They have blizzards in New York......I'm sure 'they say' we get snow 7 - 10 days later?? Just wishful thinking I guess. Utterly miserable here; really can't wait for some warmth now. First lockdown was so much better as we could sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, this weather just makes me bored and tired

Looks like it's going to be positively balmy here tomorrow with a top temp of 14?!? If the sun comes out, you'll find me on the patio

Still really very cold here in Biggin Hill, although the wind is perhaps a little warmer. Just started raining, so that will wash away the remnants of the snow.

It's been much, much colder here today than forecast.....brrrr! Tonight and tomorrow morning look interesting, may well set my alarm so that I can witness, briefly, a winter wonderland, before the rain/thaw/flooding follows! Enjoy any lamp post watching

Hi everyone
Been lurking on this site for probably around 12 years. Used to lurk on TWO. Never post but just wanted to share some pics from Folkestone Warren this evening looking out along the white cliffs of Dover.
Beautiful scenes. Very strange cloud formations from Folkestone to Lympne. A few grains of snow this eve mixed in with some sleet. Really was hoping for more from this latest cold spell but hey you win some you lose some . Let’s hope this potential upcoming SSW can deliver in the right location. It’s certainly beginning to show some trends that look quite exciting for us cold and snow fans. Fingers crossed it will deliver this time!!!!!!
John

Been a very cold day here in the Surrey Hills! Can’t have gotten above freezing as the snow from yesterday still frozen solid all over our garden and cat. I we cold sat indoors at my computer for the first day term and the return online teaching. One real downer of these times is that there’ll never be another School snow day again....
edit... just posted and read that back... it’s not the cat just the car.. predictive text
I was a little concerned for the cat! You're right about the school / college snow days!

Hi Scrat,
Great photos.
Biggin Hill never fails. The Alpe D'huez of my home Borough of Bromley!!
Will never forgot, the time I went on a Snow chase up to your part of the World.
I was living in Anerley at the time, in the extreme N.W. tip of the Borough.
Forecast was for heavy Rain, with Snow likely over higher parts of the South East.
Left home in icy cold rain, by the time I got to Bromley Town Centre, it had turned to Sleet.
Bromley Town Centre is just over 200 Feet, above Sea Level.
Jumped on a Bus to Biggin, got up to the top of Masons Hill and it had turned to heavy Snow.
By the time we got to Keston, it was settling easily.
When I got off the Bus in Biggin High Street, which is around 570 Feet above Sea Level, Snow was 3 inches thick on the pavements. Can't remember the exact Year but probably in the 1990's.
A little while later, got back down to Bromley Town Centre and nothing but cold Rain and wet pavements!!
Thought you might like to see the image, below.
It is of The Queen's Head in the Village of Downe, next door to Biggin Hill.
This photo was taken after the Boxing Day blizzard of 1927.
The photo is from the Kent County Weather Book and reproduced with the kind permission of Co-Author, Ian Currie.
Regards,
Tom.
Thanks Tom! I hope you and yours are well?
Yes, Biggin Hill is normally quite lucky (if you like snow!), although, like others it's been a real let down of late! It is crazy how you can have so much snow in a small area and then a couple of miles down the road nothing! I'm just pleased that we have camera's on mobile phones now, as when at work (in Bromley) they have nothing and say 'how can you be snowed in, we have nothing here', I can come back with evidence.....not that it matters at the moment!
Love the picture of the Queens Head. Think I may purchase this book.
Take care for now.
Sarah

Bit of an eerie day today; birds really active (unlike me, over indulging in cheese, turkey and ham). Tonight's storm really does have the potential to pack a punch, doesn't it? Then, hoping that with our elevation, we may see a little winteriness on Monday. Enjoy your Boxing Day x

I find it fascinating to watch the wildlife when there is a change of weather (for the worst in their case). If we didn't have all this technology, we could definitely rely on the animals. Remember to give them a helping hand when they can't quite find the nuts they buried and now that the berries have run out.
I have the sledge ready and intend to have a 'winter picnic' if this comes off.....need to make some more, fun, snow memories. Photo's will follow (I hope!)
