  1. A few flurries on and off this morning, another incoming by looks of the sky at the back of the house. Not sure I’ll get out to enjoy it however as waiting for DS’s pcr test result to come back after his girlfriend (who’s a vaccinator) got a positive result. Only thing I need to do is head to our still closed office and pick up client work so I can meet VAT deadline on Friday. Currently 2.4c, up from overnight low of -0.3c. DP at -1.5c, higher than the overnight low of -2.5c but down from the high of -0.5c just after 9am.
  2. Currently 9.9c, up from an early hours low of 7.5c. The morning was fairly bright but then we had some drizzle blowing through as we took the dogs for a walk around midday. Now the Aberdeenshire Permagloom has set in once more and pressure has been steadily dropping from 1006.1 at midnight to 997.97 at the minute.
  3. My phone pinged with the weather warning not long ago, must admit it is hard to believe when we’ve got 13.2c and sunshine currently. Heading back to the office on Wednesday could mean an interesting drive over the hill to Stonehaven if the warning remains in place.
  4. Happy New Year to my fellow kilties on the Scottish group - Lang may yer lums reek! Finished 2021 at 6.5c and clearing skies.
  5. If yesterday had occurred in late October/early November I’d have been okay with it but to have 13.7c on Deeside on the penultimate day of the year? The establishment I met friends at to have lunch even had to lower blinds for diners as the low sun, though watery, was blinding them. This mild weather is doing my head in, like the rest of you I am more than ready for proper winter weather. I can see why those in the madhoose get a bit tetchy at this time of year. Currently 5.9c and dry.
  6. Thank you Michael, for your contributions and inspiring many an amateur over the years. Enjoy your well-earned retirement and Merry Christmas to all in the Fish household ??
  7. There was snow in Banchory just around midnight so I’m told by DS, I was out for the count by that time however. Sadly none left when I got up this morning but we have blue skies with the odd cloud blowing over and currently 3.2c, DP -2.2c
  8. Merry Christmas to all in the Scottish group! Currently -0.4c after a high of 4.1c in early hours. Blue skies for a couple of hours before the Haar came down, when it lifted again, the clouds had formed once more. Grass was crispy when I went out to my shed at dusk. Keeping my fingers crossed for a dusting but won’t be holding my breath.
  9. Damp, dreich and just a bit meh…that’s the only way I can sum up today. Maximum of 3.5c, minimum of 2.5c, no wind to speak of, no rain and no blue sky either.
  10. Trying to get my head around all these charts, I’ll get there eventually. To be honest, in my 50+ years, I’ve experienced many more damp Christmases than white ones but white New Years? Now that’s a different story and one I’ll be keenly following once we get through this week.
  11. Dammit, I missed this! Tho I know it won’t count, I’m going to put my guesses below anyway for no reason other than to see how wrong I get it : Min -3c Max +4c Morning Aberdeenshire Permagloom, giving way to a flurry of sna just before dark.
  12. Multiple tornado warnings being fired off on the YT channel I subscribe to, sounds like a potentially scary night for areas involved.
  13. When I went to bed last night, there was a frost on the cars in the street and temperature of -0.6c. Woke up at back of 5 as I was plottin (Doric term for roasting) to find that the temperature had risen gradually until 2.30am then jumped over 3c in the space of just under an hour, coinciding with increased wind speeds. Temperature dropped back slightly but rising aga8n and currently 6.1c. Hope you’re getting your grapes peeled for you Puffy and the oxygen levels return to nearer normal for you soon.
  14. Unbelievable! I don’t know how people and towns begin to recover from Something of this magnitude. I’ve been following the reports and analysis so far and it really puts what my area suffered as a result of Arwen into perspective. Prayers for all affected by this.
  15. After a beautifully red sky sunrise yesterday morning, the day descended into Aberdeenshire Permagloom followed by a howling gale and enough rain to sink Noah. The wind managed to find a way into the house last night while I was on a zoom call which was really off putting! Today is much calmer but still gie dreich.
  16. Went out to a friend’s house at one of the highest parts of our wee town tonight, when I drove there the roads were black, came out two hours later and there was an inch of snow crunching under foot. Temperature currently 1.2c, DP -0.7c.
  17. Glad you’ve finally been restored to the grid but shame about your boiler. Left my friends house just before 10pm and was surprised by how much snow had fallen. It’ll no doubt be an interesting drive to work tomorrow
  18. Parts of Banchory lost water again last night but have it back once more, the Inchmarlo retirement village lost power on Friday night and are still without. What makes it worse for them is that before covid, the residents would have been able to go to the big house for meals etc but to keep the most vulnerable residents in the nursing home safe, that’s not allowed now. Our local gym have been fantastic and since they got their water and power restored have been cooking and delivering hot meals to the residents of the houses. The journey to work in Stonehaven has been an eye opener tho with the number of wooded areas looking like they’ve been clear felled. Still not managed to drive over the Slug road tho as there were still a couple of trees causing problems but they’ve been dealt with today I believe. Thankful for how lucky I’ve been over the course of the last few days compared to many on Deeside however. Weather today is just meh, chilly, damp and dreich.
  19. Evening everyone, sporadic mobile signal, no broadband but faring better than much of Banchory as my water was restored last night and we’ve had power since around 10pm on Friday. As a result of the outages this past couple of days, I’ve decided that the time has come to replace my electric hob with a gas hob so if we end up in a similar situation in the future, at least I’ll have a means of cooking a hot meal. Flurries of snow throughout yesterday and today and it felt bitterly cold last night on my way home from a friend’s house. PWS isn’t transmitting data seeing as the broadband is down however so no idea how cold it got.
  20. Daughter’s boyfriend is one week into a ten week stint on a semi-submersible crane vessel out in the North Sea, hope they’ve moved to calmer waters further west to see out this storm. Definitely wouldn’t fancy being on a rig or supply vessel in this! If he sends any photos, I’ll share them. Our town Christmas festival has been postponed until next weekend to keep everyone safe Just in case it does get bad along the Dee corridor. Temperatures hovered around 5c until 4.30am then started to drop, currently 3.8c, DP 2.0c.
  21. Definitely a much colder and more raw feel outdoors today, my pws is recording a temperature currently of 2.6c and DP of 0c. With the amber warning for wind issued, I think I need to move a couple of things in the garden out of harm’s way when I get back tonight but I’m another who is worried about trees with a whole row of Scot’s Pine along the street right behind my block of houses.
  22. Much colder in NE Scotland today with a raw feel to the air. Hatches are battened down for Arwen’s arrival and hopeful that lamppost watch will begin tomorrow night!
  23. From the 1.whatever I reported early this morning, the temperature dropped further to 0.5c at 8.30am before beginning to climb to the heady heights of 5.9c at 1.30 before beginning a slow slide downwards again. Currently -0.1c with a DP of -1.0c, first time it’s gone below zero this early in the evening this autumn. thought I might have seen gritters out on the way home from work tonight but nothing so far and they certainly hadn’t been out on the Slug road this morning. That’ll probably change as we head towards the weekend.
  24. Yet more fantastic sunsets the last couple of days, 1st photo from Bathgate area on Sunday , 2nd is from Stonehaven yesterday afternoon. Now looking forward to whatever this weekend holds for us, at least I can see the lamppost easily from my seat in the lounge. In other news, temperature currently 1.1c having fallen steadily from 6.7c at midnight, no wind to speak of either.
  25. Newbie to SACRA, can I have a number please? I’m normally found in the Scottish group after being a long time lurker to the forums. Hoping for the snow gods to be just as good if not better to us in NE Scotland as they were last winter
