  1. A damp gloomy start to the day but 1-2 signs of it brightening up, although I'm not holding my breath on the sun coming out.
  2. Mrs FLT got soaked by a sudden and heavy shower whilst on a trip out near St Helen's today. Back in Crewe, we've had drizzle all afternoon, not heavy but a real nuisance and so dark and gloomy as well.
  3. Chris.R I should have guessed. It has been raining here over the last hour. Nuisance rain rather than anything more substantial but rain nevertheless.
  4. Yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms have quietly disappeared. Our friends in Yorkshire & Humberside are reporting rumbles of thunder off the East coast. And folk in London & the South East on the Storms thread are still catching up on their sleep after Wednesday night. In other words, not a lot is happening at the moment. Am I being premature in suggesting that nothing much will happen for the rest of the day?
  5. Dry, cloudy and very still at the moment. Not sure about the forecast rain but certainly nothing here yet.
  6. 23C at Southport today, but tomorrow, oh dear, heavy thundery rain from the off, particularly around Manchester and the Pennines area, and none-too-warm either.
  7. Cheshire Freeze certainly doesn't look like it at the moment, with the sun out and feeling pleasantly warm in a gentle breeze. However, I had the same thought yesterday and we ended up with a heavy shower late afternoon, so we may not be completely out of it yet.
  8. My dad had a bird's eye view of the 1927 total eclipse and remembered seeing the shadow coming towards him on the beach near Redcar in North Yorkshire just after 6am on a previously sunny and cloudless morning.
  9. A heavy shower at the end of a generally pleasant day yesterday. There seems to have been a bit of rain overnight, judging by our garden furniture, but a dry, bright start to the day and quite warm again, with little or no wind to speak of.
  10. Chris.R rain has been forecast for the South of the Region for tomorrow but not thunder and lightning as far as I know.
  11. Philip Eden reported this as a 'poor summer with frequent flooding', particularly between 6th and 14th July. Brazell (London values) had 8 out of the last 9 months with below average temperatures, 8 out of 12 months with higher than average rainfall and 8 out of 12 months with below average sunshine levels. And of course the year ended with the Boxing Day blizzard, affecting a wide area of England and Wales, so yes, a truly memorable year, but for all the wrong reasons.
  12. A dry bright start to the day but with quite dark clouds around. Wind has dropped right off and a warmer day in prospect as a result.
  13. Eagle Eye that's near enough the area most likely to be affected by t & l, as shown by Tomasz S on tonight's BBC1 weather forecast.
  14. An unusual scenario for Wednesday into Thursday. Warm air on an Easterly from the Continent meeting cold air from the W/SW. Normally you would expect it to be the other way round, wouldn't you?
  15. Dry and quite bright although signs of it clouding over. Mild despite a very blowy wind.
  16. ChannelThunder Interesting. In 24 hours, we seem to have lost the possibility of any storm activity in the South and SE of England tomorrow and gained a more likely scenario of t & l in the South West and S Wales on Wednesday into Thursday.
  17. CryoraptorA303 do we not need to take account of influences such as the cold North Sea in April and May? Last week, I spent a miserable few days on the N Yorkshire coast and this week it seems that the highest temperatures may be reserved for W and N W Scotland. Correct me if I'm wrong, but surely Coningsby in May would have a very different feel to it weather-wise in May compared with July.
  18. Talk on the Countryfile forecast last night of a front moving up from France into SE and E England tomorrow (Tuesday), with the possibility of some thundery activity.
  19. mike57 I was keeping an eye on the Grosmont station webcam yesterday and was so glad that I'm back in Cheshire. You all have my sympathies.
  20. Turned into a nice day yesterday with plenty of sun and no rain after an uncertain start. Today has dawned bright and breezy but possibility of a few showers later if yesterday's forecast is anything to go by. It does seem to be warming up a bit at last which is good and hopefully this trend will continue.
  21. Cooler on those NE coasts Welcome! I was on the North Yorkshire coast last week and it was dreadful, cold and wet, and muddy and marshy underfoot. I'm told that the weather there today is similar and I'm glad I'm back in Cheshire where it's dry and signs of it brightening up.
  22. After a cloudy, damp start, it is showing signs of it brightening up a bit, with patches of blue sky around. Hopefully we will miss the worst of the weather to our east.
  23. A pity that the abstract was not proof-read before it was published. '1944' rather than '1994'
