Are we expecting any more random cells to pop up?
-
Can see distant flickering in the anvil of the Sheffield cell to the north east, so annoying how it intensified as it moved away
-
I was getting too excited, the Welsh storm has took a direct right turn which has officially put out of the game. What's worse is we now have another system that has just developed North East of us which will also move away as intensifies. I'm fed up now.

It looks like now it's heading too far east after starting northerly which will mean it will miss us completely
-
Very amusing seeing us in the North West hanging all out hopes on this storm maintaining it's track and intensity, its looking good so far though

We couldn’t be further from a Thunderstorm here in the East Midlands!!.
It does seem to be tracking more east now....?

Too far west for us I think
Yep, might be worth a distant light show at least though

Thunder frequency has declined in many parts of the UK, starting in the 1970s/1980s, particularly the south-east. There have been some exceptions to this in the north, e.g. there's been an increase around Newcastle since around 2005, but averaged nationally the trend has been downward. There's been a fair amount of research done on it. Most of the evidence points towards changes in the frequency of synoptic patterns that are favourable for thunderstorms, rather than the warming climate (if anything, all other things being equal, warmer temperatures might be expected to produce more thunderstorms).
Thank you, that's very helpful

I’ve no idea but @carinthianwill tell you that Welsh Marches up into Cheshire used to be a very reliable storm corridor
Fair enough, I've only lived up here for 7 years so not sure about before then

I don’t think it’s to do with geography.
I remember many times in my younger days where storms would fester in the Welsh Marches then push NNE into the Cheshire plain.
What do you could be the cause of the trend in less storms up here?

I do it too mate, don't worry. It is annoying seeing the likes of Lincolnshire and the North East get constant batterings lol

Exactly the same here - came from the east in August 2020.
At least you get forecast storms! You might as well chop the south of the U.K. off in summer
True, but I'd actually prefer not to get them forecasted because I want have to cancel plans for nothing. I understand that the forecasters aren't aware of the geography around here which seems to hinder storm activity

I wonder if congleton suffers from the same geographical phenomenon as Andover. I feel your pain brother
I think we have had one direct storm in over 3 years and that came from the east which is quite rare in the UK lol.
It's odd that your location hasn't had any luck too, you'd assume you'd be the first to get any French imports but they tend to die out these days unless they are Kent clippers lol

I understand your frustration; I'm frustrated with today's outcome as well, but to put this on the forecasters is harsh and, in my opinion, wrong.
It was a really tricky one to call today with a lack of cross model agreement, even this morning! When you've got that sort of short-term discrepancy, it's much harder for the pros to nail the specifics hence the wide warning area. Just because you or I didn't cop a storm doesn't prove there's incompetence there, just that our weather is sometimes very fickle and unpredictable!
Have a good evening
I understand but it just happens too often for this area. The amount of times I've had to rearrange plans because of impending forecasts of heavy rain or storms and it never happens. Its OK though.

Another day of a forecast for this area being SO wrong. Very frustrating when you cancel plans because you rely on the forecast of incompetent people who claim to know about weather. This happens every bloody time. How many more times are they going to put us in the severe weather warning area and it turns out to be the very opposite, a glorious day? I understand its only a 'risk' of storms, but they can't be wrong this often. Just don't put us in a,warning area, if anything happens fine but I'd rather that then be led to believe something that never happens. *sigh*

Over 12,000 strikes recorded today so far.....and we have had a grand total of 0 here, despite being a severe warning area for dangerous lightning, heavy hail, torrential rain. I know we have a storm shield built over us but today takes the biscuit. Pretty much a copy and paste job, enjoy your multiple rounds of storms the areas hogging them.
I'm not bitter in the slightest

And why mot?
Some areas havnt had any storms for 3 years yet some are having 3 in one day and that's not enough for some people lol

I love how the areas that usually hog the storms are asking for more

Not convinced it's all done to be honest.
Radar seems to be clearing directly south of us, unless anything else is due to develop but looks like all the juiciest stuff is east

Very disappointing day up here yet AGAIN. Whenever we get these warnings of severe weather and thunderstorms the best we actually get is a few minutes of convective rain. Happens every bloody time.
Still stupidly humid and sticky here.

Despite being in the severe warning area....nothing here but a bit of messy rain. Think that's it for today. All the proper stuff is miles away.
-
Still nothing here. We are in the 60% severe warning area. That usually means it's gunna be a glorious sunny day. Can't see that changing with everything to the north and east of us as I predicted yesterday after having everything yesterday to the south and west.
