  1. I would not know that unfortunatly, but I am sure there is a reasonable explanation. If you really wanted to know, the best thing would be to email the Met Office? Also, I think I remember reading somewhere that in the earliest days of the CET, temperature readings were taken indoors because it was too cold to go outside. If that is true (a very big if, I know), then that would be a much bigger problem than the changes over the last 5 years.
  2. Am I going to get in to trouble for posting this in the wrong sub-forum? I meant to post it in "Historic Weather". Sorry.
  3. I am not an activist, I have never been to a protest in my life. Anyone is entitled to thier views on AGW, but what is bullshit is the idea that the only reason the CET data has been changed is that it is part of a big conspiracy, which is what BFTP was suggesting. It is an insult to the hard working people at the Met Office.
  4. I cannot remember that much about the weather from this summer, but can remember the Australians destroying us in the ashes. The only test we won (4th test?) was when a whole day was washed out, and we had to score over 300 runs to win. That was one of the best run chases I have ever seen.
  5. Posted this in the wrong thread. Could someone please move this to "Historic Weather". My mistake, sorry.
  6. With a CET of 14.17 this mast have been awful. Even the summers from 85-88 are not as bad as that. Does anyone on this forum have any memories of that summer?
  7. The BBC got the forecast wrong today. The forecast was for 22 degrees and sunny weather when I checked the BBC website this morning. The Met Office forecast was much more accurate. I was in London today and you could tell that a lot of people must have been caught out by the BBC forecast. I lot of people in shorts and T shirts not expecting the rain .
  8. Do you really think that the updated CET record is part of a conspiracy to support climate change? There is more than enough evidence in the legacy version of the CET to show that Britian is getting warmer.
  9. If you are caught out in a lightning storm and a flash of lightning goes off just a few metres away from you, could the sound of thunder be loud enough to burst your eardrums? i think it could be possbile because thunderstorms make me jump, even if it is quite a distance away. Thunderstorms can be exciting, but I would prefer not to be out in the open when one happens.
  10. What is the record for consecutive months above average? A below average month will happen at some point, so could this mean a below average summer could be on the cards?
  11. Do you think this summer will be as bad as the awful mid 80s summers (85-88)? We are overdue a really bad one.
  12. Was 2011 a better summer than 2012? 2012 at least had a good August. 2011 was awful.
  13. If you don't trust the CET, then what data do you trust? I bet you was not saying this in April and May when we had below average temperatures.
  14. Do you think that La Nina and low solar activity have been responsible (or at least a contributing factor) for the below average temperatures of the past 8 weeks?
  15. What things are taken into consideration when the CET is adjusted downwards a the end of every month? I read somewhere else that a 0.2 adjustment is made becuase of UHI.
  16. I know that aerosols are considered to be bad for the environment, but as they have a colling effect, could they be used to slow down global warming? If the various clean air acts had not been passed, would the planet be cooler today?
