game moved into added time, my team was losing 1-2 and attacking at the far end away from us. Then, a distant roar or groan, but what had happened? Our team had equalised unbeknown to us at our end because of the driving snow. Our roar of approval must have followed some moments later as the players came celebrating towards the centre circle. Sensibly the referee ended the game immediately after with the score 2-2 and we were left to trudge through the snow towards Sheffield city centre and the station.
