  1. Think every sane person is noticing the amount of rain and lack of sun now!
  2. Largest hail on record for the UK in the month of March it seems today!
  3. Well the hail finally got me! Surprised I couldn't hear thunder given how heavy it was. Didn't see any mammatus once it passed either, (I think Coventry is immune to mammatus at this rate ) but looks like others caught it from further north / west of here. YouCut_20240328_182933867.mp4 Some CG's around Leighton Buzzard from that line of storms:
  4. Looking east to that storm / possible supercell near Northampton about half an hour ago: Another shower passing here at the moment which looked very dark ahead of it. Jack got the best capture of the lightning and thunderclap which went through Coventry then Nuneaton:
  5. Best I managed Captured the backend of the cell here: Second March in a row now with a thunderstorm here which is decent going after none between March 2015-2022! YouCut_20240328_160548747~3.mp4 20240328_153626~4.mp4
  6. Shotgun thunder a few minutes ago, was getting ready to record when it happened. Edit: Another one but quieter just now Looks like it missed me by a mile, no hail here.
  7. Decently sized hail earlier just east of Plymouth. Quite strong updraughts and wind shear in some of those intense thunderstorms, and over 100 3CAPE ahead of the storms on an AROME sounding forecast in the area.
  8. The power of evaporative cooling in a very deep low pressure system!
  9. Not true. Turning drier for most central and southern parts.
  10. Trevor Harley's summary of that month: A chart for that month:
  11. Probably closer to hail here but superb capture whoever caught it!
  12. Showers east / north east of here lit up nicely by the sunset. The storms in Dorset look quite interesting but not expecting them to reach here.
  13. No hail here but some awesome cloudscapes later this afternoon as those showers arrived through the city with all photos posted in the convective thread:
  14. No hail here but some lovely cloudscapes once again this afternoon, with a brief vibrant rainbow as the showers zoomed past. Distant shower: New showers approaching from west / south west, I think the second photo is facing more north though, part of that shower line still: Then the back end of those newer showers:
  15. It will either be a part of 2 seasons, May - July as mentioned above or the autumn itself. Been too long since a dry autumn and especially October. Not expecting dryness on the level of autumn 1978, 2007 or 2011, but it's got to be a drier one this year surely.
  16. GFS pretty spot on from last week with that very deep low which sets itself up in the next 24 hours around Ireland!
  17. I went for April 10th guess as the first 20C of the year, but even that might be too early! 2 weeks left until that date and not much signs of it yet.
  18. Always good when forecasts are wrong and instead ends up being sunnier than forecast as it was the case earlier but has clouded over now. Rain coming back this afternoon unfortunately.
  19. Anomaly of 1.5 if the month finishes at 8.2C. I think it will be an 8.0C or higher finish now. A very average outlook this week, so not much of a decline or rise expected. Just hoping the EWP doesn't rise too much but 90mm still looking to be breached.
  20. Copying over this thread on here to look back on in the future. Several reports of the "DANA" event 22nd - 24th March in the Canary islands. There was also some thunderstorms in southern Spain last night, though haven't seen many reports of that around. A few more reports: Lightning from a webcam in Tenerife Night lightning A lot of flash flooding also in Tenerife Interesting rotation in a timelapse Tenerife Hail Very close lightning Dried river bed in flood southern Fuerteventura Flash flooding in parts of Gran Canaria Satellite loop of the event. A lot of dust was brought up with the low pressure system, with some very thick haze in parts of northern Morrocco
  21. Merry easter folks p.s @*Stormforce~beka* can add sunday nights to the list too
  22. A snippet from the Met Office snow survey for this month: Chart for the 17th: Met office have done these surveys from 1953 to the start of 90s: Snow Survey of Great Britain | Met Office UA DIGITAL.NMLA.METOFFICE.GOV.UK METDLA/6/1/5
  23. Lovely day for a cycle / walk. Up to 12°C and that nagging wind had virtually died down. Still ever so slightly nippy when the sun goes behind cloud and you're standing still but when moving plenty warm enough. You really have to cherish these days amid a horrid period for sunshine and settled conditions in general of recent. They stand out so much!
  24. Ah I was going to start a thread for this some point next month but beat me to it! I was in the Canarias during the whole heatwave as with majority of parts of Augusts in the last 10 or so years with August 2023 the first August I spent start to finish at home. But with this one my dad stayed back home during this heatwave and though he does like warm and sunny weather he did mention it was getting a bit too much. Can't blame him when houses in the country are designed to store heat, although if nights are particularly warm and it doesn't cool down much indoors I would just camp in the garden! I thought this was a cool comparison, 16th August 2022 versus 19th August 2023 coventry airport:
  25. Seems like most of the rainfall has fallen in central and southern parts of Fuerteventura as the webcam I check regularly in the north has stayed largely dry up to this afternoon. Some photos from Fuerteventura recently: Drone footage of a town in southern Fuerteventura, barranco or dried river bed in full flow: Tuineje, central south Fuerteventura: Morro jable south Fuerteventura:
